Thanks for this review! I have a Roger On, and I've found it life-changing, but now I know how to do more with it than before. BTW, the VA provided the Roger On at no cost to me after my audiologist wrote up a recommendation for me.

Great review. You didn't mention that the best feature of the Roger system is the adaptive gain! Research has shown listening to noise to be significantly better with Roger mics than other non-adaptive mic because it maintains an ideal signal to noise ratio.

So adding this to the updated hearing aids you would need to max utilization, we're looking at about $10K in cost. I love my hearing aids, and I splurged and have a previous gen Roger On that my CHAS is going to help me setup. These prices are insane!

Non-hearing aid user here, yet. As with so many of the Dr Cliff break-downs and reviews, he is well researched and versed on each topic and product capabilities. This video is no exception as this product has a lot of features and functionality (yea I had to watch it a couple of times). I believe this video will help me be a more informed customer/user upon deciding on my hearing aid of choice. Very nice job on a dynamic product! Side note: while listening to this vid, I wondered if there was a 'functionality range or distance' involved. It was only MOMENTS later when Dr Cliff covered that aspect as well, very nice! What made me think of the range/distance aspect, was a scene from the Naked Gun. [I'll let myself out].

I was going to really exaggerate and say yeah what does it cost $2000! And then I found yeah that’s actually what it costs… my biggest issue with Phonak is they should already have this tech already built into the hearing aids, but they rather sell accessories to get another $2000 out of people.

I bought the first Roger to be used in meetings. Total out of pocket was $4000 for Roger + small attachment on the streamer. I did get one Discount for the attachment. Never workedvery well. I still have it but technology has moved on. Streamers are no longer used with the new aids.

Thank you for the review of the new Roger On V3. I have so much love for Roger devices. They have made a considerable difference in certain listening situations. I have a couple of different Roger devices and find them so useful in meetings and doctor appointments. I have the Roger On IN v2 and a few other Roger devices and didn’t realize all the different functions these devices have. I probably do not have the manual skills to connect it to the television because i just am not technologically savvy and do not always even attempt new technology. I also have not had my devices for a long time and have had only a few situations to test them out. I am using them with Phonak Lumity devices and occasionally (once)with my backup Phonak Paradise . My Roger On In V2 was set up by my excellent Hearing Up audiologist, Scot Frink and every time I use the Roger microphone, i am impressed as to how much clearer voices sound. I guess i will have to study up on the functions of my Roger microphone and see how many new situations I can use this wonderful device . It is great to know that Phonak is continuing to develop new technology and having an excellent audiologist like Scot Frink, that i will always be able to hear my best in all listening situations.

Great video. I am wearing a set of Infinio Spheres fitted by an audiologist in your network shortly after they were introduced at the end of summer. I purchased a Roger On 3 to use for streaming from various sources, and it performs perfectly except for one function. That function is streaming audio from a portable audio device (radio, iPad, CD player, etc.). My audiologist was assured by Phonak's training people that the Roger 3 would do this if I purchased a cable with a 3.5 mm audio jack. So far I have tried two such cables without success, and the training specialist is going to provide me with a third. My question is: Did Phonak design change this function out of the Roger 3 since it was present in the earlier Rogers? If so, they have done a very poor job of communicating with their USA-based customer assistance personnel.

I haven't tried to use a 3.5mm to USB-C but I'm afraid that 3.5mm tech is becoming ancient. Roughly equivalent of still using a cassette tape still. 😬

Hi Cliff, thanks for always making great videos! Quick question for you, I have the Phonak Sphere 90s, which have been amazing in pretty much every situation I throw at them. For someone that is getting a huge benefit from these with the Spheric mode, do the Roger mics really add anything on top of this? I could see the use case of a conference room with really quiet talkers but will this perform any better in those situations than a well set up sphere? Thanks and thanks for being a great resource!

There is a rumour that Phonak will include some of the Deep Neural Network functionality in a new Roger On device. This would help in removing background noise in a noisy restaurant type of environment. That would be a useful added capability given the directional microphones that are automatically selected. Question for a bunch of us: Why should we upgrade from version 2 to version 3?

Hi Dr. Cliff, Thanks for another great video. I have single-sided hearing loss. Would it be OK to buy & use the new Roger On 3 transmitting to a HA (e.g. Infinio Sphere) in normal hearing ear, INSTEAD of a Phonak CROS transmitter. Think they are about similar prices; and speech-in-noise situations are generally easy to anticipate in advance, so don't need the devices connected 24/7. If [Not Advisable], what is the difference between how the CROS transmitter vs Roger On 3 functions in noisy situations? Additionally, if already have CROS set-up, and then add Roger On 3, do the CROS Transmitter mic sound transfer signals become obsolete in noisy situations, and prioritize stream Roger3 mic signals only? Thank you.

Bet my other shirt. While I won’t get my Speech in Noise testing until Dec 2024 I bet testing will show I can best the new Roger ON 3 in noisy environments and match it elsewhere with an Apple AirPod 2 ANC, even with my older P90 aids. I have the newer Phonak I90 Sphere, a Roger Pen and a Roger ON2. They all work very well in low or no noise environments. But we know noise should never enter the ear canal and AI or ANC seem to be the best options for eliminating that. I suggest trying the new AirPod 4 ANC (not the AirPod 2 Pro) for about $180 over your existing devices. It is an open fit and does not interfere with existing aids. I wear them over my I90 Spheres, no ear mold necessary. It is a very easy test. Phonak software including the myPhonak Ap is not compromised and Apple benefits include ANC to handle external noise, much better phone calls in noisy environments, better streaming and fidelity and even some extra volume boost. For a remote mic enable ‘Live Listen’ and pass or place your phone same as you would a Roger ON. Good remote ANC mics are also available. Even if Phonak includes AI in their new ON you would still need to handle the external noise entering the ear so I’m not losing sleep over my other shirt. Why not the AirPod Pro 2 is a separate topic.

I had sudden onset hearing loss a year ago and the hearing in my left ear never returned (other than vibration and echoing.) I was wearing an oticon with a cross. I then demo'd a phonac sphere without a cross and really liked the way it eliminated background noise. Since my audiologist believes I need a cross, when we ordered a new hearing aid for me, we got the phonac infinio with a cross. It works better than the oticon but not as well as the sphere. Embedded in your review it sounds like I can’t use the Roger On 3 because I only have one hearing aide, correct? Will the accessory work with my new infinio or do I need a sphere?

Hi Dr Cliff. I was wondering how I can use this with my ham radio. I would like to use the speaker out 3.5mm connection on the radio and stream into my hearing aids. If possible, I want to do this with the least amount of cables and adapters. Is it possible to do this with just a 3.5mm cable? I have been doing this with a Siemens miniTek with good results. I am the proud owner of new pair of Audeo L90 hearing aids, and I am awaiting the arrival of a new Roger on. My provider used real ear measurements when fitting, and I assume they will fine tune the Roger device prior to sending it to me.

Not sure how beneficial multi talker mode is as it would require purchasing more than one of these very expensive devices. Also, I have the new Infinio Sphere aids from Phonak and have found the Spheric speech in noise functionality to be vastly overrated. Try using them in a Vegas casino and it just cannot handle such a complicated noisy environment. Having said that my new aids are exceptionally excellent compared to my previous Phonak Virto M90s wrt sound quality, appearance and comfort. Also I love the battery charger, and the always excellent Phonak bluetooth connectivity and functionality to my Android phone and TV streamer. To summarize my opinion, the new Infinio Sphere is excellent, however even though the gee whiz Spheric speech in noise setting does not work very well, I would still get the Infinio Sphere in any case. As far as telecoil goes, I have an older pair of Oticon CIC aids and the ConnectLine Streamer I can use in the movie theater until Auracast is implemented.

Yes, it depends on which sound processor she has. See about Roger 20 receiver if she has Nucleus 8. I recommend read the sound processor manual, there is info about Roger receivers. It is a possibility to use an intermediary device, but it is bothersome. I am not sure if Kanso is compatible with ROger.

If I'm expected to pay $2,000 for a few minor adjustments, then creativity is truly lacking here. I have Roger, or rather, Roger Select, or even Roger Pen-more than enough Rogers to get the job done. What a name! I honestly expected this 'new Roger' to fix issues from previous Roger models. Unfortunately, it’s become clear to me that Phonak is starting to fail and is prioritizing profit over the customer.

@@DrCliffAuD I’m not here to criticize, but rather to share some requests that Phonak doesn’t seem to be listening to. We’ve previously asked for a Roger device that’s wireless for media streaming and phone use, but Phonak insists on ignoring this. Personally, I own Roger On, Roger Select, and Roger Pen, and I feel no enthusiasm whatsoever for owning Roger On 2 or 3..We were eagerly waiting for Phonak to surprise us with a Roger device truly worth the excitement.
