I narrowed my phone search down to these two and it was really tough to decide! I'm not a fan of Samsung's software and prefer the cleaner android experience offered on the pixel, and I'm one of those weird ones that actually still prefers a rear mounted fingerprint sensor. But I really wanted that 120Hz refresh rate. I ultimately went with the A52. Overall I'm happy with it. my only gripes are the in-display fingerprint sensor, I only get about 2/3 unlocked on the first try. I miss the 100% accuracy of a rear mounted physical scanner (and being able to do swipe functions on it). And the selfie cam has a metallic ring around it that's super reflective, so any time your phone catches some light, it gets very shiny. It's a minor thing, but noticable enough to be annoying. I would have chosen the Pixel if they'd at least given it 90Hz. Silly that Google ommited that with how common it's becoming in the midrange phone market

You asked about our thoughts on Software differences between the Samsung A52 and Pixel 5a. I'll get to that below. First, I had a Samsung Note 9 for two years. Outstanding hardware, Samsung truly delivers with respect to hardware! I switched to the Pixel 5 for the Software experience. The under the glass top speaker is my only, and DEFINITE complaint with the Pixel 5. Again, Samsung's Note 9 audio is far superior to that of the Pixel 5. So, knowing why I switched, and what I hate about my Pixel 5, here's my thoughts about Pixel 5a software, and a little about 5a hardware. Android 11 on a Pixel 5 or 5a is the same, as far as I can tell. My PRAISE for the Pixel 5 and 5a is that you get REALLY cool software perks, not provided by any other cellular manufacturer, and Google REALLY DELIVERS! It's HUGE PLUS to have Spam calls Identified as they come in, or blocked outright so that you aren't, for example, bothered by someone pretending to be with the tax department. That's HUGE for myself, and Google's Titan M Security Chip does an outstanding job blocking those scam calls. Originally I had my Pixel 5 set to alert me that the incoming call was a spam call, and after 6 successful alerts I adjusted the setting to just block the spam call. It's a fantastic software perk! And the 5a should work the same because the Titan M Security Chip has been a standard on every Pixel beginning with the Pixel 3. Call Screening is another outstanding software perk. When a call comes in click on call screen instead of answer or hang up and you will see a text of the Google Assistant advising the caller that you are screening the call and that the Google customer receiving the call can read everything the caller is saying. And as the call receiver you can ask questions or tell the caller you are busy and you will call them back later. It's quiet and I find it useful especially when it's not the best time to receive a call. You could also use this software perk if you don't recognize the number. Either way, it's something I really find useful and I did not have this option on my Samsung Note 9. Now, I live in Canada and I look forward to Hold for Me, a software option available in the United States of America. I love the idea of being on hold with the Google Assistant freeing up your time by letting you know once an actual person is finally available to speak to you. I think it's fantastic that you could get other stuff done while waiting for the person you are calling to take your call. Time I feel is valuable, so the fact that as a US consumer you can take advantage of this software perk with the Pixel 5a, I think it's Great! Finally, and again only available in the US, Australia and Great Britain, is the car crash detection and emergency help software perk. Hopefully, you will never have to use this feature, but based on what I've read, and based on a user's experience in a car crash, this is a useful feature. Basically, once a car crash is Detected, Google Assistant will ask if you are okay, or if 911 should be called. If you tell Google Assistant to call 911 it will do that. If you are unconscious and you cannot respond, Google Assistant will call 911 on your behalf, advise of a car crash detection AND it will give 911 your location, or at least the location of your Pixel phone. Again, most people will never use this feature, however, it is a useful feature and software perk. Based on the above my choice for software perks between the Samsung A52 and Pixel 5a is for the Google Pixel 5a! And with long battery life, boosted by the larger battery, the less demanding 765G processor, and the Google battery saver mode, the long run time between charging is fantastic! My Pixel 5 has great battery life but only 4080 maH. So the 5a should last longer! And at the $449 price point, I would like to see it in other countries, including Canada, in the future! Cheers!
@saviordream3 жыл бұрын
I agree completely. I have the Pixel 5 as well, and all those software perks are what set it above and beyond all other phones I've used. So much so that I just ordered my wife a Pixel 5a to replace the hand-me-down OnePlus 3T she has been using. She doesn't do much with her phone at all, so the lower specs as far as the processor and screen refresh rate won't bother her, and she'll still get all the great Google software perks, as well as 3 years of monthly security updates and OS updates. I had considered the A52, but aside from being out of stock everywhere I looked, it was the software of the Pixel lineup that really put it over the top.

something i am not finding mentioned anywhere. i had a pixel 2xl and the screen busted. i researched many channels and none of them told me what i was going to run into. the sim card in my old pixel 2xl is preventing me from receiving text messages (i can send but not receive) and it also erased all my old texts images. the words were there but any texts that had images attached or images sent were erased and that is a big problem when you have dozens of customers sending you orders via text and images of orders done via a phone picture. i am currently waiting three days for a 5G sim card to arrive from verizon wireless that will supposedly cure this problem. good job to all you phone experts.

Here, this one it's a better option, perhaps I would liked a better processor, maybe a 750G. As you said, you'll encounter a little lag with the animations but that's a software issue

I know the Pixel 6 Pro will better, but I'm interested in how better the mid range phones are getting.
@silveribis553 жыл бұрын
I've never used a pixel phone but only seen a few in the shops and checked out loads of reviews about them and I did like the smaller size and form factor, simplified idea. And I was doing all of this cos I'm the 'tech nerd' to pick out my partner's next handset. For a long time I was a Samsung galaxy user, I was the first person within my work and social group to use the note one! And I loved it and the pen was useful for a long time in that period. Then I used a note 3 whilst note 5 or 6 was just landing so always ran a bit behind..keeping costs low. Then briefly the note 4 before it's software just failed! So by then I was frustrated with Samsung's bloatware and skin and rising costs...flagships moving rapidly from being £300 then £500 mark and eventually blowing out to £1000 and over! I just stepped away and for about a year I used an honor phone, the cheap version of Huawei and was seriously impressed with those before America sorted that market out. But by then was spending so much time away from home needed a massive all day battery so ended up with my current Motorola g 9 plus. And it doesn't disappoint battery wise, but at sub 300 you find the corners cut on screen quality, camera quality. I'm no stranger to larger devices and they work well for being able to have bigger batteries and bigger screens for Google map navigation for hours on end, but those cut corners, getting ok photos and videos and just putting up with a lower quality screen, does start to bug a person! And checking up on all these great reviews are super helpful. And of course it's never just researching a new device for the partner to finally bring her out of her very aging but still working (sort of) note 3 cos it's really not secure, so for a while she was going to get the pixel 5A, but after a bit of a break, and checking up a few new phones, the newer Samsung a52 5g has now just become her new device. 200 to 300 more than what I've got for myself, it's a lot better all round and I think I could be persuaded to come back to Samsung's devices! At £450 here in UK, (not to mention the extra Purchase of a 25w fast charger for another £18 and £10 for screen and camera lens protection and a clear cover) bringing the total to nearly £500, it's actually got a lot going for it for that price in some ways. I doubt the much anticipated pixel 6 devices will be anything below even £700, more likely just under 1000, I don't believe that it would be worth it somehow, especially understanding how Googles cameras operate more software side to boost colour and looks and smooth out things instead of just putting a bigger aperture and stronger lens and achieving fastly better pics hardware wise. Just my thoughts anyway. But I have noticed it's been a very long time, years in fact, that reviewers and manufactures only cover processors, ram, nits and colour and types of screens, battery, cameras, weight and price points, but never do we now look at or even mention other instruments that phones have that lots of people actually would like to know. What about accelerometers, barometers, gyroscopics, global positioning units.... Some folk have purchased new Samsungs and discovered that they don't have a gyroscope unit in it or a barometer unit in it, and it's what they use their device for, and we always running bench mark geek tests, but never have anything to check, measure and then review how good a unit that's in it. Even like signal and arial types and strengths, they not bits of equipment that anyone ever thinks of or may be concerned about but for some out there they might have a very good reason they'd choose one over another! For instance Google pixel phones have been said to have very poor positioning with Google maps and it can't find itself lots of times, whereas I think Samsung continues to use GLONASS and other supports...and goodness knows how we measure these things! I mean isn't a mobile that can get GSM signal in some of the worst conditions, in some cases better or more important than the latest chipset? These components and features of a device have been so undervalued or not considered at all now in any reviews or marketing thoughts. Having a phone very water resistant is amazing and that's a feature we all appreciate, cos accidents happen. However, having signal is important to. So is a decent GPS unit, and if youre a person that works with digital ordnance mapping, units that support those would be a selling feature to. Thanks for your great review though...for me, the a52 5g somehow tops the Google phone a bit better. 😉

Only issue is the 52 is being axed I think. I know from a few insiders from work, Samsung reps, the 52 was hurting S21 sales so they are pulling them from some cellular carriers. Idk if that's true, but I could see it more for the chip shortage. I would assume they want more Samsung phones in people's hands for that AD revenue.

As far as software is concerned. It has to be pixel right? Cleaner experience, exclusive features, faster updates, and no ads. For me that's what really set them apart. It definitely feels like a second class phone to have ads popping up in the UI.
@ezrapardede19213 жыл бұрын
I'd go for the pixel with the money, but software wise, it's preference, cleaner doesn't always mean better, and don't get to focus abt what Android version it have, bcs most android skins give some features 1 Android version earlier(example: Samsung get screen recording in One UI 2.0's Android 10, while stock Android gets it at 11)

Easy choice for me, 5a because Samsung neglected to add band 13 on the A52 which is necessary for Verizon coverage wise....yet the A51 had it. I used an international A51 on Verizon for a year and originally was going to upgrade to the A52 when it came out. Wound up with a Pixel 5a and love it!

The A52 5g does have band 13. I'm using it on Verizon, and with LTE discovery it shows b13. I will say if you're going off of the specs on Samsungs website it doesn't show it. It also says it has a 720g snapdragon chip when it has a 750g. Seems like it's going off of the regular a52 specs. Not sure why. I didn't see band 71 or 41 for TMobile either, but when I put a TMO sim in they both worked and showed in LTE discovery as well.

I'm pretty sure that Samsung just announced that they will stop with advertising on native apps. In other news...I have owned a pixel 5 (which my wife also owns ) but I missed the apps from the Samsung One Ui (something i would never say when I owned my Nexus years ago), mainly the mail app, the bixby routines etc. I have to say that Samsung has come a long way from the bad old days and now has a very efficient and useful Ui on top of Android, enough to make me need it! Congrats to Samsung software developers. The pixel (although amazing) just lacks some features that come with oneUi and also feels too plastic (not an issue a couple of times ago) and does not compare in fell to a metal (not "plastic deepen") phone. So although I like the pixel, I hope the 6 will definitely eliminate those minor issues, mainly those regarding the feel of the device. Having said that I now say " there is definitely something other than stock android ".

12:50 - It's not a little bit of a drawback, it's a downright deal breaker. I will never use a phone that forces ads on my device unless it's something I knowingly installed with ads. If it's a primary feature of the device and it can't be removed, I'll buy a different phone.

Are u kidding me? Samsung is a piece of shit and here is why: 1. Bad optimization. System lags every time. Even if it has 90hz display the processor is not efficient enough to animate the interface. And downside of this is that you can see lags on samsung more often. 2. Video Stabilization on samsung sucks. 3. It is more expensive and doesn't offer you more than pixel. Don't waste your money and go by pixel or one plus 9R

currently using the a52s 5g, enjoyed it a lot but actually regretted not getting the pixel 5a instead which is only a tad bit more expensive here where i'm from. overall one major deal breaker with the samsung is the bad build quality. the plastic frame squeaks and it's not uncommon to see this complaint. mine squeaks when pressure is applied on the left side. where i live however, volte and vowifi is supported on the pixel by only one carrier that i just find not the most dependable.

I pondered that question for a long time, but having color fidelity on taking the picture, and be able to edit it afterwards is much easier than having an oversaturated cheated picture from the a52. Also another thing to note, samsung galaxies have worst in market networking conectivity and SP conectivitity. If you don't strand too far from your wifi or cities you will be fine. If you work inside plants, do trekking or want to use 5G from a distance further than 4 feet from your modem you should avoid anything samsung. a52 is the teen appeaser, the 5a is the worker/professional choice.
