In Georgia, I’ve found if I give my delphinium afternoon shade it will survive a few years, it’s a short lived perennial for me.

Really cool the way you matched the other raised bed. Can’t wait to see how it fills out so many great plants. I planted my cardinal climbers today here in Pensacola Florida probably a little late but that’s the way it went. Also trying out black eyed Susan vine as well got those in ground as well

I don't think it is too late for planting cardinal climber. We have decided to succession plant it and are planting more this weekend. We want to see if this will extend blooming even longer into the early winter (especially if we don't get an early cold snap). Let me know what you think of the black eyed Susan vine. I have seen it here too, but I haven't tried it.

I’m in Cypress Tx and I had a red Wendy’s wish last year but I had to pull it out this winter due to my dog digging on it. It was gorgeous and I only planted it last spring! You’ll love yours! It grew like crazy and bloomed all year until December

I made it to Enchanted Gardens today! I saw that gorgeous yarrow and liatris but ended up getting two large pots for my front door and plants to put in them. I got pink yellow lantana, fireworks gomphrena and purple sweet potato vine. We are working on getting a new walkway installed so I have to wait to plant them for after it’s installed which will be g-d knows when! I wish that place was closer, it’s amazing!

Fantastic!!! Congrats on getting two large pots. I think they have a really good selection. I think the plants you selected to put in them is a great choice! (The colors will look 🤩). I planted a purple sweet potato vine 3 years ago in a pot in my shade bed. It trailed beautifully and made roots into the ground with one of the runners. That one in the ground comes back for me every year. Good luck on your new walkway! 😊

Very nice. There’s nothing more fun than planning and planting a new bed. I love all your salvias. It’s one thing we can grow here in Florida as well. I do have to cut them back a few times a year, but they always come back.

Hello! Lake Jackson isn't too far from me here in Pearland. Thanks for your comment. That blue in the delphinium is just unreal. I have no experience with this plant, but I just had to have it. I didn't think it did well down here, but I received a comment from a gardener in The Heights saying he grows delphinium every year and some grow over 3 feet tall.

We live in Wisconsin and garden for hummingbirds. We love your videos. Two plants you might consider in your warmer zone are Hamelia patens (hardy zones 9-11, everblooming, hummingbirds love it) and Cestrum (hardy in zones 7-9, everblooming.) Both would work beautifully for you and are basically maintenance free. We think you are trying to grow too many plants like liatris and delphinium, which would perform much better in the colder areas of the Upper Midwest. We would grow Hamelia patens and cestrum if we could!
@ButterfliesNBirds
@ButterfliesNBirds 3 ай бұрын
Hello! You give a great suggestion - as both Hamelia patens (fire bush) and Cestrum grow really well down here! I have 3 Hamelia patens and 1 yellow Cestrum in our garden beds. I will always have Hamelia patens in my garden because of everything that it attracts. The flowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, and the berries attract birds. The delphinium was an impulse purchase from Costco ... the blue flowers are stunning. I know I will only have it for a very short time this spring, but I just couldn't pass it up! 😂

@@ButterfliesNBirds There might also be many other salvias for hummingbirds that would work out so well for you and be perennial in your zone. Almost Eden Plants online is a fantastic site to visit and they have so many hummingbird and butterfly plants ideal for your area. Even if you don't order from them, it is a wonderful resource!

Salvias do really well for us and I am always on the lookout for them! Currently I have 13 different types of Salvia in the gardens. You are the second or third person who has recommended the Almost Eden website. I was recently looking at their site browsing the different Porterweed they had in stock. When do you typically see hummingbirds arrive in the spring in Wisconsin?

How/ where did you get all the wishes salvias? The one in the pot is gorgeous. I started growing salvias last year. They thrived through our SETX record drought and heat. I’ve added even more varieties so far this year too. Your garden is very nice.

I did not plant any Mexican sunflower this year. I had low success with the dwarf variety and my tall version did not do well here in heat last summer maybe I did not water them enough. I might change my mind and plant seeds this week

Our tithonia did really well in last year's excessive heat. But I did make sure it had ample water. It got way taller than I expected ... some were 8 feet tall. I don't like the foliage, but the blooms cannot be beaten in a butterfly garden.

@@ButterfliesNBirdsthis is my first year growing them. Snails ate them all off at first and I thought that was it but then they started growing weeks later from under the pea straw mulch and did really well. Then some died down but after weeks they grew again. I don't know if it's from the original plants base reshooting or seeds have dropped. But definately don't give up when it looks dead and you might get a nice surprise like I did.

@@ButterfliesNBirds ! I have one that has been in the ground for 2 or 3 years. It's never gotten enough sun to bloom really well. Before it gets too hot I'm going to dig it up, split it into 4 pieces (I hope), and try to make a short hedge of it in full sun. I plan to replace the firecracker fern with "Hummingbird Falls" salvia.

My firecracker plant blooms pretty well in full sun. It has sure grown too.I am curious to know how Hummingbird Falls salvia does for you. I lost 4 salvia last summer during our excessive heat and drought. Two were hummingbird falls, 1 Amistad, and 1 Rocking Fuschia. (All were the guaranitica type).

@ButterfliesNBirds
@ButterfliesNBirds 3 ай бұрын
I purchased both as gallon size pots from my favorite nursery, so they were a good size and flowering. By mid summer they were showing signs of stress and declined very rapidly. I had them in different locations too. My neighbor was gone last week for a week and I watered her gardens. I noticed she had one Hummingbird Falls plant. It was the only plant in her entire backyard to wilt. I made sure to double its water and it bounced back. I thought I was supplementing enough water last summer, so maybe that was the issue - too hot and not enough water.
