This game makes me feel part of another world. There are alot of games that emulate a world around you, but very few games make u feel like a living breathing part of it. Star citizen does that for me. That's probably why I can't get enough of it.

I was following your guide in real-time, I finally made it to the space station marvelling at the graphics and atmosphere, then when I went to set my ship down on the landing pad, watching you do it effortlessly, I pressed something and zoomed head first in to the space station and I blew up. 10/10 first experience! Thankfully didn't lose all that stuff purchased from the store but I have to fly back out again. Thanks for this guide, it's really helped me out, I must work on my flying, I got something wrong somewhere I guess!

My toptip for new players: NEVER point your ship directly to your target location (station, base, port etc). Instead, point towards empty space or atmosphere right next to it. If you approach too fast, you won’t crash into it, but just over-extend

Same thing when going to the surface of moons! Don't dive straight down by going vertically but instead fly a bit diagonally. If you seem to be going too fast it will be easier to recover than to recover from a vertical dive.

UPDATE: Some of the menu options have changed since he made the video. Biggest issue I've had so far 15:16 is buying the gun. I can't buy it because of "insufficient space" You have to exit the purchase screen, then re enter it. In the top left corner is "choose destination". Change it to the station. Then buy the gun, exit the screen again, hit "I" and you should see your gun on the right, which you can double click now to equip onto your armor which is exactly where it just said "insufficient space" but it works for me.

This helped immensely. I had the same Insufficient Volume issue. Your workaround solved it easily. Out of curiosity - did you start with 5k or 25k aUEC? I started with zero when I was supposed to start 5k or maybe 6k. Wrote to them and the next day when I logged in - I had 25k. According to the people on the chat, 25k is the norm now apparently. If that is the case - did you buy arm and leg armor? Anyway, cheers for the help.

@@eddiek8179 Sorry for late reply I just saw this. I think I started with 5k. It hardly matters the game is complete trash. I quit playing in about 5 hours of game play or so. MULTIPLE game breaking bugs persist. Upon research I find that these bugs have been in the game for literally YEARS and the devs don't seem to give a flying fck about it as long as they keep selling the game to people that don't know any better. MAJOR ISSUES: 1) Walk into elevator and fall through floor, only option to reset at your bed losing everything. 2) Land on a planet and after parking and powering off the ship you walk off only to look back and see your ship floating away like a leaf in the wind, only option to reset at your bed losing everything. 3) Get on monorail and at destination doors simply will not open, you are trapped, again only option reset at your bed losing everything. 4) Ransom and frequent LOST CONNECTION TO SERVER, yet again only option, repawn at bed losing everything. (I play many other online games, I have never seen this kind of connection issue so its not on my end) After 5 hours of beating my head against a wall of non stop game breaking bugs I was done.

For new players: Don't forget your helmet when you go to and from your ship on a station landing pad. You are in vacuum and you will suffocate and die if you aren't wearing your helmet. Also, I learned a few days ago that some helmets (Kastak Arms Calico according to the SC Wiki) are only rated for in Atmosphere use. Meaning if you wear the wrong helmet in space vacuum you will still suffocate and die. Some helmets are just armor.

Is there like... a reason to have this mechanic? Like is there some kind of particularly interesting interaction or gameplay dynamic relating to this, or is this just one of those bothersome mechanics fOr rEaLiSm that just ends up getting in the way of seamless gameplay? That's basically what I did during some holidays I had a few months ago (on the 3.14 patch). I've been a backer (and monthly subscriber) since 2014 and I'd only played a couple of times in the hangar module and arena commander, and then decided to wait for the PU to release. I hadn't played the PU at all at that point and I suddenly decided it was time to check it out. It was 9am on a Monday morning and no one else was around, so I loaded up SC and played continuously for the entire day, even forgetting lunch until like 3pm. I took my time and enjoyed the detail in the environments around Lorville before eventually figuring out how to get my ship and fly. That was a great day. Definitely recommend making sure you don't feel like you've got other things to do when you decide to check out SC. Find some time to relax and not worry about how long you're in the game.

@@crusherrr1753 - TL:DR - worth trying, but don't spend too much on it. Play with friends otherwise the game'll suck more. Tarkov has been my main game for a while. A wipe and one of the biggest patches happened a month into my Star Citizen purchase, so I haven't had time to play it much. You almost have to play SC with friends - otherwise the long distance travel and frustrating bugs will crush you. At least with friends, you can laugh about the bugs and chat while you watch your ship cruise in auto-pilot for 10-minutes. We do miss SC and talk about how great of a game it can be, so there's something there. It'd be impossible to argue currently that it's a great game. I'll turn back to SC after Tarkov.

Holy crap when you got to the part of claiming insurance on ships, I was expecting longer times like 3-5 days real time. Then you just plop down "Up to one hour" and I just sat there stunned like "That's it?". It's basically sold to me at that point because I'm basically coming from Escape From Tarkov. Insurance claims from that game can take a full day. It's also sold for me because that means the devs never really planned on slowing your progression to a crawl and that, in my books, is one hell of a positive. Thanks for the look at Star Citizen and the guide. Will definitely refer to this on my first few sessions!!!

Also right now in 3.15.0 the monitors might be so close to the com array that the arrays defences will open fire on (since you're not supposed to go mess with the array, there's a separate criminal mission for that) you but I expect that to be fixed soon.

Thanks for the guide. Used your code when I got my Titan starter pack. One suggestion i would add: let people try their ship 'naked' (without ANY gear). Cause my record after the first attempts with this game are as follows: 1. New Babbage was always in the dark so test-flights were nearly impossible here. 2. Second attempt, the metro station was missing (> loading bug) and i fell into oblivion and lost everything. 3. First time in the cockpit with all suggested gear that i had bought again: i saw only hands and could not do anything (> character bug) 4. Second day: Loaded into the game and was stuck in the bed/bunk after getting up (had to logout/login) 5. Then finally(!) made it into the Titan and out of the hangar to Calliope just to crash because the power went out on the ship (reason unknown. pilot error) 6. On the next attempt, the game triggered the 'Leave Spaceship' mid-flight when I was trying to manipulate the cockpit with F (> fell into oblivion again. lost all gear) 7. Next attempt didnt let me into an elevator. Stuck in the wall... dead.... So really: you want to testdrive your ship WITHOUT gear first (eg in the hospital-suit), because just getting to your craft and do your first landings, is so bug-infested that you will loose your inventory multiple times and run out of cash even when having such a great tutorial as this one...

The more I watch stuff about this game the more I feel like this game isn't new player friendly. It is so convoluted, that being said loved the guide nicely detailed.

Just so you know, the Pharmacy Kiosk is completely different now and by default, attempting to buy any consumable will say "Invalid Location." If this happens, step away from the kiosk, and try using it from another angle, or open your inventory a few times. The price of the three SMGs listed is now 2271 by default. Attempting to buy it straight to the backpack will give an "Insufficient Volume" Warning on the buy button with your current video choices. Choose to sent it to New Babbage instead.

My ONLY advice to new players ... make the Avenger Titan your starter ship, skipping over the Mustang Alpha or Aurora MR and then just keep that ship for at least a year. It really is the only ship you need to do a bit of everything pretty well.

I finally decided to get into the game after a few years of holding off. Today was day 1 for me and I wish I had seen this before I started. I'm currently at a point where I just feel overwhelmed with it all. I knew it would be complex, but this is by far the most complex game I've ever dove into. Wish I could convince some friends to play.

Great guide! Now throw it out the window, because the terminals won't work and you won't be able to call your ships, the elevators won't load, you'll either get head on kamikazied by a suicidal bounty, or shot in the eye socket in a bunker mission through a stack of crates. This is assuming that the worst enemy of all doesn't get you, the dreaded 30k

3 crashes later, i discover what's missing in this (otherwise GREAT) guide: landing [spec. on planets] demands **VERY SLOW** movement. @Morphologis I suggest you include a demonstration of a landing for newbies showing in detail flying at less than 0, as well as mentioning autolanding procedures (where available) with N longpress. Other than that, this guide is more thorough and better explained than the others I've been looking at. Thanks!
