Convolution is a mathematical process through which one sound can be shaped by another. You can record the reverberations in a particular space after a loud bang and use the resulting audio waveform (called an impulse response) to make your guitars, drums, synths etc. sound like they were recorded in that same space. You can also use impulse responses to convolve the effect of exotic filters, guitar cabinets, zany delays... pretty much any linear response effect you can imagine.
Convolver comes with 300+ carefully selected factory IRs, showing a wide range of the things it can do. But you can also load in your own samples and create convolutions unique to you.

@7:29 the best thing with the KHS workflow for preset and sample handling, is the ability to add own locations for browsing. So you forgot to mention that =)

really really just amazing… kilohertz ecosystem was already great, but with this addition it gets… well beyond amazing… I am doing sound design since 20 years, but only since I started to use phase plant I really started to follow that white rabbit into the hole…. just keep doing what you are doing…. ah yes I have a suggestion: could you make a playhead visible in lfo editor? that would be soooo great….

I was excited to try this for sound design purposes (Kilohearts is my go to for that stuff now !) but was sad to find that the modulation options were so limited in Convolver. This isn't like you Khz, let us modulate the start time so I can do scrubbing-convolution and make ridiculous monster voices !

Hey, I understand the frustration. I also want to be able to modulate everything all the time! :) Sadly, despite thinking about and trying various imperfect ways to fake it, we aren't able modulate the manipulation of the IR itself without introducing nasty artifacts. Every time the IR changes there's a short (but not instant) precomputation step required before the convolution can start working again, and we haven't got a practical way to make that happen in a way that's quick enough to allow real-time modulation. We'd love to know about another product out there, if there is one, that can do this though! /George

@@Kilohearts Simple Monsters and Dehumanizer 2 from Krotos audio both have scrubbing convolution ! I think to be fair their version is some kind of spectral effect, though I'm not a tech wizard so I couldn't tell you how it works !

Guys, why does convolver sound so good?? Is it a placebo? Maybe the IR samples are better in quality. It's so smooth, it's like when you insert soothe as a next fx in effects chain and remove harsh freqs. Idk, it sounds so fuk**ng good! Good job developers, you're so talented ! ! !

The standard Khs Reverb is great, but its also very limited. With this though, it opens up so many new possibilities 👍

@@Kilohearts Speaking of, would there ever potentially be an update to kHs Reverb adding pre-delay and cutoff filters? You can definitely achieve those things with Snap Heap and additional snapins, but it would be nice to have them integrated.

@@mister_xenomorph I think to be honest the philosophy is that the individual modules in the Kilohearts ecosystem should be about as basic as possible, to allow you to build what you want, how you want, out of the pieces. Otherwise we're just presenting you with what we think you should want. And of course you can save Snap Heap presets with more complex processes - I actually have one doing pretty much exactly what you describe, because I want it all the time. But if I want a different kind of filter, or two different filters, or a modulated predelay, or a sidechained compressor ducking the reverb around the dry signal, or a bit of distortion on the reverb, or a phaser... I think the point is there's no end to how many things we could add to the individual plugins, and then they wouldn't be great simple pieces in a wider ecosystem any more. You know what I mean? /George

Ya'll need to make a better built in EQ for PP. I just bought your standard bundle and now realize I have to spend another chunk of my money to get a decent snap in EQ for sound design. Really takes away a lot of the power of phaseplant being limited to 3 bands. And I cannot afford to spend another $60 on a damn EQ. :(
