NEW Porsche GT4 RS Mods & Track Set Up | Must Do!

Hey everyone welcome back to It's Track Time!
In this video we are going over our initial track settings and mods with Felix Elizardi of Saga Motorsports.
Discuss how well they worked on track and then suggest some improvements.
We'll then explain all of the parts needed to implement these changes and disclose all of the parameters that provided the best performance on our Porsche GT4 RS.

If I had a race team I would do that but with a weekend warrior budget you have to rely on intelligent friends that can clearly communicate their changes and results. BTW - good to hear the content is useful.

Hi, how did you fit 265 and 305s 20inch Hoosiers in your car, is it because the camber plates? I purchased the camber plates from Dundon and Apex 20 inch but in increased the height of the car and the clearance does not look like yours

I use 19” rims for my track setup. The 275’s and 305’s barely clear.

Which model Cayman did you own that would survive an entire year on one set of pads? I love these cars, but am trying to find the sweet spot between fun on track and consumable costs. Thanks!

987.1 - Still own it but it's currently sitting on the bench. It's a full race car so very light but only 350 hp. At the time I bought it I didn't consider it a momentum car but by today's standards it is.

Looks like you went full house. Did you incrementally change these or just replace all of it at once? Would be interesting to know the perceived improvements of each.

@@ItsTrackTime some were on the car when I got it from the original owner. He had tracked it a lot, so some of these were replacements for worn out or damaged items, like the drop links and the dampers. The car handles great, and is competitive in my HPDE group. If only the driver were as good as the car.

Barry, so in the end what's the solution to use 265 and 305 tires on 20"? what are the wheel offsets you have? I have 9x20 ET50 and 11x20 ET50, using stock tires for now, and would love to switch to 265/305. however am concerned about tire rubbing.. use 3.0 camber front and 2.5 rear, stock height. my car is gt4, but sizings seems to be identical.

Unfortunately right after my wheels were produced the head of Finspeed was locked out of his company by his partners. He no longer has access to the computer and the new owners don't seem to understand his records so no offsets were provided. I'll ping them again and see if they have decoded his records yet?

@@coolevets yes same here but I heard you will get understeer with stock 245 fronts. But if you increase the front to 255 it might need adjustments to make them fit

@@hapstakijumnuayporn4117 255 shoudl be fine, especially if you use spacers and/or different wheel offset. 265 might be tight though

For the Soul OAP’s, was that the coating straight from them? How many track days did that last before you added the additional heat shielding?

Yes it's the "Jet-Hot" coating that Soul sells as an option. Within two track weekends the coating was peeling off both of our sets so we wrapped them. If you buy these I would have Soul wrap them before they ship.

Swaintech (white lightning) coating is the best stuff out there...never had an issue w/it@@DarkTouch

For what it's worth you don't need to wrap over the Jet Hot coating my friend. All 4RS Jet Hot coatings have been upped to 2k degree coatings and has been that way since October 2023 : )@@ItsTrackTime

Still weighing my options. I heard a Soul header back catless system this past weekend and it was *loud* but was told it mellows out when the valves are closed.

Matt was happy with his JCR although given it was just the rear muffler replacement the volume was limited. I also have a JCR valved muffler on my GT4 and could barely tell the difference between open and closed so I just pulled the vacuum line and plugged it - valves open all the time. For the GT4 RS I'm looking for a much larger sound delta between open and closed.

Yes, I ran one weekend on the new alignment with more camber and was very pleased with the results.

All of the GT4 guys run the front sway bars soft to deal with the natural understeer. There is a debate between GT4RS guys as to whether it's best to run stiff or soft in the front. I'm confused as to why the sway bar setup that works on the GT4 wouldn't be what works on the RS. I tried the stiff front (rear medium) first and because of understeer am now about to try the soft front next weekend.

We started with medium/medium bars and 265/295 tires. We didn't feel any understeer, probably because we were over gripped in the front, but did feel oversteer and the tail swam under heaving braking. We therefore moved the front bar to full stiff, to counter the oversteer, and upgraded the rears to 305s. Both of the issue then went away.

the GT4RS has stiffer springs, and more downforce. Im guessing that makes a difference. im planning on running med/med. I run that in my GT4 and will try it in the GT4RS im working on.

I think the 4RS has a lot less spring stagger... that would be the reason

I have run 255/35ZR20 Cup2 Rs and they fit fine but burned up in 40 minutes on track.

When I ran the Cup2 Rs I used 255/35ZR20 fronts and 305/30ZR20 rears.

saw both of you guys in feb at COTA. great fun. I have a white GT4 #383 i've been running. I picked up a GT4RS last dec and still modding it. hope to have it ready by spring. will be at COTA in may with the GT4 again I reckon, but maybe the GT4RS.
