Hello world, how are you doing?
In today’s video we will be unboxing the new Powkiddy X New Powkiddy X17 - Unboxing & First Impressions - Part 17. The first 7inch handheld from China it’s Android 7 and it’s the same as the X15 but with a bigger and better screen basically. Still it’s a very nice option for people who like a larger screen to play retro games on, emulation is ok on stoke. As always it come with doggy Happy chic, it was easy to side load emulators on it…love to,know what you think?
It’s not the Powkiddy X18S but I think this is why it’s been held back so let’s hope the Powkiddy x18S land in August

These are pretty much all the same with a different shell. I was going to get this but I'm waiting on a price on the X18s. I'm expecting $300 Australian. Might just stick with my phone as it plays GameCube and PSP really good. Thanks for the review

@@RaiZdbyDINGOES Don't wait for PowKiddy X18s and definitely don't buy this. Get a PS Vita it is cheaper you can get for about 80 dollars maybe 90 for used in good condition. And you can hack it and put retro arch or andrealine and play any retro consoles that you want to emulated. And the screen is amazing with the oled display and cheaper too. This is just a waste of money and expensive as hell!

Cheers Sonic, didn't know what to expect with this one, ended up pretty impressed. Only thing for me is I guess it's too big (especially with a case) to stick in your pocket for those 'maybe I'll have time for a bit of gaming moments'. You know, bus journeys ... jury service ... weddings ... funerals. OK, maybe not funerals ... :)

Overall the performance is not that bad and the screen is really good but gonna pass on this one and wait for the x18s. On a side note that squeaky dpad is gonna make wimplow proud.

Same i am going to order steam deck 64gb one because it's cheap and I already have 512gb micro sd card. I just want to play call of duty. And old pc games from 2000's like Prince of Persia The Sands of Time, Enter the Matrix, Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness and so on that I didn't get to play because I never owned a pc. But I sure as hell had lots of consoles!

Nice device but I still wait for a higher end product with a price tag somewhere between 150-300$. (meaning both better performance & build quality). The competition on this market is still gathering momentum so I believe there is much to expect in the upcoming year. Really like the selection of games you showed, video editing is a good improvement. Keep it up!

Was as set to order one of these but the Steam Deck killed that entirely. I wonder how much of the retro hand-held market they'll eat into, especially as Steam runs RetroArch natively.

@@SonicLoveEmulation You can. It's a fully featured PC! The SteamOS is Linux. And you can use it as usual desktop-OS. However you can also install Windows. I reserved the 256GB to put both OS on it for Dual-Boot. Did you reserve on as well?

You're talking about the JXD S192 which obviously the X17 and a few others are modelled on because the S192 is over 5 years old now.

This looks better then I thought, but I really struggle with the fact that it only has one analog stick. May pick it up anyway, GBA on this would look great. Still working in finishing Minish cap and it would look fantastic on this screen.

@@SonicLoveEmulation i have PS Vita OLED version and the vast majority of retro consoles emulated games looks amazing on PS Vita OLED display. Nothing to hate on this but the display of this PowKiddy X17 looks good as PSP 3000 definitely a beautiful lcd display right there. But PS Vita OLED display is far superior to any display on handheld market. Even better then Nintendo Switch display!

Old Hardware and screen isn't 1080p, no second analog Stick and Speakers sounds very "plasticly"... Best Android 7inch device is still the Archos Gamepad 2... And i have many 7 inch Android Devices, also from jxd and gpd, etc... It's still my daily driver for 5 years now... Slim, comfortable to hold and also ips display... But hard to find nowadays.

Yeah, i have the JXD S7800b Had issues with screen but recently got screen replaced, for most emulation its still great really. As usual you have issues with N64,Dreamcast and PSP though, some work good, some dont.

I installed the clean rom of the X15. The X17 starts but I don't see anything on the screen. I hear the sound when I move the stick. I didn't manage to save the old firmware. Please can you send me a link withe the old firmware so that I can flash the old firmware up again?

Did you find when using the built-in button mapping, were you unable to put the B button where it was on the screen? I found when touching the mapping b button and dragging it to the B on screen, it wasn’t going enough to the edge of the screen and so not being picked up as part of the game controls. Any advice to sort that issue?

you should be able to change the position on the on screen layout and then you can add the buttons to them properly

I’m still having major issues with the button overlay, it’s only on the right hand side. I just can’t set any buttons that are close to the right side. Also having issues with the RetroArch app picking up the control configuration. Even when i try to set the control scheme myself, it see’s my inputs as mouse control.

Hey man am good thank you, hope you are well also? Ok will if that happened to me I would but the sd card in to the pc and use a program call disk genius and reformat the sd card and give it another go

What size is the card? Even if its 64.or 128gb or larger trying formatting it to Fat32. You may have to use a 3rd party program like gui format which is a free program to format a large capacity card to Fat32. Anyway, try that and see if that works.

Is there a clean rom for this? I seen that you can use the x18 clean rom and it seems to work via hdmi out to a tv, but the 7" screen does not work. Seems to me that the x18 clean rom would work, but just needs to have the driver for the 7" screen included. Also, I found that you can switch systems to a game system, but it is VERY dodgy......This is a very weird device. I think I will just stick with my RG351V for now and sell this abomination. IMHO, this is useless unless it has a clean rom.

Agree with Sonic. Screen size aside how many psp games can the RGB10 run at 2x? Or even 1x? The performance of PSP at 2x on the games I seen in Sonic 2nd X17 vid is actually pretty impressive and better than I thought it would be. Stil on the fence though for other reasons.

Those buttons sound cheap and clanky .The build quality looks bad no amoled display for the price. Sound quality bad. I'm guessing the battery will probably pack in quickly. It's light because it's poor quality . No second thumb joystick. Stick with a ps vita which doesn't cost a whole lot more. I wouldn't pay more than £40-50 on one of these console's.

As much as I love 7" screens Im gonna pass on this one. My old JXD S7800b is just fine now that its working again but if it wasnt… and the X17 was upspecced a little Id defo think about it. Btw, not to sound anal but the descriptions say res is 1024x600… which is same as the X2,RS18 etc. .not 1920x1080 which is 1080P. Also dude, why are you playing in stretched view? You know you cant do that..😁 Looks terrible. Also, the G button mapping is actually really handy for android games (my JXD has that feature too). Yeah you can use it for emulators but I would think mapping buttons within a stand alone emulator and/or retroarch is the way to go. Often, when you launch an emu, it will detect you are using a.controller, in this case the controller being the inbuilt controls. Still wondering if the battery is actually 4000 or 5000mah though. Description on ali says 4000. But some other places and on the box it shows 5000.

ya I get that buddy, the one thing I do like is the screen I think your right about th 7 inch being a sweet spot it looks awesome the gba is so so good really brings it to life man ya the battery is actually really good I got nearly 6 hours out of it playing full brightness, ya I realise its 1024x600 but still I have to say it looks incredibly sharp…I think if you are in to the bigger screen size and don’t mind running with most n64, Dreamcast and PSP at 1x some with 2x this is not a bad shoutout for first time emulation handheld

I am still watching this video but I really wanted to ask if you had an opportunity to try Sega Rally for the Saturn yet? That is sort of my holy grail benchmark game to have running on a cheap retro console.🤣. My expectations aren’t really high, but I thought I’d ask. That squeaky D pad would be a real issue for me. I am a bit weird when it comes to things like that.🤣

@@SonicLoveEmulation Yeah I figured you would but I was just curious about that right now. Anyways now that I look at the specs for this I realize it’s not going to run Saturn well. I do like the screen though. Thanks for the video and your awesome comment response time, man.😂
