Hello world, how are you doing?
In today’s video we will be taking a look at the new X70 from Powkiddy a 7 inch retro handheld…but let’s see if it’s a hit or miss?
Let’s how the Powkiddy x70 has good emulation, controls and screen lol nope it’s a pile of Shit!

As someone who needs glasses to read, let alone play on the smaller screens, I can say I like to use this one for GBA which nearly fills the screen

Hey! Happy to see this. I bought this on a whim a while ago. It is actually one of my favorite ways to play arcade games! Not a bad device. Still play it. Battery I think is crappy though.

I did have a good time playing arcade and gba but the controls are not the best for fighting games sadly but I can see a good few people liking it because the screen is huge and some emulation is ok on it

Dont forget its good points. It doesnt come in that terrible blue red only switch color.. 😁 And it hasnt got the Powkiddy logo on the front… 😁..and maybe it has a type c charging port instead of micro usb.. Thats pretty much it for this one I think. ☺️😉

Yeah i think I want this. The games i like play well on this and the screen size is icing on the cake. I already have the higher end emulators so this will fit in well.

I would try and get the trimui smart pro from ebay or aloexspress..I think you can pick it up for around 50-70 pound and it's way better than this one

How do you get 4:3 aspect ratio? I got one of these from Amazon and it's decent enough for what it is, but every system is in 16:9. I've gone through all the menus and can't figure it out. Is it a key press or something?

It's a pity that branded Chinese companies like power consoles (Powkiddy and Anbernic) are slipping in quality ((Let's see what the creators of Retroid Pocket 3 will do!

Well said I hope they can bring out a decent 7 inch handheld that can do up to psp and Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, N64 that would be perfect in this form factor

I have them both, the X2 and the X70. The X2 seems to have the better cpu and firmware. Powkiddy's best 7 inch at this time is the X17 while the Max 2 is Powkiddy's best 5 inch handheld (some will say the X18S is Powkiddy's best 5 inch).

@ Jono Think you wasted your money on this one Jono. Im all for budget 7" handhelds ..but jeez.. Why make a crappier version of the X2 ya know, I mean that one is cheap enough.. We have that… why a make crappier version. 🤔.. They could have kept the IPS screen of the X2,the 1.3ghz a7 quad and 256mb ram,added stacked shoulder buttons off the X51 and that would have already made a decent cheap 7" handheld. Even if they would have kept the 900mhz A9 quad core and 128mb ram it has now and change the rest, that would have been at least passable I think. Oh well.

@@fonzitheman To be honest with you, I'm planning to get myself a Stream Deck really soon! From what I've seen online it can just about emulate it all. For me it will be classic Windows PC games and the common 32bit and below video game emulation with Emudeck.

@@fonzitheman I still have my X70, it's not a complete failure. I knew it wasn't powerful before I purchased it. I purchased it mainly for quick and simple GBA emulation on a 7 inch (also for GBA RGP games). It emulates GBA, GBC and GB perfectly and it can be used as a video player.

Brought one for my disabled brother for Christmas just for the 7 inch screen I think he will be happy with it But will get a good SD card for it when it arrives I think and will need to work out how to add box art to ROMs as he cannot read so goes via visual cues

If its anything like the X2,A12/13 and Coolbaby RS18 adding boxart is a slow and tedious process. You need to edit each systems XML file and add lines of text for each game manually, so having 100s or 1000s of games on will take a long time. I have done this to my RS18,bit by bit on a sep micro sd card. But, if you look up wagners techtalk channel and website he has created a script that auto generates it for you. Thats for adding the names of roms so they appear in the front menu ,to include boxart, you will have to use screenscrape for pc to scrape and get pics. But… I still could be wrong as the pandora style front end is different to the models I mentioned. Perhaps its easier on this one, who knows until you actually try. Still, would like to know how you get on though. 👍

@@fonzitheman I will make sure I let you know indeed I expect to get the handheld end of September and if tedious at least it gives me a few months to add all art work on and to be honest he only wants some megadrive SNES GBA and mame games so probably a few hundred at most So although it may be tedious I can do say 30-50 a weekend I guess

Im a huge fan of 7" handhelds as you know and when I first saw this one on aliexpress I was excited. Until I read the specs and saw some vids. This is obviously the Powkiddy X2 shell reused. But the X70 is easily worse. The X2 at least has an IPS screen, better cpu (corex A7 1.3ghz quad core vs 900mhz A9 quad) and ram. (From what I read 256MB whereas the X70 I think is 128MB) So instead of making an improved version of the X2 they made a crappier even cheaper one. Was that necessary? I mean the X2 is already not very expensive so what they should have done is made a slightly improved version, keep the IPS screen of the X2 and added stacked shoulder buttons like the Powkiddy X51 has. This would have made an OK cheapish 7" handheld. What a waste but they always seem to do these things. So you are still better off with the X2 (revision 2 version) however it only comes in that terrible blue red switch color scheme. The only good thing about this one is at least its not in that terrible blue red switch color lol and no Powkiddy logo on the front lol.Thats it,those are its good points lol.

I totally understand man I just can’t see how hard it would be to do the rgb10 max in a 7 inch version that to me would be the perfect emulation retro handheld and with a solid ips display but that would be perfect and I know there would be a lot of people that would also love it it’s a dam shame I say…sometimes I think china companies do it for a laugh ha ha

@@SonicLoveEmulation Yeah, Id settle for a 7" RGB 10 Max Max lol Even if it has that same old 3326 chipset. That would keep the cost down at least. Once you start swapping better chipset the price starts to go up. Just bump the screen res a little (cause 7") and bump the battery a little maybe. This would at least make an affordable linux only based 7" handheld. Give us a few versions even, one with the 3326 and another with something a bit better. I dunno, just suggestions lol

It isn't terrible... At least what it can emulate, it does fairly well. Lack of decent SNES, bad diagonal recognition, and bad viewing angles are probably deal-breakers, but for a big GBA fan who wants a big screen, might be worth it since it is so cheap.

Don’t get me wrong there was some good points but not enough for me to like it you just end up feeling let down of what it could be…I suppose gba was good on it as the d_pad was not that affected even though it’s poor quality sadly but I think you are right it could be ok for someone but that someone is not me

I copied the file structure to new sd card and put own legally acquired ROMS on it. Went to settings from main screen, synced the New ROMS (it can take some time on this part). The only issue is with PS1 if you have bin & cue files for PS1 they sometimes will not sync. However go to last tab, navigate to PS1 folder, then launch the first BIN file for the game you want and it will launch

@@SonicLoveEmulation screen and tin speakers not the best. But for the price it’s not bad. Considering the old 7” ones were plain horrible. The x39 actually is a bit better in quality but smaller screen. Same specs on it and also the new x51 with stacked shoulder buttons

@@SonicLoveEmulation Dont think you can put Batocera on this one. I doubt the image for the PS5000/7000 will work or the A12/13 one cause this one has diff chipset. Only on the X2 but it has issues.

Pretty sure Batocera wont work. You could try the Batocera versions for the A13 and PS7000 but the X70 has diff chipset than either of those so I doubt itll boot. Unless theres something else 🤔

powkiddy had much worse devices in the cheaper price segment, at least they have a normal dpad now and a slightly improved software, maybe they get it right even with the cheap handhelds in a few years
