I just stumbled across a '53 Cranbrook down off an old abandoned road last weekend. It's probably been there for 50+ years, full of bullet holes but enough left that I was able to ID it. Cool to see one intact.

years ago several auto companies put LH thread on drivers side supposed to hold better if not real tight something to do with the tire rotation is supposed to tighten as it rolls

Great work! It's amazing to see how the original Crankbrooks were constructed! I remember all the original parts and mods i had to do over the years. My 53 2 door coupe started out as a 6 cyl flathead column shift in 1997. After a ton of time and $$$, has evolved into a drag and drive street rod. I'm in the middle of a major remodel. Check it out when you get a chance. Congrats, you've done an amazing job!!

Yep, MOPARs have/had LH thread on the left side of the vehicle. Probably not a good idea, but it amazes me they got that past the bean-counters.

Very nice old Plymouth, the parts car is a plus, I've been watching another channel where they're fixing up a '54 Plymouth, they just rebuilt the fuel pump on it,it looks similar in color to your parts car.

Thanks! They aren’t very common, nor as popular as the 50’s chevys. I’d love to build a Chevy when the wallet supports it.

Cool Car and just so you know or can try , when you have stuck wheels you can pour water on the trailer and those wheels slide a helluva lot easier

Looks like there were a couple more. You should have made a package deal. Nothing like having spare parts on hand.

Both cars I got were from the same family, they were purchased brand new on the same day by the guys grandfather, who worked at Waters Plymouth in San Francisco. So the cars were in the Bay Area for most of their life. Explains all the rust 😂

My first car as a lad was a cherry 54 Plymouth 2 dr post. Price was $450, ran perfect, this was1965. I have no positive memories of it at all, had absolutely no character or cause for excitement, other than it was better than walking.

Chryco cars have LH thread on left side. Even my '64 Plymouth had them like that.

Leave everything as original as you possibly can. Rebuild the brakes, and perhaps go to a two circuit braking system. Leave the flathead 6 as it is. If it's in good tune it will give you more power than you need with that ride. Those engines were almost as legendary as the slant 6, but perhaps legendary in their own right just the same. Hallmarks of such engine are quiet and smooth operation, and a good torque curve, and great drivability. I had a '53 Dodge truck with the 218 inline 6, and it was quiet enough you could hardly hear it from 10 paces away when it sat idling. I have footage here on YT. If it weren't missing large areas of paint I'd leave it as it is, and after polishing hit it with a clearcoat, perhaps.

I like the idea! I’m definitely going to get it going and driving as close to original as I can. The parts car has a better looking RR door that I’m going to swap over.

Is that an electric bell 🔔 on the firewall ? Ive owned a few plymouths and never seen a horn looking like that. 😅. I see it has a Franz oil filter too . They use a toilet roll instead of the regular type filter .

Plymouths were famous for having reverse threads on the left side of their cars until the mid-80s.

I just got basically the same car in a trade for some work on a motorcycle from a customer that I've after for awhile, Mines the same color but the front clip is white, and it has no drive train, the original front end was just too gone so he replaced, I have a 71 Dart that a tree fell on last year that I'm going to strip the 318 Engine, Torque flight auto Trans and rear end out of and put it in the Cranbrook. I'm going to paint it White and paint the roof burnt Orange and I'll probally paint all the chrome Copper.
