I remember hearing several years ago that the Germans would not buy these over there because the qc in Alabama was really bad. That said, it's held up over 200k miles, so it must not be too bad. I will keep watching to see how it goes. Hopefully, you won't drag it out to long since I'm already 74 and would like to see it up and running well this lifetime. 😅😂😅😂😅 See ya!

I've heard various things, mostly positive, especially about later W163 models like this one. I'm looking forward to cracking into this one.

Also, in terms of dragging it out, I have no plans to. The red Vanagon is more of a long-term project. I hope to get this Mercedes done and driving before end of year.

Btw on the ML320 I must caution you that you need to be very careful with the electronics on those cars. They are super sensitive and even something as simple as disconnecting and/or replacing the battery and in some cases even light bulbs and brakes will require you to go through a special calibration procedure and/or process. It’s still doable for the average DIYer but you need to know exactly what you’re doing because it can really cause a whole laundry list of problems on those cars if you don’t go through the proper procedures.

funny enough I almost bought one of those! But unfortunately it needed upwards of about $8k worth of work to make it good and reliable again, and that's a little bit more than I was willing to spend. So I ended up with a 2005 Honda CR-V EX with 4WD and a 5 speed manual transmission. I love it!@@MercedesDieselGuy
