My mother came from the O'Grady family who lived in Vermont. I'd only been to visit my grandparents in Vermont a few times in the early 60's. The last two times I went there was for the funeral of my grandmother in the late 60's, and then my grandfather in the early 70's. I can't remember the actual years.

The "garter" piece looks more like the hanging piece for a calendar or a picture. A good clue is that oval section is designed for a nail head to go in then the weight of the piece holds it in place where it is smaller than the size of the nail head. Entertaining as always!

I wondered but what it was too small for a Mason jar, but something similar, but smaller, was used on top of soda bottle. Could that be what it is?

Maybe the real treasure of the day was spending time with your bud. I wonder if the “garter” on iron was actually the back of a picture hanger?

Brad, The small clip attached to the iron piece is called a corsett busk. Ive dug dozens of them. There would have been several of those clips attached to an iron strip that stiffened the back of a woman's lace up corsett.

If the landowner found the carriage/wagon step on a stone wall, maybe prior to his purchase of the property, it could have been detected before? Sometimes detectorists leave unwanted finds for others or landowners, Thinking maybe that could be another reason for lack of finds. Enjoyed today's video as usual. Your videos are the show I look forward to every week, tv is out the door., figuratively! LOL!

I saw a video that the detectorist mentioned how the post office on rural delivery would actually cash checks at the mailbox and collect coins for postage payment, often the owner or postman accidently dropped some change at the mailbox. The driveway at the road intersection could have some results.

Good job considering you're essentially sifting tails, no way you's are the first, (or second or third), folks seeking that land. Think 50-60 years with machines and another 50-60 just kicken dirt. Loved the penny, great shape. It's so easy for me to say be more carefull digging, but I aint out hitting iron in the 90' sunfor 6-7 hours. Great channel, thanks.

Your "hitch" is 1/2 of a broken snaffle bit from a horse or mule bridle. Nice finds. I HATE swinging over hard, dry, packed dirt. It seems like it's always either blazing hot or freezing cold with no in between when the ground is like that.

IF that is Ochre, it's a natural pigment. You just grind/mash it up with a mortar and pestle, or a hand Mueller (looks like a large glass Risk boardgame piece). Crush into a powder, then add small amounts of linseed oil (not boiled) and you have oil paint!

I think the clip piece that Chris found, that resembles a garter clip, is one of many clips along one side of a corset. You are problem NOT the first to hunt that l land, I don't know how long that landowner had owned that property but I believe it's been cherry picked with you guys getting some of the items that the others h hasn't found (just a thought). Congrats Chris for finding some great relics while hanging out with your long time friend and m my favorite detectorist n Brad 😀 I'm glad you two were able to eek out a few notable finds. A Fatty IHP is getting harder to find these days so that alone is a treasure in of itself 👍☺ You guys have a great weekend!!

Rock of Ages "Ochre is most commonly defined by archaeologists as any iron-rich rock that can be used as a pigment. Most people associate the term with hematite, or red ochre, chemically known as Fe2O3. ... It's possible some of the red ochre we find may have been yellow once.” Mar 15, 2018
