This week in the PlayStation landscape we have a lot of updates. Three different kinds! We have the beta for the updated Explore tab, which just got some new widgets. Then we have the Discord calling functionality turned on server-side for everyone. And then we also had a PlayStation Portal firmware update for public Wi-Fi support. Elsewhere throughout the week we had the Nintendo Direct which was still a host to a plentiful amount of third party games, and the LRG livestream that confirmed more Classic games coming back. Then there's Shawn Layden! The former SIEA CEO who thinks he's got the AAA games business all figured out. So we discuss that as well. Man, these descriptions are really getting long nowadays. Shawn Layden isn't wrong. There was nothing wrong with 6-15 hour games. Hell even PS2 era games where you can just basically speedrun through them in like 3-5 hours I enjoy. I don't have enough time for longer games anymore. If it makes them cheaper too, even better.

It's absolutely gobstopping that the PS4 still has more personalization features (folders, screenshot backgrounds) than the PS5. Sony really is the Microsoft of their own OS.

PS3 had a better and cleaner UI, video chat, music visualizer, custom backgrounds, a multi-page web browser, custom themes that you could create or download from websites through the browser, folders that could store music, photo, and video files, a custom photo visualizer/slideshow that had a Polaroid feature that made 2D pictures into a rolling pile of 3-Dimensional Polaroids, and PlayStatation Home... Their UI's have gone backwards in functionality.

I appreciate timespitters 1 more and more as time goes on. The campaign had some really good levels especially the mansion. And the multiplayer is still really fun. The rocket launcher is great in this one.

I always try not to get my hopes up with the catalogues. I remember seeing that Legaia 2 Duel Saga would be coming to PS4. Say what you like about the game but I loved it and it never arrived. I would absolutely love to see Bugs Bunny Lost In Time come back. That is PS1 royalty!

I don't know about you, but I've been gaming for the past 30 years... I never asked for each game to be BIGGER, I asked for them to be BETTER... I am the exact target person Shawn L. is speaking about. I have more money now but I don't buy games because of a gigantic backlog... I probably have time now for 3-4 games every year. Moving to more condensed games is the way to go, but I feel the industry is too focused on what others do that nobody dares to provide a smaller game, so they focus on quantity over quality. We seem to be getting to a diminishing return point with graphics so I wouldn't mind if this generation goes for 10-12 years in total... Give me better experiences, graphics are good for the moment.

Absolutely agree with shorter games. I find myself checking How Long to Beat before deciding my next game, looking for reasonable length. Also, the Portal is awesome. I played in the US with my PS5 being 10k kilometers away and it went great!

Saw a dude with a portal in the laundromat. Don't know what his connection was like but he was enjoying himself. Also still don't have that explore page update which is disappointing. The PlayStation rewards/sony rewards program ending is also a bummer. I was using the PS card to buy games and then collecting points towards more games.

Sean is wrong. There may be a large percentage of people that don't finish games. But those same people will buy a game knowing that it's a huge game even though they may not finish it. So it's still a selling point even if people don't take full use of it. If you shorten the games, those same people who don't finish games anyways, may be inclined not to buy the game. Somewhat of a paradox but it's the reality.

Daxter is available everywhere except in France :/ The European version available everywhere contains the french language so we have no idea why it is not there and no answer from PlayStation France on twitter to know if it will arrive soon...

I wouldn’t consider 30 hours “crazy”. When games start getting to the 50+ hours range that’s when I have to carefully consider whether or not I want to devote my time to them. But 30 hours and under I’m usually ok with.

One thing I want to bring attention to: The Tomba Games, Gex Trilogy, The Bubsy Colletion, Clock Tower Rewind and a few other games are only getting physical releases. As in there is no digital release for them.
