My Dad had a 1.1L on a G plate from brand new! Royal Blue I think the colour was (solid navy colour). That car took us all the way down to southern Portugal as well as Hungary in the early 90s. It did suffer with a poorly carb after some dodgy fuel on the border with Ukraine. Nice example - a little TLC and that will look great. Check for rust under the door aperture rubbers - I know that both my Dad's new ones developed rust there towards the bottom of the A-Pillar area behind that rubber. Second one was the mildly facelifted model on a K reg (1.3 LA) in Radiant Red (which is the colour you have). Do hope you're going to get the steel wheels refurbished! ☺️

Thank you for that tip, I shall investigate the door rubbers when I clean it. Yes I am looking forward to giving it some TLC. I’m going to give the wheels a wash and see how they come out. They have been covered with Ghia hubcaps for years, which were of course the first thing I removed from the car! I’ve got the correct centre caps on order too 👍

Just started watching the Ford Content on the channel, I really like these Wheels on the fiesta,.so much different from the other fords of the era. Looking forward to seeing this project progress. Two keys, I know that feeling with my Escort I have a different lock on the driver's door to the rest of the car! 😂😂😂

Yeah, the fiesta didn’t have exposed steels for long. Wheeltrims came standard on almost all from the early 90s. Thankfully I’ve sorted the keys now so I do only need one

What a lovely vehicle! Just saw a video on this era Fiesta, with its different engines and trim levels. Such a shock to see no one riding the train!

@@MorselsAndMotors Siăn, the Rovr channel here on KZbin. They have instructive videos on all different vehicles from all over the world. The Fiesta video is from 1990-1992, not sure of the exact date. And this model Fiesta looks so similar to the Mazda 323 of the same era, to which Ford had a stake in Mazda at the time.
@frothe42

@@MorselsAndMotors Actually Siăn, I just went to the Rovr channel and the video I watched was 1996 Ford Fiesta. I don't know if engines were similar or not, but I do know that the Fiesta featured looked like yours. The video would be under the column of Ford UK. Since I'm on my mobile phone, I am unable to copy and paste the link.

I much preferred the look of these MK3 models over its predecessor. That must be one of the earliest examples, a relative had a G reg Ghia as her first car in the late 90s. To say that Pop is a base spec it doesn't look to bad for it. The generation of cars such a the MK3 fiesta and MK1 Clio a few years later were definitely a step up in refinement over there predecessors, even in budget spec.
@MorselsAndMotors

Yes I do too, I was never a fan of the mk2 for some reason. It is indeed a really early one. You’re absolutely right about refinement. I was so surprised to be weaving through London traffic and up the A1(M) with a level of confidence of a much newer car. It’s a car designed for the 90s I suppose, whereas my Metro was for the 80s, the 340s were launched in the mid 70s, and the 240 traces its roots to the 60s.

Gemma is a beauty. She reminds me of Estelle, the red 95 Mk3 Fiesta that I inherited from my mum and drove for years and years. Such wonderful solid cars.

The rear wash wipe and mirror on the left side was an option, the engine should be quiet and not a bag of spanners , when maintained properly tappets should be checked and ajusted, people who slag off these engines really dont have any idea of maintainance! I remember going in a new 88 mk2 Ghia and the 1100 engine was so quiet we didnt think it was running, i currently have an E plate mk2 in my fleet i used as a daily, again i set the tappets and its as sweet as a nut

Hi mate I saw your lovely fiesta at the Old Ford Rally at Gaydon motor museum a few months ago. It looked mint I did wait around for a short while for you to come back to the car so I could chat to you about it. I had one exactly the same spec as yours for a short while in Maritime Blue G697 ALA, it was mint and original with just 50k on the clock from new. 👍

Super little car! You are so lucky it has not rusted under the rear bumper, as the mk3 was prone to it. I did notice the front under bumper was not as good as the rear. Look forward to the updates!

Your collection is going from strength to strength. It's awesome what you're doing with all these old motors! Can remember these Fiestas and their very distinctive sounding engines everywhere when I was a kid. This being an F reg (89) would be a very early mk3 too ... correct me if I'm wrong but that was the year they were launched. Engine is one of the quietest I've heard in one of these as well, hopefully that's indicative of good health. Cracking find that.

Thank you very much indeed. Yes you are right, they were launched on 13 April 1989, and this one was registered 5 days later so it must be one of the very earliest surviving mk3s.
