Where the vacuum hose connects to the spindle, suspend the hose with long spring / surgical tube / bungee cord from the ceiling, so there is a very slight upward force on the spindle, rather the full downward force of the hose's weight Also, another point: I've seen several other vids where a spindle held only on the bottom tilted, deflected with strong forces on the tool. you can see this by using weight scale to pull on the a bottom of a rod in the collet, with the spindle in lowest position . The solution was to add a another support at top of the spindle. Which of course, MH could make with 3D printer. :)

Hi Marius, the way you tried to align the spindle axis perpendicular to the X-Y plane is not the best way. It only works if you know that the Z-Axis is moving perfectly perpendicular to the X-Y plane. And I doubt that the Z-Axis is perfectly aligned. A better way where the alignment of the Z-Axis doesn't matter is to mount an dial indicator on the spindle axis somehow so it extends to the side. This does not require any precise things. It just has to be rigid enough. Then you need a surface that is parallel to the X-Y plane. You have flattened the surface of your wood plate right? Than that's the surface you can use. Rotate the spindle so the indicator is on the left and zero it. Then rotate it by 180° so it is on the right. If the spindle axis is perpendicular the indicator should also show zero. Repeat that for the other axis. Then you will have a nearly perfect aligned spindle axis. I hope the explanation is understandable. Best Alex
@TheMetalButcher4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it would be better, though this is wood. Examples can be found my searching for "tramming a mill".
@peacekeeper51194 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex, a Video is better than thousands of words: why not make one on your channel or is there already one available ? Oh and BTW: are not his test all about the Z- axis only ? He is testing in place up‘n‘down ( z-axis ) while he is not testing on a different place ( x/y axis ) . It is also my understanding, that with this method he will also compensate miss-alignments in the z axis.
@AlexCNC4 жыл бұрын
@@peacekeeper5119 maybe it's a good idea to make some video about that. You can also align the spindel axis by doing test cuts with a big cutter. That can be very accurate too. One thing is to look for steps and another thing is to look at the circle pattern. It should have marks from both leading and trailing cutting edges. I don't know how good the tool marks are visible on wood. But the steps from the passes should be visible. And of course this has to be done again for both directions. @Marius pleas don't understand that as offending or so. It should just be a friendly advice how you can further improve your CNC :)
@peacekeeper51194 жыл бұрын
Alex CNC hmm, „looking“ at testcuts sounds not like measure. Maybe there is a way to measure it better ? Video would be excellent. Wood of course is much depending on moisture and grain direction (beside temperature etc also for other material ) so once cut with high accuracy, there is a good chance that later it is anyhow not the same size 😄. But Felder allows to use the CNC also for other non-FE material, so setup could be an important game changer.
@AlexCNC4 жыл бұрын
@@peacekeeper5119 in aluminium you can easily see a misalignment of about 0,02mm measured over 200mm distance. With testcuts you don't need a dial indicator and a good way to measure the X-Y plane. But Marius has a good X-Y plane with his surfaced waste board. So I would use the dial indicator method there. Once set this won't needed to be set again and it also doesn't matter what material he is cutting as long as the machine does not flex to much. Of course if the Z-axis bends a lot due to the cutting forces there will be steps in the material again.

You and your pursue of German perfection! :P lol. It was amazing as always! Great Job as always Marius!
@gatisozols4 жыл бұрын
I believe by tramming this way You made the spindle parallel to Z axis. This means that if Z axis is not perpendicular to the work surface the cutter is still cutting these groves. My suggestion would be to tram against the waste board (by attaching gauge to arm sticking out sideways from spindle, then by turning spindle and adjusting for same value for whole rotation).. At least I do it that way, but my machine is much, much cheaper and less rigid..
@FritsvanDoorn4 жыл бұрын
You have some neat pieces of equipement.
@rainerzufall6894 жыл бұрын
I feel like by having a rod in there that is off in two directions the first measurement can't be precise because the Indicator isn't always touching the "highest" point of the rod. If it is at the bottom it should slowly fall off that ridge when going up and vice versa.

Those lines are basically nonexistent and easily sandable! You truly are a perfectionist. I was wondering if the bit itself might be contributing to some degree also.
@dmitriykarlovsky3694 жыл бұрын
Right. Lines appear because bit spins in opposite direction during two passes. It's just a visual effect of wood fibers bended in opposite directions.

Wow, interesting calibration ! I wonder how Felder is supporting that. At least you would need the measurement setup as an option. Also what I did not capture: is the remote control part from the software or part of Felders Hardware ? So is the Eding SW Part of the Hammer CNC ? Your mic might capture „electrical high freq noise“ from a circuit inside the remote control. Try to wrap some „grillfolie / Alu „ around your mic housing to prevent that. You might need to connect the stuff to ground , but often wrapping around is good enough. Thanks for this interesting video !
@MariusHornberger4 жыл бұрын
Even if setup perfectly from Felder, a lot can happen during shipping and setting up the machine that knocks off the accuracy in the 1/100 mm. The remote is part of the software. Felder doesn't make the softwar or the remote, they just use it.
@peacekeeper51194 жыл бұрын
Marius Hornberger while I total understand that any machine needs a setup at the place where you use it ( same with your or mine K3 ), I wonder if Felder delivers the tools to do so? For the K3 no setup tools are delivered, but they mention what is required. Your special hand made tool ( maybe from the lathe you have build the stand for 😁) e.g. would be a tool that at least is required for the setup. What is Felder suggesting ?

Your method of checking your spindle's alignment is based solely on the fact that you assume your other axis works ok. Never do that, now, if you didn't show it in the video, that's something else, but if you didn't, the procedure to entry level CNC grading is to start from the largest to the smallest element, group by group, until the last item to check, is a cylindrical precision item.
