I almost wish they would just drop the analog logic and move everything to composite. It's confusing at first, but so much more powerful and clean when you figure it out. At least put composite IN/OUT on everything in addition to the analog, so we don't have to build massive MCs to break out all the logic every time we use COMP. That way, you could use analog for the simple things, but those of us who are comfortable with composite or when you're building a more complicated scheme can just use exclusively COMP for everything.

I mean right now you pretty much can, you should just make custom microcontrollers like mine, which is just a composite write on off/number or comp read on off/number. It makes it so that you can swap types of logic whenever you want.

@@comradecheese6992 except you still have to make a huge MC somewhere (or a bunch of little ones) to convert those COMPs into analog points to send/receive to non-COMP parts. For example, let's say you have an instrument panel with a grid of buttons to control 8 individual lights (or groups of lights) on your vehicle. The IP takes COMP in/out, but the lights all need analog boolean controls. As such, you have to create an MC with at least 9 points (so a 3x3 minimum) to do that (1xCOMP IN, 8xON/OFF OUT). If the lights could accept COMP directly, you could do the same and a lot more with a single MC of size 1x2 using different channels. The issue becomes a lot clearer when you throw in devices that need both in and out signals, and especially when number nodes are added to the mix, too. Look at the size of MrNJ's modular engine controllers. They would simply be 1x2 if you didn't need to break out all of the boolean and numbers for the engine to work. Maybe that's got something to do with why the devs haven't switched over to COMP completely. It would make MCs larger than 1x2 extremely rare and more or less eliminate that aspect of their design.

@@MrNJersey By using a deprecated radar to find targets and a new phalanx ("10km") to guide my guns in a tight 10° by 10° area, I have 1km range. Put another way, the new radars have slightly more range than the old ones, provided your target is within 1° of where it's pointing.

I expect it will need some tuning, but I can see how it would keep the game balanced when combat is more developed. A small fire-control radar should be very limited and require intelligence to keep the narrow beam on the target. You could combine that with a large search radar on a warship, but the weight and power requirements should make that infeasible on a fighter, as is the case in real life.

Fairly sure these are still missing bits, the update actually states you can change the pitch, but there's no method for that. We might have to wait for the dlc for it to be any good.

@@mobgoblin9023 I do agree. I like the 8 contacts thing, I hate that it remembers the contacts. I don't mind preprocessing contact data before I send it to my screen writer, that's just a bit of fun. I don't like that I just give it power and it "works". Make me have to point it in the right direction with pivots myself. Then I can control the speed. I also don't like how small the detection ranges are when you have any fov at all. Have it provide no direction data from the fov instead, and provide only distance and some value for size. Then I have to point the bloody thing at a target and keep it on target with pivots. Grr.

Those new radars are so broken, my game won’t stop crashing after this update, and their range is just ridiculous. Definitely deserves a hotfix, because right now, they’re nothing but another deco block.

They are nice but they really need to add the ability to change FOV outside of the workbench. The fact that it affects the range now is a big deal and would be hugely beneficial to change the FOV for more view but less range or less view for more range. Also don't like how jittery it is, even when spotting your static plane you can see it spazzing out

That's something I've been wondering too. Theoretically, you could use an antenna to send data to and from the missile but even then you'd need to de-composite the data coming through and so far I can't see guided missiles being smaller than 3x3 wide. Maybe slightly janky looking 2x2 or a very ugly, not connected looking 1x1 if you had some long microcontrolers on them.

So, they removed the ability to detect signal strength in exchange for being able to detect up to 8 blips in a tick, but then the range/FOV calculation means it won't be scanning a big enough space for 8 targets? Am I missing something? Also, has anyone gotten the "Time Since Detection" field to work? I just get 0. I'm not trying to be too much of a downer, but if non-scripters wanted to configure the old radar, they just needed basic functions (modulus and pingpong) and keypads. If I want to both scan and sweep, I need 2+ radars, or to use pivots.

HARM missiles will be a fun build. Also, I forget if they have been talked about or not, but ECM pods would be very useful for jamming radar locks, at the steep cost of electricity and weight.

I wish the devs would put more features into different components, they often feel half-baked. Props have a setting that enables a variable input, but radars don't? Why? They usually say it's for simplicity but that doesn't explain why it cant be an option. We have a vanilla piece that converts composite data into a string of code, effectively compressing an absurd amount of channels into 1, yet very few things in the game use basic composite, let alone this feature I have never seen used by anyone.

Seconding this. If I make a pretty reasonable 1x1 missile with 4 fins on the front and back, 2 meters of the missile will be number nodes. Contrast this to: I write the 8 different fin values to a composite, which I wire to each fin, and tell each fin which channel to read.

Loved the video @MrNJersey! Could you use the new Radar parts to build something like the British Type 280 series Radars or their foreign contemporaries from The Second World War? Because building something like the S-class Destroyer HMS Saumarez, The Crown Colony-class, Fiji-group Light Cruiser HMS Jamaica, The Town-class, Edinburgh-Group Light Cruiser HMS Belfast (Which is still part of the Imperial War Museum, a role she has performed since 1971) or even the King George V-class Battleships like HMS Duke of York in Stormworks would be Awesome! Funny how I named the more famous Ships of the Royal Navy that were at the Battle of North Cape as examples LMAO!

I am just disappointed, that now radars are extremely short range, and there is nothing that you can do with it. Even change it's FOV during the process. Hope they will change radars a bit, cause at speeds 600km/h 200m is nothing, and it is just 10x10deg FOV for small radar. And it is no reason to launch Air-to-air missile in 200m to your target, am I wrong? When they told, that they'd change radars, I hoped, that they will increase it's efficiency, 'cause even last radars were extremely huge for funny distance, but now we've a real degradation in distance. We have 3x3 radar for example, for searching air targets, and I want to have 1deg FOV hotlrizontally, and 45deg FOV vertically, and from 10km there only 1500m will be left. WTF
