Glad you guys reviewed this song! It's a classic from the late 90s/early 00s. I remember this being a popular song played on the radio often.

I remember when I worked at Starbucks, Joni Mitchell made a playlist CD that we sold called "Artist's Choice" with her favorite songs on it. Two of the songs she picked were her own songs, and then there were like fifteen songs that were all very old, like classical and big band. And then finally, this song closed out her playlist with a comment from her saying something to the effect of "This funky white guy rocks- the first song to make me turn up the radio in decades." And you know Joni Mitchell never lies.

THE MORE YOU KNOW: The keyboard player for the New Radicals (if you watch the right side of the screen, you get a glimpse of her every so often) is Danielle Brisebois. Probably not known to many, but Gen-Xer tv fans might recognize her as Stephanie, the young girl that moves in with Archie & Edith Bunker in “All in the Family”. She went on to co-star in “Archie Bunker’s Place,” and several episodes of the prime time soap opera “Knots Landing”. After about 10 years of acting (highlighted with a couple of appearances on “Battle of the Network Stars”) she turned to music. In addition to playing with the New Radicals, she wrote several hit songs and has continued to work with Gregg Alexander long after the Radicals disbanded.

I LOVE this song! 1998 was like an oasis for me in a sea of blackness on either side of that year, and this song honestly takes me back to that very special year. I was at art school, and i loved every minute of it. I remember making friends with a girl called Libby, and she and I would sing to the songs on the radio as we went wild with the paints, and this song was one of our favourites! We would have the windows to the art room wide open, with the sun blazing outside. Such great times! I lost touch with her just a couple of years later, and when I hear this song, I always think of her and the wonderful summer we had on our art course ❤

I had a boyfriend who was so into the New Radicals. He leant me his cd of 'Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too' when I went on holiday and I became completely obsessed. They really remind me of the early 00's and living in London and having no real responsibilities. They may not have produced much music as a group, but Greg Alexander went on to write for loads of different artists. One of his biggest hits is 'Murder on the Dancefloor' sung by Sophie Ellis Bextor.

Gregg Alexander is a great songwriter, period. He also wrote a bunch of very successful songs for other artists (many of them European, but I'm sure you have heard some of them).

This was one of their hits. Their second single they released is really good, but they broke up right after they released it. It later appeared in the movie "A Walk To Remember" years after. They only released one album though. The singer went on to write music for other artists behind the scenes. He even won a grammy as a co-writer later in his career. Pretty interesting.

I believe this mall was Santa Monica Place mall, it's now been revamped into a high end "outdoor shops" mall. But poor 3rd street promenade where the mall is at has become deserted and abandoned.
