I’ve followed you for a while and I’ll be honest, I never watched your extreme horror content. I just knew it wasn’t for me. But I do enjoy seeing the journey/growth you’ve experienced recently. Thank you for always being so transparent with us. I’m personally happier to see your content won’t include extreme horror anymore but more importantly, I’m glad for YOU and the choices you’ve made to take care of yourself.❤️❤️

Makes a ton of sense about how the way we feel about ourselves as women impacts our consumption of media- I definitely used to read a lot more graphic works and that is not for me any more. I think it definitely reflects a lot about the stage of life you are in and how you view yourself and the world

You’re such a beautiful and compassionate person, I love that you are so open and vulnerable with us, it validates parts of me for some reason. You may have gotten popular from extreme horror but that doesn’t mean you have to stay reading those books, it’s okay for you to step away from the genre and pick up better books that you’ll enjoy. Thank you for being so real with us 🩵🩵

It's really validating to hear that other people had a similar experience reading that extreme horror. It was difficult to get through not because of the horror or gore, which I usually love, but because the brutal scenes often felt pointless. I fluffed up my rating because of who the author is, and I thought maybe I was missing something. Thank you for talking about this ❤

Allie is always so thoughtful, and I love listening to her commentary. I used to consume a lot of unfortunate and outright dangerous media when I was a teenager, which I think was a way of punishing myself for the things I disliked about myself.

I change ratings all the time! Sometimes I really enjoy a book, then get a perspective of how it hurt someone, and I re-rate it or remove the rating and leave a note. Also if you can only write 1 type of portrayal of women, you aren't a very good writer...

Thank you for being open, honest and vulnerable in your videos. I think you are an absolute queen. It says a lot about you as a person and your growth to admit your thoughts or feelings have changed re reviews based on things you have learnt since etc. it is very courageous to be so open about your thoughts, especially after the absolute vulgar abusive shit you have had to deal with from some people in the book community. Thanks again for another excellent vlog xx

I was always fine with extreme horror until it was disturbing and horrific towards women --- and then until the authors of it went insane and attacked, bullied, and targeted women that spoke against their books. there's nothing more telling of someone's character than when they are told "it's terrible the way you treat women in your book" and they leap directly to attacking and attempting to humiliate the reviewer. horror can be fun and even meaningful, but authors that focus on hurting women both fictional and real make it not so.

Very interesting and open discussion! Thank you! I read that book because of your recommendations - I remember pulling away from horror after reading that book because it was too much for me. So hearing you break down extreme horror and your thoughts was super helpful- might need to give horror another try after hearing you talk. Can I ask- didn’t you share that the author was a friend? I would love for you to make a new horror book recommendation video for books that do horror the right way!!

Extreme horror is still okay, if you’re very diligent and careful about the ones you pick. I think there can be a surrealist, sensitive approach-but so much is sloppy and misogynistic, that it can be hard to find.

I've been meaning to message you as you are someone vocal about Extreme Horror and the bullshit around it, but were you aware of the two extreme horror authors (Otis Bateman and Stephen Cooper) who were involved in harassing women and predatory behavior in all forms (including sexually) as well as sending nudes of said women back and forth between each other, mocking a rape victim, and no idea what else. But legal action has been taken against them. I've yet to hear anyone talk about it on KZbin (hopefully out of respect for the victims). But one of the victims has been vocal on Facebook.

I love ya sweet girl and just today found you on IG! My girlfriends turned me onto Crossfire. (Late to the party), I’m 2/4 through and needed a pallet cleanser and started the new Riley Sager book on Audible. I also have a 6 hour road trip tomorrow so taking “The Last Time I Lied”. Didn’t plan for a Riley weekend haha, it just lined up with his new release. This is going to sound ridiculous, but I’ve been a “reader” for 20 ish years (I’m 41). I have no idea what a horror is vs thriller. Is that bad? I just love books. I love all and any, except fantasy, however i’ve never read any. Ok that was a tangent. I’m proud of you for making this video!! ❤thx for sharing your love of books with us, please never stop!!

This was probably the most realistic Riley Sager book that he's ever written. It really highlighted the struggles of guys, especially back in the early 90s... and it had a positive/realistic view of male friendship. It had a certain sadness and depth that was deeper and more intense... but I'm also a gay male so that could be why this book spoke to me.

Really loved this vid but especially your extreme horror discussion. i recently read one that i gave five stars and one that i gave one star, and i'm honestly trying to figure out my own relationship with the genre. the question of "what did i like about it" i think is so important and ive caught myself giving high ratings to some pretty heinous shit (and surprise surprise the authors turned out to be scumbags). i think ive desensitized myself to a lot in the name of "loving horror" and its something i think i need to reevaluate. thank you for talking about this ❤❤❤

Personally, I LOVED Middle of the Night. ❤ I read that book as an ARC a couple months ago and I still think about it almost every day. I loved how emotional and dramatic this book is and I actually thought it was refreshing to read a not-so-twisty Riley Sager novel. Sometimes there are so many twists in his books that I just can't follow! Not Middle of the Night, and I loved that! Also, the ending made me sob like a spoilt little kid. 😅 It is now my second favourite RS novel. And honestly? If it were up to me, RS would only write male main characters from now on.

I completely agree. This was my favorite RS book. It had early Stephen King vibes. I was completely invested in the characters, and the other RS books are typically much more plot driven. Read it in two days. I hope he keeps going in this more thoughtful direction.

I have a hard time with extreme horror and appreciate your thoughts on it (I'm also a new subscriber, hi!). I forget what book it was but I read a popular book where women are tortured and raped and as someone who was in an abusive relationship myself I can't understand how anyone could enjoy those kinds of books. Although I did read A Little Life and have very conflicting feelings about that one which can be considered torture porn though it's not horror. IYKYK.

I’m very excited to pick up Middle of the night and Dark corners based on your reviews . On another I adore your videos and have since I discovered your channel quite early on. But I will admit I really struggled and actively avoided the extreme horror videos simply because I knew it wasn’t for me and as someone who has also previously seeked out misogynistic vitriol to punish myself, I caught on that may have been the case for you as well. I’m so glad you grown and are able to reflect. It shows a phenomenal strength of character and introspection. 💙🤍
