Heiligengeistfeld, is the name of a section of Hamburg. The building is still standing today on the northern part of large open area. It's a massive bldg. I visited there in 1987 when I was stationed in Frankfurt. Heiligengeistfeld translation is Holy Ghost Field.

The area is named after a medieval convent hospital (The Hospital of the Holy Spirit). It was demolished in 1616 when new city fortifications were built.

It is not a section of Hamburg, it is just a space where we have fun fair three times a year "Dom". This location is west of the city center. We have a second flack tower which is in the south. Both should cover attacks to the harbour and the city center, from plains comming from the west or the south.

Larry mentioned the geographical location of the first shown Flak Tower, Heiligengeistfeld. Its actually three words that are spoken together - Heiligen Geist Feld and means Holyghostfield or in better english Field of the Holy Ghost.

Gotta add to that. Its named after the Hospital zum Heiligen Geist, or hospital of the holy ghost, which was established in the early 13th century and still exists today, even though not in its original location. The heiligengeistfeld used to be part of the original hospitals estate. I live about 10km away from it

I would really love to see you build the Heiligengeistfeld Flak Tower. It is actually in Hamburg and still exists today. During the Hamburg Raids in July/August 1943, including the infamous firestorm raid in the night of July 27/28 which killed 40,000 people, up to 25,000 people found safety in the tower.

Very nice but they are like a model aircraft kit which only had the cockpit canopy in the box. The interesting part of a turret reaches down at least five decks and it all turns as one. These are just the gun houses not the turrets.

Seen the Hamburg FLAK tower on line as it is today on line and GOOGLE Earth. According to some reports it's going to be a hotel with pyramid roof garden. The actual model I've just bought has extra parts and is bigger than the Berlin version. The main reason I bought this model was to build a Command bastion for GW's Titanicus terrain set. Instead of the 120mm guns, they're replaced with Macro cannons from the GW accessories kit. Also on top will be another building from the terrain kits, making it even higher.

I build warships exclusively but I’ll buy this anyway. It’s so uncommon to see a model building that I feel like their efforts should be rewarded anyway. Plus there is architecture in many countries I’d be interested in, looking a you England and Austria👀. Besides, I can put it near my ships and use it to help people put in perspective the sheer enormity that is a late war battleship/carrier.

Hello from England Andy and everone. Heiligengeistfeld means Holy Gost Field, it is in Hamburg. I wrote a short article on Flak Towers then and now on Quora if you are interested, look for the question "Could the WW2 bunkers and defences be reused if war happens?" on there. That tower is in use today for living in and businesses.

The Flaktower "Heiligengeistfeld" is located in Hamburg. You can actually visit this one from the outside. Indors, are a music store. So you can see a bit of the structure from the inside The Pronounciation was quite good (I'm german) with a short break (-) it would be: Heiligen-Geist-Feld (Holyghostfield)

Iam a big model ship enthusiast, busy completing 1/350 tamiya King George v. Not sure about these Large scale naval turrets through- from the ones shown most of the outside detail is already moulded on and the instructions are showing very basic assembly instructions. Can there be much build satisfaction to these? Big chance missed by manufacturer to include turret interiors- on such a large scale they cry out for that? A turret roof that clips off to reveal the interior or one side of the turret in clear see through plastic would have been great and turret entry doors that open. Thanks for the intro to these new products but I would battle with interest factor on the naval turrets.

That five inch thirty eight turret kit in 1/35 scale certainly seem like a possibility for interior detailing as is done for various 1/35 scale tanks? (F.Y.I. IIRC, there are a few of the towers still standing in Berlin and Vienna... mostly, they are barricaded shut, in order to keep the curious from getting injured inside. The towers that still stand are considered to be just too difficult to demolish, and too politically sensitive to convert into museums according to my sources. Rather grotesque reminders of bad times in the past.
@jilthunder2276
@jilthunder2276 3 жыл бұрын
@@chemech The ones in Berlin all are demolished; of the big flak tower on the "Humboldthain", you still can see one third, or half; the rest crumbled and was artificially overgrown. I know of one round shaped flak tower in Vienna; it is large, but not as large as the rectangular shaped ones in Germany. Best regards, Jens

Ask Takom to release a 1/350 kit of the USS Portland, or HMS Illustrious or Victorious. USS Indianapolis is famous for being sunk. Her sister ship, USS Portland served valiantly throughout the war, took severe damage and survived to fight again. As for the British carriers...well, Trumpeter has released the Ark Royal (again famous for being sunk but after helping to bring the Bismarck to its doom). The Illustrious class carriers were notable for their ability to withstand battle damage that would well have put paid to a Yorktown or even an Essex class vessel.

The 1/35 scale warship gunturrets has a good place to show people how the overhyped german heavy panzers were laughing stocks in real life. And the german heavy panzer units have the opportunity to feel it when Rodney arrived in Normandy and with a few shells from 25 km wrecked a whole abteilung in a metter of minutes. Her artillery systems (and all naval artillery systems in the metter of fact) were far superior in every respect compared to any land field artillery systems. BTW: is there anybody who still deny that neonazism is not existing? Just look at these new releases. Only two american between a dozen WWII german.

Is it possible that the reason there are more German than American kits being released is that ... 1. The Nazis did it or 2. The World is bigger than the US 3. German kit is prettier than US kit 4. People who like American kit keep getting called Nazis for being patriotic? Funny old world, ain't it?

Egyenes, that really is a dumb post. The 88mm or higher armed panzers were killing machines and rightly greatly feared. Also, you'll have a hard time hitting a Tiger on the Eastern front with a Mark 38 turret...
@egyeneskifli7808
@egyeneskifli7808 3 жыл бұрын
@@xRepoUKx My point: everybody think that those tank guns were the pinnacle of artillery technology. Nope, they were far away from it. Even the WWI battleship artillery systems were superior to them. Tanks were unable to hit anything from other then full stop, even if that thing was 1-200 m away. Battleship artillery optimized for high speed engagements, where all the participants constantly moving, rocking, faster then any tank of their time. And they still can hit 1-200 m long and 35 m wide targets from 25-30 km. Ground artillery can't achieved this before the 1970s with stationary platforms and targets. The firecontrol systems of the american battleships in WWII was so far ahead of their time, when in the 1980s they reactivated the Iowa-class they decided to keep them. Simply because any then existing modern firecontrol systems were worse then the WWII naval gunnery ones. If they want to do better they whould need to shove a supercomputer to somewhere on the ship, and nothing guaranteed that it will perform in those conditions. And the Mk 1 firecontrol computer was an electro-mechanical, analogue computer. In the age of naval guns, naval artillery were the undisputed king of any kind of artillery. Those schweres panzer abteilungs went to Normandie in their mind that they are invulnerable to anything the western allies can throw on them. Well, when the two worlds collided, the Tigers were only supporting actors, or played even lesser roles in that movie. You think Hitler daydreamed the Ratte for nothing? Those thing would use the decommissioned turrets from the Scharnhorst and the Gneisenau. You are right, there were no Mk 38 turrets in the russian front. But they had heavy artillery pieces made from 8" cruiser guns. And later they even built some 16" and 16.1" SPGs, those used guns from abandoned battleship projects.

@@I_Don_t_want_a_handle 2. Yes, and the world is much, much bigger then Germany ever was. Still 70% of the model kits are WWII german ones. You can call it overrepresentation. 3. Not necesseraly. 4. What has it done with patriotism? Most of the germans still feel the collective guilt about WWII and the nazi regime. The WWII model kits have one of the smallest markets in Germany. BTW: german tank technology was so advanced, that nothing were carry over by others. Their tanks were a collection of technological deadends.
