Not reimagining (or as I'd say ruining) it as an SUV is the best decision on a car with so many positives and I'd say this is my new top contender for my next car

With that people can be convinced to buy the iconic legendary electric Renault 5. Basically Renault needs to find a way to go around an EV competition where you can't beat Chinese EVs in price, equipment, god knows what... bringing back legendary models, modernise and electrifying them is something that Chinese car companies can literally cannot do. Basically, if you cannot go through, go around it! New Renault 5 is basically going around such competition. So I think it's a good idea to bring the new car like this.

Very exciting that we're going to see a car that is simultaneously an EV and quirky, that will be readily affordable for the masses. I don't think this will meet my particular needs, but it's such a huge step in the right direction for the average driver that it should be a real game-changer for the car market.

Any chance at all we'll see these in North America? The Chevy Bolt was cancelled (it may be re- released later as an up-sized crossover, like everything else) and with it, compact, reasonably priced EVs were cancelled in NA too. Trade wars mean no Chinese cars for us. That leaves European compact EVs as our only hope, but EU automakers won't sell them here because they assume we don't want them

I don't think you'd buy this in preference to a Tesla, you'd buy it as a 2nd car to a Tesla. A Model 3 LR AWD (red, obviously), or maybe a Y, to drive to your place in Provence, the Renault 5 (looks great in yellow) as your UK runaround.

Petrol would be a lot slower. This goes 0-60 mph in 3.6s whereas the old Renault 5 Turbo is 6.9s which is more than twice as slow.

93mph is all that is needed. It's far above the speed limit in every country except Germany. What's the point of a car being able to do a speed that you will never do unless you want to get banned. As for the maths, go on then, show us the numbers - you have obviously worked it out.

It's equally boxy but the Ioniq 5 is a far larger car. Written from a passenger seat of a Ioniq 5. 😊

@kingphiltheill Ah I see, perhaps because they share the similarities in boxy design I thought they would fit in the same segment. But I guess the R5 is more like a smaller hatch while the Ioniq 5 is a bigger hatch/crossover then.

@@someone............. The Ioniq is in fact larger in every dimension in comparison to a VW Golf. With a little bit of distance you don't see it at first. But when you approach the car it's quite a substantial thing. The R5 seems to compete with smaller cars like a Polo or Corsa.
