I started my SS at 62 1/2, my wife who is 20 months younger than me started at 62. With my pension for working 25+ years we’re doing just fine.That was over 3 years ago & we never looked back. Haven't touched our investments other than to travel. I had two brothers die of cancer 3 years apart. One died at 62 & never drew a dime of his SS. The other died at at 65 & drew 10 months. Let's be honest here, the reason the Government is offering you a bigger payday at 70 is because they're banking on you not making it!

There are millions of people who are 65 when they got here and they are entitled to collecting SSI, and SSA based on disability or age even though they never paid a dime into it. Furthermore, their sons or daughters can get In-Home-Support-Service money by claiming that their parents are ill and needed them to be home. In a decade the vast majority of baby boomers drawing on Social Security will be dead so moving through the decade towards that reality less SS will be drawn every year. It would help dramatically if wealthy individuals and corporations actually paid taxes and contributed to SS in amounts commensurate with their wealth relative to those people who will rely in it to live after they have spent their lives and money making the wealthy - wealthy. I wonder if the new dates for insolvency are related the how many older people died of COVID thus reducing the payouts on SS and MEDICARE. Based on government census figures the reduction on payouts is in the billions annually. (There is also an error, sort of, in the reporting calling Social Security an "entitlement" , yeah by definition is is an entitlement but because we paid directly into the SS fund the word entitlement does not feel appropriate.)

You want Soc Sec and Medicare funded properly, vote Blue. With a Democrat as President, and a Democrat-controlled Congress, many problems would be admirably solved, and these two programs would be properly funded. Why do so many dependent upon Soc Sec and receiving Medicare vote for republicans who want to do away with both programs? Giving aid to other countries isn’t the problem. What does report makes clear is that the government needs to keep their sticky little fingers out of the social security part, raise taxes on the corporations and the wealthy; cut the medical benefits, they no longer need paid vacation time, because they earn 174,000 a tear to start with. About time the politician started paying their own way along with the rich and the corporations.

Don't we all know by now that there is never a solvency issue regarding Social Security or Medicare, and for that matter the US government as a whole. The government can print money people. It does not need to raise money or borrow from any one to meet any payment obligation. The only issue there ever was or is, is whether there will be enough resources to meet the demand that the money represents. So the main issue is that there is to little resource to meet the demand produced by the new money issued thereby creating the possibility of inflation. So the main concern is inflation not insolvency and inflation can be dealt with by creating an incentive to produce more or through our tax system which will take the excess dollars out of the system. With respect to Social Security and Medicare the main issue is will we have the necessary resources available to meet the demand of the money created (more doctors, medical devices, hospitals and related infrastructure). The main reason for the social security and medicare payroll tax is to redirect resources from the working population to those who require the retirees and those in medical need. The reality is that this spending and tax system we have is the government's tool to redirect resources and thereby control inflation, and is not in any way a financing operation. The US government does not now nor have they ever needed our money. It was the government's money to begin with and it enters the economy only when the government spends. Although the Social Security and Medicare systems are set up to look like we are all paying into some sort of trust fund to be paid out later, the reality is that this is just a bookkeeping exercise to track who gets what out of these entitlements. There is no actual money being saved to run out of or create an insolvency issue. The US government can always decide to payout social security and medical bills, or not depending on the politics of the times.

I took my Social Security at 62 because I had no income after being laid off. The government takes back a third of your total monthly income! You're penalized for taking it early! What A racket! I lost hundreds of dollars per month on that BS! 👎 As Always America And Americans Are LAST!

If the money put aside for social security were only spent on social security, we would be fine. Its called a trust fund for a reason, and the government has lost our trust that they will manage our retirement funds adequately, and not for other perposes.

Easy solution, raise the ceiling on annual earning subject to social security taxes. It should not be limited to $168,000.
