Guys, please note this is still in Beta! Studio 397 greatly appreciates your help if you have issues whether that is with VR or with the game itself. Therefore please, if you have a problem. Get your trace logs from the moment game-running when you encountered the issues and save these trace logs. Then please go to the rFactor 2 discord channel: discord.gg/CruX93K And post the issue (short description) including the trace-log in the channel #online-bug-reports

I actually really like the hidden elo. Just displaying what rank you are ie bronze, silver etc gives it a bit more of an esports feels similar to CSGO, Valorant etc.

We had more than 120 participants in more than 4 races yesterday's evening and appart from.results not getting processed in one occasion I saw no technical fault whatsoever. This is much more stable

Thank Jesus we have this. Rfactor2 is the sim I main. It's the best and I have played them all for 100's of hours.

I like that ELO is some what hidden. I feel people judge other drivers by their rating in sims like iRacing. It creates a "I'm better than you" mentality. I prefer to judge someones racing by the performance on track when racing them.

I very much agree with this too. The hidden elo just does not create this sort of "natural" judgement when comparing specific numbers. So having the ranks is absolutely fine IMO

Having the elo hidden and given a category is better overall I think. I feel it is less stress when racing as I have had friends that would refuse to do a particular race in other games because they didn't want to lose rating. In other games where a certain position may lose you rating and see that happening straight away, here that same position may mean you are still within the range for say Bronze 1. The system is pretty similar to how other online competitive games work like League of Legends and such.

I agree with you. I think the rank or range of rank takes away the psychological threat of seing a minus in front of a changing number and therefore takes away the pressure to succeed

I agree with you. People measure their ePenis against others, and as a recent video by DaveCam pointed out, people don't join certain races if they think it may negatively effect their ePenis rating. Irs all about racing and having fun, the ePenis rating is purely there for match making. SR is.much more important IMO

Mate I'm overwhelmed. Thank you for the lovely words. I think many people on S397 and MSG have done their jobs and I really hope they can fix the small issues soon. All my videos and information on it will go for nothing if this dies...

@@MichiHoyer i actually bought rf2 some years ago (you were in an f2 or f3 league back then) this system in its infancy looks to be something that might at least make iracing make the much needed changes that it requires im loving that s397 and honestly im suprised im praising MSG they decided to actually compete now i might actually have to learn to road race.... (league hunting i go!)

I've done one race, I love it. I don't spend a lot of time these days racing online but the race I did was genuinely intense and everyone was very fair

I expect hidden ELO to be less stressful for me (just a personal experience kind of thing, like % in smartphone battery 😉). With this, rF2 is among the best overall UI already. Fast, clean, reliable (?)! Great job S397!

I think the real reliability is a bit early to say still, but I think even despite this is a beta system, I think it does a good job indeed.

Hi Michi, can you tell me why the beginners event are open for anybody? Ik my last race the where 15 drivers, 3 with Gold en 7 with silver ranking... A win or good result is almost impossible for a real rookie! I think it's fair that people race against their own level drivers.

I think that has to do with the way the system works. With just 15 driver registered it only creates 1 single split, despite the diffrent level of drivers though. However, when you have more people registered then the system will create splits according to your rating. Also I think i am a guy with one of highest Driver Rank rarings and i am just at Silver I What you are seeing in gold is people's Safety Rank I assume.

@@MichiHoyer Thank you for the reply, I appreciate that! There were 3 splits for that race, more than 50 people. Yes I am talking about Gold Safety Rank. My choice of joining a server was automatic so the system can rank the drivers. It;s look like that it didn"t work well for this race. I think ( that's my humble opinion ) it's fair that when you reached Silver or Gold that people race in that classes and not in the beginners series anymore. For entering the Intermediate and Gold classes you need the silver en Gold Safety rank, that's what the system ask for joining, driver rank does;t matter. I agree you are a guy that deserved a high Driver Rank end Safety Rank for your skills and speed and clean racing!!

Thank you for the kind words mate! Much appreciating the lovely words! However, the servers are asking you to have Silver or Gold Safety Rank for being eligible to race. Once registered it (should) sort the drivers into divisons - highest X / all drivers go to split 1 then the same size to split 2 and then 3 and so on . That split up is based on the Driver Rank not the Safety Rank tho

@@MichiHoyer I had only tried the practice server several times and still have to get used to my new racing setup. But for me this is the best simulator in my opinion. And the experience in the Practice Server mostly worked very well. Except a few times, but it's a beta and we have to be more patient.

The safety rating in iracing is a vulnerability easy to exploit by not racing, but just driving slow like a grandma, some even dont do the qualifying run to avoid crashes or slipouts. But then when you get out of rookies with a tanked irating, sht becomes suddenly serious and you have to get a good position or lose points, something u've totally not trained for.

I think same happens here though. Although I think there is less impact on the SR overall, as the rF2 system allows way more lenience on the calculation for safety ratings

As a sometime chess player also, I'm quite used to ELO as a measure of performance and would prefer to see it. Maybe there could be a way to publish it without making it so prominent. But not a deal-breaker by any means.

Yeah as much as I really like the ranking system to be "intransparent" I wanna call it even, as much I would still appreciate to have a quantification on what a bonk has caused or what a clean lap has given you as a bonus etc etc.

You need to pay for the short period server from rFactor 2 yes. However, you are still able to.host your dedicated server for free. It all depends how you want to go for it. For setting up your own server you find a tutorial on my channel

Hi Michi, I installed the release candidate earlier and wanted to take part in the competition servers. Unfortunately, I get a timeout error message on every server. This is not the case on the normal servers. Do you know what the reason could be?

It's probably due to them hitting their AWS limits. It's a known issue. If you register for the race, you should be able to get in.

@CossiFreak I think this afternoon they were hitting their capacity limits in the server architecture. I think that should be fixed soon.

What do you exactly mean. You need to start rFactor 2 and then go to the online section. In the top right corner you may need to create an account on race control :)

Hi all, thanks for the informative video Michi, i just want to ask anyone that may know about the issue with VR when trying to join the online practice ( timed out to session ). I've tried posting it on their discord server but nothing came back. the second thing i wanted to ask is, will they be introducing a system for when you want to join but have not got the Track, that the sim will give you the option to download it for the Practice/race....

It's annoying. I tried it, and looks to have no news, only problems, which in rFactor 2, has much as that makes me sad, let's face it, it's normal. First I tried to get to a novice session, with the USF17 at Mores. I have both contents, but could never get to the server, with the message 'missing content'. Then, the competition changed to the BMW M2 at Lime Rock Park. I joined the server, but could never get to the car and on track. One guy was on the server when I joined, was also not able to get on track and eventually left. Another guy joined as I was there, after a while also did not go on track and also left. And this is it. It's always a problem, annoying. I really like the physics of the sim but something here simply doesn't work.

I am afraid that you are very unlucky in this regard. I have done 5 races in total there now. Only once, the result did not get processed correctly. therefore giving us no ratings and rankins impact. Any other race started and went absolutely flawless. There is 2 known issues. One is the practice servers seem to be not working well also latency wise when they get to full and the other one that the races dont start if more than 10 splits are created

What do you mean the previous release does not work? Currently it does. VEC is racing on 1133 which is old release. New rF2 online is on 1134

Mitchi have you had any problems being able to join some races? I don't know why but every time I register for a race and try to join practice for the race, a new screen pops up saying that I can't join the server. It gives me two choices, go back to the main menu, or close rfactor 2. I have tried restarting the game etc, but it's not working. Very disappointed so far.

It is a known issue to the devs, practice servers are filling up too quickly so you get a timeout, the actual race session still works so you can still register for them.

I've had that too. I just kept trying and then got in after a few attempts. I wonder whether it's just practice servers filling up quickly as there are a hundred or so people trying to get in at the same time.

Signed up but accidentally put in wrong email address for verification, now when I try to update my info nothing saves so not receiving a verification email…I know it’s in beta but any ideas of a work round anyone? As usual rf2 driving me up the wall😂
