NEW Ridgid SubCompact Performance Tested and it's Not What I Expected WOW. RIDGID Power tools announced on 04/24/2020 it's new 18-Volt Sub-Compact Lithium-Ion Brushless tool lineup. I purchased the 2pc drill and driver set the following day with my own money at The Home Depot. The new RIDGID Sub-Compact tools are compact 18v tools and offer the lightest weight design they have today.
We will use the drill and a step bit from Harbor Freight and attempt to drill through a 1/2" thick steel structural H-Beam as well as use spade bits and speed bores in 5/8, 3/4, and 1"
We will put the impact driver to the ultimate test on removing lug nuts on a vehicle torqued to 75, 100, and even 125 ft-lbs. If it can handle removal with a hex sock adaptor at 100 and even 125 ft-lbs I'll be really impressed as that is some pretty awesome power and nut-busting torque on a tool that is rated at 1800 in-lbs or @ 150 ft-lbs from the manufacturer.
As with all Ridgid cordless power tools, the new 18V SubCompact line will be available exclusively at Home Depot. I am really excited about the subcompact class of tools. SubCompact means smaller and lighter tools and after watching this video you can see that they are strong enough to meet even some of the most demanding needs as I feel I put them through some pretty heavy-duty tasks. The impact would be a good matchup, but I think the DCD996 drill torque ratings are at least 1.5x or more than the Ridgid. We should do a livestream together some evening and talk about tools. Shoot me an email and maybe we can line something up if ur interested in the future✌️

Make sure and turn your keyless chuck a half turn counter clockwise to lock it. That way your keyless chuck doesn’t loosen up after longer uses. Most keyless chucks say that on the chuck it’s self just hard to see. Thanks for the review

Like the torgue wrench also. Really like the Ridgid 18 volt tools and you can't beat the lifetime warranty, just make sure you register with Ridgid within nineties days of purchase. The warranty includes everything 'including batteries' when you buy tool kits.

I have a 1/4” impact from Rigid. I’ve charged the 6ah battery once in the year I’ve owned it...seriously...hasn’t needed to be recharged yet and still going strong. Now I don’t’ think use it daily but I’ve swapped wheels a few times on my tuck and my wife’s car. Not to mention I’ve put together some docks with big old lag screws and it hasn’t slowed.

Good choice going with Ridgid Phani K. Make sure you register your kit within the first 30-90 days so you get the Lifetime Service Agreement on the set. I can tell you that the Ridgid ones are more powerful and responsive than the newer Ryobi HP compacts there were releases about 2-3 months ago. Ridgid provides a great value tool👍

Bought the Ridgid Subcompact 3/8" and it is very impressive. With a 3/8 to hex impact rated adapter their is no need for an impact driver. Or an 1/2" impact wrench with an impact rated 3/8 to 1/2 adapter.

Excellent review. I will keep my eyes open for a good sale on these new subcompacts. I moved into the Ridgid line 5 years ago when I was shopping for replacements (for the 3rd or 4th time) for batteries for my old Milwaukee 12V drills. Upon discovering that Ridgid had an LSA that even covered batteries (if purchased in some kind of authorized combo, as I'm sure you know), it became just about my sole power tool (even if not battery operated). Given the cost (and short relative life) of the Milwaukee batteries, and their high cost, I just threw out the old drills and started fresh. Now my tool area looks like the Ridgid section of a HomeDepot. My only dislike is their registration process, which in almost every case (and that's well over a dozen times) required me to waste time following up with Ridgid's CS, even though every registered tool was purchased at HomeDepot (and the receipt was uploaded by me at the time of registration). It's quite frustrating that their registration process is so flawed, but the LSA makes up for it in the long run. Hopefully it doesn't spill over to their warranty claims (as to which I've been fortunate enough not to need so far). As an aside, I needed a portable air compressor a while ago, and Ridgid didn't have anything that met my needs, so I bought a Ryobi 18V compressor and got an adapter on eBay that allowed me to use my Ridgid batteries seamlessly on Ryobi 18V tools, so I didn't have to waste money (and space) on non-lifetime warranted Ryobi batteries.

I almost went the adaptor route just because Ridgid doesn’t have any out door power equipment and batteries are the most expensive consumable in the equation. At least you can pick up a string trimmer or a few other really cool Ryobi things👍

The batteries are't warranted beyond 3 years, unfortunately, but you really don't want to go 18V on outdoor stuff unless you've got dozens of them. I go through about 6 fully charged 40V batteries on the day I work up the courage to tackle my outdoor jungle. And I'l talking blowers (2, one for each hand for better control and amazing power), weed wackers (3, each with different line or blades), chain saw, extended pole saws (2, 8' and 10'), hedge trimmer, edgers (2) and more. When I go in, I go "all in". If I could do it over, I might go the Ego (56V route, also no LSA), but the prices I paid a few years ago mostly using eBay was tooooo good to refuse. I've not seen deals like that on the Ryobi 40V line, however, in a long time.

Holy shit Batman... or Ridgid man like me. I have made a living using Ridgid tools for 15 yrs now. I have so old tools that the L.S.A. didn't exist. I have Makita, Dewalt, and other brands too, but not the full lineup. Glad to come across a video that runs my next purchase. I am not very happy with the new slim batteries however... They do not work under load as I am used to with my soon to be expiring battery pack. The Lifetime Service Agreement registration takes months for me to kick in, although I know the tool will last for a good while, while in it's in process. Good video man.

I got those pair, but I found that I was always hitting the fwd/rev switch when gripping it. Very annoying and I ended up returning it for the comparable Ryobi combo which didn't have that issue with my grip. Either way I do really like the subcompact lines and they can do most stuff and is just much easier to manage over the larger ones.

Nice review. Cons not octane tool. Battery pack uses the older obsolete cheaper lithium battery type (not newer lithium battery type in 3a octane pack). Tool with newer octane battery installed on them looks like a dumbbell attached . MSRP $199 combo price at HD now...wait till Xmas and the combo will probably be on sale for $150 or less ...and by then those that gave glowing reviews will be able to update the reviews as to whether the tools actually last!

Ridgid tools are great but I feel that TTI is putting more effort towards developing the pro-grade Milwaukee and consumer grade Ryobi One+. The future for Ridgid the middle man is uncertain. I wish TTI would have done to Ridgid what they are doing with the One+.

Loosening a torqued lug nut is what I’ve seen everyone has done... why don’t someone tighten a lug nut till the bit breaks then measure the torque it produced... I think it’s going to say how much torque it really puts out...

all these are made to max power in reverse. kinda like ir cars reverse gear is better then ur forward gear. there is no point measuring tighting power. difference is very small..

On the lugs the battery didn’t lose much maybe a bar or so. Keep in mind they are brand spanking new batteries and I probably shot each sequence 3 times and picked the one I like for the video. The paddle and speed bores are more taxing. That definitely dipped down two bars at a point.

Do you prefer the compact drill and impact driver compared to the Gen5x brushless version. I am purchasing my first drill and driver set and trying to compare the compact to the Gen 5x. Thanks

If you want the most power Gen 5x but typically you don’t need all that and the trade off is size and weight and what ever “features” you like best? Lighting, speed modes or even the bluetooth connectivity. They all sound nice and exciting but unless you will actually use them they just cost more money. I actually find myself using the smaller lighter tools more and if I’m going to build a deck or construct a shed I’m using a bigger tool and more batteries.

People are bitching about the price of this kit. I think its well worth the money and the price will only come down. You pay a premium to buy at launch.

I was too until I seen this review and I was huh they are worth the price as tough as they are, but $30 more bucks you can get m18 brushless kit.

Yes there is definitely a premium price to pay at launch and I think if it comes down in price around $159-179 that would be excellent. The Makita SubCompact CX200RB is really similar in size and goes for around $195-229.
