Awesome show. The robot is actually what hooked me. They had me when I saw the first moving lights in his face. Those moving lights actually have more possibilities than vocal or written communication to convey thoughts, ideas, and emotions. His sparse vocalization and subtle "eye" contact add to the mystery, and hooked me even more deeply.

Awesome new reboot. Enjoyed it so much. Dr Smith was very evil and well acted by Parker Posey. The episodes were high paced yet some were a little implausible such as ice freezing as fast as it did in episode 1, eels breaking into the Jupiters' fuel tanks to drink them dry or the refueling from small amounts of detritus from the cave. Many more too but I put the BS aside and enjoyed it for what it was. Can hardly wait for the next season.

I know I'm late to the party with this one, but given the scientific nature of the show, I surmise that the robot, while indeed having been created by an organic species at some point, is likely part of an entire race of robots. That binary star system is not a place life could easily inhabit, judging from how close the stars are positioned in the show, almost touching. The system in question is a that of a white dwarf and a (largely consumed) red giant. The planets surrounding those suns are either going to be too hot for any form of complex life to exist or too far away that they'd have seasons that last longer than our lives, (for example, since it's discovery in 1930, Pluto has yet to make a full trip around the Sun.) What I believe is that the robots purposefully left whatever planet they were created on and sought out such a star system. They are advanced enough that they could make full use of the immense energy coming from both the stars themselves and the gravitational waves they produce, like how dams utilise the natural flow of water to create power, but also because any planets formed around a system like that is gonna have some *crazy* elements which are only gonna get crazier once those starts collide. The robots are super intelligent, clearly. They know that when 2 massive stars collide, they either form an even larger star, or become a black hole. They likely calculated that this system would result in not only a bigger star, but one that will exceed the Chandrasekhar limit, igniting carbon fusion, increasing the energy output even further. This will result in what is a Type Ia supernova and this is why no biological life could live there anymore. Because even disregarding everything else, this type of supernova happens fast. Not fast in astrological time scales, but as in a couple of seconds fast. In order to mobilise an entire race to be able to escape a star exploding in about 2 or 3 seconds, you'd probably have to be a machine, to which time is not even a thing. Only a race of machines would be able to live in this system, calculate how long the stars have left to explode, and mobilise a system-wide evacuation from a star that's about to wipe out everything in the surrounding area in an instant.

The fact the robots killed of their creators and then tried to destroy alpha centuari when they finally made it is fucking cool. It was an awesome story and I’m glad there could be a possible spin off of will and the robots adventures. But finding out SAR (second alien robot) was the leader of a sort of rebellion gassing his masters and him killing them while using the engine as a bomb was really interesting adding new detail into the story. Oh yeah. Spoilers.
@dhoffman49946 жыл бұрын
276,000 mph is obviously really fast, but for space travel it's pretty whimpy. 670,616,629.4 mph is light speed. Just to get to light speed you need to go 2400+ times faster. Light speed to get to alpha Centauri takes around 4.6 years. At 276,000 the trip would take 11,178 years.
@Roboprogs6 жыл бұрын
Hmm. 276,000 miles per *second* though (accidental unit swap?) would be around 0.99 c, though, which gets you some time dilation, right? I still need to see the show. (edit: it was late, I was thinking 286K instead of 186K miles per second, which is about the speed of light, so I dunno what they meant, exactly)
@dhoffman49946 жыл бұрын
Roboprogs It's a great show. Since you have not seen it I'll try to not add any spoilers in my comments. However in Season one, Episode 9 a little less than halfway through the episode, Maureen Robinson, talking with one of her superiors states the speed at 276,000 MPH. You will see for yourself if you have the patience to watch all 10 episodes. Hope you do. I thought it was a great series. Peace.

Stumbled upon the new Lost in Space totally by accident while looking for a completely different show. It's taking a while to get used to the new "character" assignments...Maureen the scientist and NOT the house/spaceship wife, and John the Jarhead (Marine). Still have to get a better understanding of the family dynamics with a previous child custody order pending and a Judy being black. Also, I really like the multi-Jupiter ships and the Resolute pioneer mission concept. Good adaptation to Irwin Allen's original AND my favorite TV show as a kid, Lost in Space. Lot's to explore Will Robinson!!
@coachk80046 жыл бұрын
Robot got sucked thru wormhole too. Good take on a old story, redone well at least once. Like how Smith evolves and is Big Bad coming from odd angles. Not just prototypical evil! Delicious. Wish they would tone down the kids emo yho, too much waste like in last four Jurassic Park movies. Wish also there was more group effort in tasks, not Hollywood formula split up to get in danger...don't THEY have a locator tag like the chicken does? You have to suspend belief on some things but other show depth in writing. Robot should also use more morphing adaptability, not just be guy in a suit being filmed. Too one-ish dimensional, since they brought up the concept and we've had it since T-1000. Maybe they will go take out home planet, which should have happened in Aliens but didn't. Will Robot help them? Seem creators didn't include loyalty override...could be big mistake
@txlonghorn826 жыл бұрын
This may have already been shared, but the "stolen tech" concept is an element of the story taken from the comic of the 1990's, "Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Soul". It is used in the comic to explain where Earth got the technology (alien ship crashes on Earth) to plan and pull of a trip to another star system. It is also used to explain who Aolus 14 Umbra is and the motivation for Smith to destroy the Jupiter 2.

Won't say more than that to not drop spoilers. I do agree with all the sentiments that for a Navy Seal to not have access to weapons when exploring the unknown is a stupid premise. They have the capability to 3D print the, yet they won't!

Also the colors on their 'faces' are blue for calm? And red for attack mode I guess, and the binary star systems follows those colors. Likely showing polarity in how the aliens act (sort of like blue side opts for knowledge, wisdom and the red side opts for machinery and war) then they made these robots to carry out a common interest? Idk really, I just want to see season 2 so bad

The only reason the robot on the original series "developed a personality" was because the actor playing Dr. Smith wrote dialogue for it. The writers never had a plan to do anything with the robot in the overall storyline.

I loved the scene when the Robot was watching the other Robot about to attack will. The Robot snaps out of it, sees it going for the strike, and goes "Aw, Hell no!" then proceeds to beat the stuffing out of the bad Robot. Frankly, I think the Robot reminds me of the Vorlons in Babylon 5. They use Bio Machinery to create living ships and machines. I think the Robot maybe from a species that does this. Also the Robot has a degree of sentience independent of it's masters. This would explain why it defended Will in that scene. That and saying "Friends, Will Robinson" makes me think it has a mind of it's own somewhat.

We briefly saw an alien ship before the robots attacked the Jupiter 2. It could just be a second attack ship, whether part of the original attack or a second wave.

Dr. Smith and the robot made the original series in the 1st several episodes. As everyone knows, it was all downhill after the first season. Penny, and to a lesser extent Judy are the most interesting characters so far in this series. The two most important recurring storylines in the original series were the friendship between Will and the robot, and the conflict between Dr. Smith and Don. At least the seeds for these have been planted. I have some hope for season 2.

The eels were more like snakes, they were shown a few times moving on land. The Jupiter two landed in an ice burg that was at least partially liquid at the time. All the others were within a few kilometers of each other so it is possible (though highly improbable) that they could all get the worms.

@kirkdarling41206 жыл бұрын
Free Saxon, I was highly annoyed in the beginning, slightly mollified toward the end, as the women began to give some credit to the men. But it certainly was made clear \that the men didn't deserve credit, and it was the female prerogative to deign to give it.

i couldn't watch it past E6 yet, it was too gut wrenching in how this SJW feminist BS is shoven down my throat. The main antagonist, Dr. Smith. omfg i can't watch her abysmal acting...so one-dimensional and non-threatening. The Robinson father was supposed to be this bad ass military trained soldier - but he just sucks at whatever he does.... ? Basically anything out of Hollywood in the last few years is white men being complete asshats and/or jokes, while non white males might get some sort of recognition. But the true heroes are the females, they are better at basically everything. It's like a negative print of the real world ? Who are these movies and shows made for ?

That one robot landed was different from the robot who attacked the Resolute. Robot flashes back memories because they are kinda linked. Then the robot will always say "Danger" as he touched the part of his ship on the 1st episode. Then he saw everything what happen in space. Its about the engine. A war has begun. Just a thought.

Here we have colonists striking out into the mostly unknown and there is not a single weapon readily available except for what has to be 3-D printed? Typical Liberal Hollywood anti-2nd crowd...real stupid. The only reason I'm watching this series is because I'm 66 and remember fondly the original, goofy & silly Lost in Space and wanted to see what this new series was like. The original series had plenty of weapons available; it was only natural. But not in today's absurdly idiotic and mindless P.C. Society... ( and I don't mean personal computer..LOL ). It's like this saying: " When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.." If a live or die situation suddenly erupts around me, I will immediately protect myself and my loved ones and those near me, and not have to wait for minutes for the police to finally get here...which will be too late.
@philhsueh48606 жыл бұрын
To be fair, it's understandable why there would be no weapons readily at hand, it was stated that this was something like the 24th(?) mission to Alpha Centauri, so it's exactly like they don't know where they're going or what to expect. However, once they all crash land on that planet and esp. after the critter stampede, you would think that somebody at that point would have brought up the idea of fashioning weapons, esp. John being a Marine. I now I certainly would have and I was just a POG in the Corps and Reservist on top of that but I certainly would have brought up the idea of making weapons, if guns were a no go then at least spears.
