Automated rotating scan is genius idea. Maybe some kind of arm rest at the elbow or wrist/forearm to help keep the limb more stationary. I’m always amazed how dexterous your left hand is. When gesturing especially, it’s very natural movement. So cool Oh! I know this might be outside the purview, but when making 3D photogrammetry scans of actors/animals, we use a kind of cage with many DSLR cameras aiming at the centre. Then trigger all of them at once. This keeps the natural human movement at 0 because it’s all at the same time. I recall seeing some even use a bunch of old GoPros or even webcams. A scrupulous fellow could get a system like that running rather affordably

So If you're referring to the guy from the hackaday article like a year ago that was capturing 5 different pictures at the same time at slightly different spacing and angles to make a quasi 3d effect. I actually met them at the first open sauce a couple of years ago. Super cool project.

Super cool stuff! It seems like it handles concave areas (like the palm) pretty well, too.

The scan to print is surprisingly accurate. It's not absolutely perfect, but it's good enough to wear to see.

Just a video about a man having a casual conversation with his cat. Also a nifty scanner too I guess.

Love it. +1 for the Cat. While I don't do the physical stuff (software goon), I love seeing it.

On the abs warping (opening up) could you add some removable bridges across the open area to hold the walls together untill it cools or do you think the internal stress of printing will cause it to open back up if you removed them?

Absolutely! The last couple of time that I've attempted this i printed it as a complete circumference of my forearm scan and trimmed it to fit later. And that just might be the answer. Ultimately I'm trying to use the 3d printed check socket as a trial device interface for someone wanting to try on the device and see if it is viable for them without making the commitment of building the device first.

ASA might be a good abs-like alternative too.. In my experience it's at least 5% better with warping 😅

For real sockets, I'm recommending vacuum resin composite. They're super relatively easy to do, but there is a bit of commitment. Im investigating the printed sockets right now for people that want to try it out before making the jump. If i can print a set of sockets in 4 or so hours plus some drawing time it might be less of a barrier. Idk.

Hello sir, I think your design is very cool and practical. I am facing the same problem of missing fingers as you. Can you provide me with a design drawing for your mechanical palm or can I pay you the corresponding price? I also want to make my own mechanical palm.
