Today GE was load testing three new units for Australia on the test track in Erie, PA. The CSX and NS main are right down the street from the test track and CSX ran two WB during the test track action. Filmed by Jim Gray 10-2-14.

Interesting to see where they are made! All the trains in the Pilbara are one man crews. The Roy Hill locomotives are set up for remote control for when they are loading the iron ore cars. I see these trains all the time, there are four players in the Pilbara..BHP, Rio Tinto, Fortescue Mining, and Roy Hill. They all run American-made locomotives unlike the rest of Australia.

I was raised with these horns as background noise. I actually miss the sounds of the midnight trains.

Thanks for this. First look at the Roy Hill group.

yea there were build off of ac6000 carbodys so i heard off the wiki so i guess they are the ac6000's cousin

Matthewzen9 If my calculations are right why doesn't GE use them on our ES44AC with the tier 4. The engines would run cooler and a cooler diesel engine means fewer emissions, right? I guess they don't want to use some 100 gallons of extra water (I'm not sure how much extra), I guess.

Ryan Hatterer Too weak they run the high or the highest power locomotives ge can make right now. They are way way above the stock us locomotives. This line up is probably just 1 Roy hill locomotive pulling the rest on full breaking

in reality, the opposite is true. the bigger radiators are because the hotter climate in the Pilbara region.
@gm16v1496 жыл бұрын
True, it’s the heat, it can get to 120F up there and they are hauling trains of around 30,000 tons gross weight or more. Way higher weight than anywhere else I can think of.

These Australian exports look a lot like AC6000CWs with their long rear radiators

My guess is they are ES60AC’s 🤷🏼♂️

The location of the video is the Wallbridge Road crossing East of Lawrence Park. The CSX, NS, and the test track all cross there within a couple hundred feet.

I got to watch from these places and enjoy the test track action back in maily 07 & 08. They still making that bio-diesel up there?

Wow that's a sharp paint scheme. Make those radiators pop! How do they get permission to run a locomotive like that on the test track? I bet that the Australians have different rules for their rails when it comes to locomotives.

GE is testing them before shipping every locomotive gets a 100 mile shakedown before leaving GE Erie

The mines run private railways, so they setup us railways in Australia. They aren't the standard us specs though, no idea what hp these would be, there's a video showing inside ge transport and a guy says the rio Tinto locomotives are the highest hp locomotives they make and ship out. 1 rio Tinto mine locomotive at full power can pull 7 of the lowest evolution lowest hp locomotives with full breaking, but they usually test with 2 high mid tier on full breaking and the rio Tinto locomotives will still drag the 2 and pick up speed on 6 or 7 speed setting. They look different due too dust filters etc

Jim...could you give me specifics as to where this was shot? I grew up in Lawrence Park(in the 70's). But since so much has changed in the last forty years, I only have the mile marker 225 to go by.
