Vernon. You’re a bloody legend. I’ve been sailing for fifty years and tried multiple times to learn how to do an eye splice in a spectra cored rope, and I’m stuffed if I can do it. For me it always jams at the bury. Congratulations! 😊
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
Maybe beginners luck? Its the same method as double braid. It really depends on the spectra I found. One bit I have the sheath was so tightly woven that I had no chance. New rope was way way easier than old rope.

Looking forward to seeing this beast flying in the optimum conditions for this boat to hit her top speeds. Narrow hulls dagger boards the rotating mast, no excess apartment style living like so many cats seem to be all points to something quick. If it's gonna be a cat this is exactly what you'd want
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
We shall see I guess. Thing is, I have no idea yet when I'm pushing it and how far as she doesn't "talk" to me like Schiehallion did. I guess you just push until the sails or mast break then you've hit the limit?

@@SailingLearningByDoing Did the previous owner say anything about how quick he got her
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
@@Antipodean33 he said he got 19 on a wave which I believe as I got 16.8 on a wave with just the jib. I’m guessing 20 should be doable in the right conditions and pushing hard.

Man, you guys with the sailing lingo. It is all just ROPE, until its made into something else. Its not a coil of SHEET or a roll of HALYARD, its ROPE until its made into a Halyard.

Sydney rope supplies are great. Have gone in and got ropes off them twice now and will continue to use. Was almost going to suggest them in previous video but thought the KZbin videos may have been months behind.

Yeah, happy with them for sure, super fast shipping. We're only 2 weeks behind with the videos.

Loosen the topping lift when you go sailing , pull it back on when you drop the sail, that's normal on a cat .

Rotating mast is a curious item. No need to explain anytime soon maybe give extensive road test.
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
Rotating mast was added in 2014. I used it now as its there. I guess on a long passage it would make a difference though.

You need to watch the video again. He explained that the screatcher furling line is endless. In other words, and as shown, both ends of the line are spliced together. Cheers from Newcastle Australia
@tonypurkiss6022 Жыл бұрын
Also, I forgot to mention that the furling system on the screacher works by pulling one side of the furling line to pull the sail out and you pull the other side of the line to furl the sail up. Hence that is why you have an endless furling line.
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
@@freddywulf2024 I fuel and unfurl the screecher from the bow, sitting on the trampoline, then I just tie the furling line off on a cleat there.

Watching you handling ropes. You are putting twists into the new lines if you just pull the lines of the roll sideways. You need to run the line by spinning the new roll to avoid twists. I do like your new boat .

Channel youngbarnacles features a NZ family on 1992 Catana 42s designed by Lock Crowther, looks like your boat's bigger sister. Skipper has an engineering degree and decades of experience on racing sailboats. Your new boat is really cool.

You did a beautiful job filming and explaining. The ending shots of the video with each line shown and labeled were perfect. Love the 360 from the mast. I'm glad you were able to get different color lines instead of a reel of all the same color, as discussed last week. Don't discredit yourself. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

With all of your splicing, I was surprised to see that you didn't splice the end of the headsail sheets. Could go soft shackle connection, or even a regular shackle. It sure cleans up the clew of the sail, especially while furled.
@SailingLearningByDoing Жыл бұрын
Nothing simpler than a good ol bowline. Never put a hard shackle on the clew of a sail unless you want it to whack you in the teeth someday. Soft shackles, mmmh, haven't got on that train yet.
