Your video is sending chills down my spine. The wife and I just bough a 2022 Beacon 41 LKB last month, put it in a nearby park until we are ready to go and sold our house. We are going full time and are moving into it this weekend (Memorial Day). If I had seen this video first I don't think I would have purchased our VanLeigh. I also just finished watching your horrifying water leak video. Not a comforting feeling. I really hope we don't share you luck. Hope things start going better for you. I subscribed and will be keeping tabs on your progress. Best of luck!

Congrats to both of you and we wish you the very best on the full time adventure! Selling our home was SUCH a big effort but such a relief once it was all said and done 😎 We do believe our Beacon is an outlier and has MANY MORE issues than most...unfortunate for us but hopefully promising for you! There are more issues coming up on our channel (unfortunately) but we hope to share a lot more fun and a lot less issues! Thanks for watchin! 👍

From videos I've seen from other VanLeigh owners it seems suspension and frame issues can be a big problem. So much so that I'm going to have all the leaf springs replaced and have the frame reinforced before we hit the road. I'm wondering if those issues might be coming up in one of your future vids. Guess we'll know soon enough.

Yes...you will know soon 😐 I think you are on the right path with the reinforcing and checking those leaf springs too! 👍

So many quality issues with 5th wheel trailers. I'm in a 20 plus year old class A that is still holding up better than the newer RVs. It's a National Dolphin LX I guess they were pretty well built. I got mine with 12k miles on it. Put 30k on it in 4 years. No roof issues no hardware issues. Minor maintenance on engine and of course new tires but other than that it's been incredible. On my 5th year full timing in this rig.

We've owned our 2017 Vilano 325 RL since Sept. 2016. We visited Danny for our first time when they were still in Belmont next to Belmont Diesel services, and it was only one Bay. Oct. 2016 He said next time we will be coming to the new Building at Tishomingo. This was the first yr. we have missed having our unit not have a annual check-up. Love the whole bunch there at TSC. look forward to stopping in this fall for some TLC from which ever Service Man we are assigned. We are presently volunteering at the Tetons and will run by TSC on the way back to Florida for the winter. Keep smiling guys.Oh best move you've made is taking it to TSC.

Great video, I’m glad I built my own, I converted a bus. I used all plywood, it has a permanent steel roof, home plumbing, custom built cabinets, 1800 watts solar, 8 KWH LifePO, heated floors, dual furnaces (propane and diesel), mini split AC, 100 gallons fresh water, ceramic tile bathroom, barn sink, queen bed, on demand hot water heater, no slides, two TV’s, Starlink internet, five 24/7 security cameras, two Alexa’s and a 6x7.5’ roof top deck (synthetic wood). I’m currently at 9000 feet camping for free (views are stunning). I haven’t plugged in for 8 weeks. It’s not as big inside as that fifth wheel, but I’m a high clearance bus. Total cost about 40K US dollars and 1200 hours of work.

One of my biggest issues with manufacturers and dealerships. Each one of those entities should have been thru the rig to make sure all was ok and in working order. They have quality control departments at the manufacturer for a reason and the dealerships it’s all about the money. Only you will truly care about your rig. I’ve seen the same video for almost all manufacturers and dealerships. Well not all but you know what I mean. You are a pillar of patience!! While I have patience, my house falling apart and destroying essentials like floors and items not working like air conditioners would put me over the edge. I hope they do you right!! It’s sad that these are being pumped out without the quality. My best to your family as you travel. Be safe!!

Our 2019 Coachmen Catalina has been nothing but problems since we bought it new. First, it was raining and I had the air-conditioner on. I noticed water dripping from the air-conditioner. I thought it was condensation. Nope. The dealer checked it and the air-conditioner was so loose, he said that he could almost turn it sideways!! OK, got that fixed. He noticed they didn't bother to put caulk on one side of the RV. He took care of that. Next, when slide is retracted (closed) and it rains, I have a couple of gallons of water sitting on the top of the slide inside! I replaced the seals myself and it still does it. Next, I noticed one wheel is wearing uneven on the inside. All other 3 are fine. Probably a loose wheel bearing. Next, the power switch on the bumper power lift broke. I had to replace that. I could keep going, but it would take several more paragraphs to write. I'm almost scared to take the camper anywhere now, for fear of something else going wrong. They make these things like junk. Anyway, nice video and thank you for posting!!

Wow! What an ordeal you folks went through with the Beacon!!!!!! In Dec 2020 (we live in Boise Idaho too) I purchased a 24 foot car hauling trailer and converted it to a toy hauler. After watching several of your videos, it gives me a sense of contentment that I did my own cargo trailer conversion. Yes the fit and finish is not as good as a Beacon, but we've already spent two winters in AZ with Friends without any issues. We were thinking of someday purchasing a "nice" 5th wheel, but after seeing your videos, I have great pause! Maybe I'll get a bigger car hauling trailer and do another conversion! With lessons learned from the first conversion, the 2nd would be much a much nicer build.

My fraternal twin brother was able to negotiate for a much cheaper price on his airstream trailer when he found all of the faults with it. Wow, as you were taking us through many of the issues you have experienced with your new rig I was just sitting here shaking my head. I can only imagine what a roller coaster of emotions the both of you were dealing with as one thing after another kept happening. Being out here on the road does have its issues, its always an adventure; however after watching this video I would think many would just throw in the towel. Angie and I have RVed for over 30 years and we have experienced a variety of issues with each of the 4 rigs we have owned over the years, but nothing in comparison to what you two have had to deal with, You must have went to bed at night wondering what would go wrong the next day. Crazy. All that said, it sounds like Vanleigh is trying to get all of these issues resolved. You said the key words ... be flexible! A recent trip back to our local dealer was only side skirt and fender well damage due to a tire blow out on our last trip in the fall. I just picked up our fifth wheel on 4/29 ... 6 months after I dropped it off. I could not blame the dealer since they could not proceed without parts from the manufacturer. I would have considered trading in as is, but prices are absolutely nuts right now ( double what we paid 6 years ago ). Hopefully the bulk of your issues have been taken care of. Happy travels!

Well, we did it. We moved into our new Beacon 4 days ago and started our new adventure as full timers. After watching your videos the fist thing I did was inspect all of our systems for things that have gone wrong with your rig. Our list is already disturbing, but nothing close to what you have gone through , YET! After all, its only been a few days. My biggest question for you at this time is, in your video you explained that your roof membrane had some bubbles in it. Is this alone a reason for a membrane replacement? I know your roof also had additional issues that required its replacement. My reason for asking is that I went up on the roof and found multiple bubbles (well over a dozen) in our membrane. I assumed the membrane would have been glued down for full contact across the entire roof. It looks more like it lays unattached over the majority. Did your new roof have any bubbles. Knowing you have resent experience with said issue, I just wanted to get your take on it before I call VanLeigh, assuming they would just give me feel good answers hoping I would go away. Thank you for putting in the effort to produce these videos, I know it is very time consuming, but your are actually doing a great service to other RV'rs like use.
@MidlifeDetour2 жыл бұрын
Craig - Congratulations on going full time! Vanleigh will for sure tell you that bubbles in the membrane is normal and to some extent they are correct due to their application process. However there are exceptions. I spent two weeks speaking with Alpha Systems (membrane manufacturer), Vanleigh, installers, third party inspectors and different technicians both private and at dealerships in regards to how Vanleigh does their roofs. Vanleigh will also provide a document from the manufacturer stating why bubbles exist and how it is a normal process of a RV roof. First the good; Vanleigh does secure extra membrane by almost a foot in the front and then 1.5 foot in the back which is then stapled down to the back wall prior to placing on the fiberglass cap. With this process it would make it difficult for the membrane to become detached at the front or rear. It is standard for a Vanleigh to have a "bubble strip" all the way down the unit about 6" in from the edge and this is due to how they build their roofs. They construct the main part of the roof first but leave the last 6 inch edge for when they place the roof on the unit. Once placed they then roll on the glue to the remaining areas and stretch the membrane over the sides of the unit securing with the gutter. In almost every Vanleigh I have been on that strip is present where they do not get the glue to meet up with the already prepped and finished area. Not all Vanleighs have bubbles outside of that strip - Any other bubbles that exist in the membrane around the AC units, skylights or randomly throughout the decking are a direct result from improper installation / light glue application, or not properly smoothing out the material during that application process. Vanleigh will argue that those bubbles are there for expansion and contraction of the membrane. This argument is inconsistent as units built at the same time, curing in the same regions have different results. There could also be light membrane attachment at the decking seams due to the tape they place in those areas to make it smooth - however a proper installation would not reveal that. With all of that said - we all want perfectly flat and smooth roofs but if you have some small bubbles I wouldn't be concerned. I would take the small bubbles and the strip along the side any day of a roof replacement. If you would like additional information feel free to reach out to me directly at ryan@midlifedetour.us

I am surprised at all the issues you guys are having with such a high end rig. I am sorry to hear all of this. We have a 2018 Palomino Columbus that we purchased as barely used last June. It's been great so far with just a wiring issue with the outside microwave and a few loose pieces of base trim inside, but we don't live in it. We have two small bubbles on our roof, maybe a few inches in diameter. I had done some research and it was indicated that bubbles are caused by not allowing the glue to set long enough before applying the membrane and it should be nothing to worry about as long as the bubbles don't grow. What happened to your membrane?
@MidlifeDetour2 жыл бұрын
Our wood decking under our membrane had become separated and unattached from the unit so the decking had to be replaced. Likely the bigger issue was that our roof was elevated as our cabinets and bedroom walls were too tall. To correct this they had to lift our roof up and cut the top of our cabinets down to get the roof to fit down correctly onto the unit. The membrane was replaced during this process. We have a friend that had a Palomino and had great luck with his rig with minimal issues. Thanks for watching!

Noooo, oh no. You're so calm and patient. I would not be able to talk (too busy shaking my head), and completely bald from pulling my hair out. I would need another gift give away from you for bail money although me shooting someone over this might be justifed!😊 I applaud you both on being so calm and matter of fact. I have to admit I laughed out loud when you showed the fan and your face & comment. On the serious side, I realize Tiffin must be working with you, but has it been "easy?" Have you forwarded all these issues to your 3rd party inspector for their feedback? But on the positive side, it can only get better!! This must be testing the old saying of "roll with it" but hang in there guys. And the rig really does look good!! AND a big thank you for sharing your story. It could not have been easy.

It’s amazing and disappointing to see what’s to be expected even in high end rigs! It really gives me pause. Being flexible is one thing, but the laundry list of items that needed repairs or replacement was just ridiculous on a six month old $150k investment. And on a Tiffin! So much for their reputation. I’m thinking that I might as well spend a lot less on a rig like an Alliance and take my chances. Good luck to you and God bless!👍🏼😎

Yes, we are highly disappointed with the performance of the RV but still hoping for resolution on all the issues and a lot more good travel! We looked at Alliance! They have excellent costumer service and a very loyal following! 👍 I think you should go for it! 😉

This terrifies me to get a newer model I got a 2007 keystone Raptor lived in parked for several years since then it’s prob had 150k miles put on it full time living and ive only had 2 water leaks from the pex pipes 1 refrigerator power control board replaced 1 microwave and some trim repairs nothing major and when new it did have slide repairs done under warranty other and within the last year the garage door has gotten a small leak but other than that this thing is a tank. Maybe just updating mine is a better option

Your Rv should had been hauled to the factory and every person who worked on the affected areas should had been made to go thru it and then wrote up for poor workmanship then the RV left at the plant for a reminder to know what not to do and a replacement that had actually been quality controlled checked been given to you.

The unfortunate results of poor workmanship due to all the highly experienced craftsmen leaving the manufacturer. The amount of money charged for an RV, and the construction quality do NOT go hand to hand, not everyone can afford a new RV, it’s considered a luxury and for many a necessity, it’s disrespectful to the American people to do such a shitty job, and this goes to ALL manufacturers.

Come on, a bit dramatic….if you had a 3rd party inspector, many of the things that were not correct would have been discovered. If you had a certified inspector, you shouldn’t have paid them a penny. These people are through and keep records, go through everything and are professional. Did you not discuss the roof bump with the inspector? And you are very familiar with RV’s. I appreciate that you may have had An unusual amount of problems, but AnyThing built after 2020 is having problems. And Vanleigh is one of the few manufacturers that will speak with you, help walk you through problems and if not, will make sure your repair shotp gets parts quickly. You soften up at the end and told the good parts about Vanleigh but the beginning was dramatic and in my opinion, really put a bad light on Vanleigh.

I had a new 2019 Grand Design Reflection for three years. The fit and finish was substandard, customer service was negligible, and it was poorly designed. The best thing I did was to get rid of it. Now I have a Newmar London Aire and couldn’t be happier. Owning a Grand Design was a miserable experience.
@MidlifeDetour Жыл бұрын
We likely glamorize our Grand Design a bit because we had minimal issues or at least the standard RV kinda issues and could reach a support person when we needed one. We have a friend that owned the same model we currently do (the Beacon) and went to a Newmar and couldn't be happier and has been trying to convert us. Newmar seems to be a whole other level. Can't lie I have peeked a few times.
