Something that needs to be mentioned. These drills and impacts get increasingly more powerful with bigger HP batteries. The HP 2.0Ah batteries are the worst performers. I usually get bogged down with most tools with those batteries, they are nice because they don't weigh a lot but if you are trying to do the 1 inch spade bit on 2nd speed it'll always get stuck. Use the HP 4.0ah battery and above and you'll notice how strong those tools really are. Most of the tools really shine with the HP 6.0ah battery and from what I've heard the HP 9ah battery is the real beast that lays down real power. Only problem is it is very bulky and heavy so you probably don't want to use it for any big jobs.

The impact driver definitely performed stronger in this video compared to the last video from 2020. Glad I made this purchase, and should be all I’ll need. Ryobi has never failed to impress so far. Got some of their One+ lawn equipment before I decided to get power tools, and I really can’t say anything too bad about them.

I really like your reviews Tim. What I do when using a hole saw on a drill without a side handle is rather than cover the cooling vents with my left hand, I cup the battery with my left hand to minimize the torque snap. That technique would probably work for lefties too.

I like that the two batteries are 2.0 ah, upgrade from the traditional 1.5 ah in a few of their drill driver / impact driver. The sizes are😊 so awesome compared to when their tools were blue. This 18 v One+ system is amazing. A lot of people do not like the peg batteries but it works and works well. Drilling that whole saw into wet pt wood was pretty cool. And the Impact driver can compete with any of the tool brands.

I went with the hammer drill combo, they toss in a 4ah & 2ah battery ($229, but I had a &25 Discount ). I looked at the compact line as well, but figured I will not say latter to myself, “dam if this thing was just 1” shorter or 1/2 pound lighter”. I could defiantly hear myself say” dam wish this drill had that hammer mode or wish this impact had more balls to take my mower blades off”. I’m only investing in one drill and one impact driver, not rich enough to own the whole 200 plus line of tools (yet!). I upgraded and changed brands from the 12v Dewalt line. I’m very pleased.

I think it's very important that u demonstrate the drill battery contact points to the impact gun battery contact points only the drill has to ability to utilize the hp feature so even tho both claim to be hp only the drill has the added contact points for more power for longer

So...I've been using a 20V DeWalt brushless drill for cleaning dryer vents using the extension piece set. Carrying that 20V around all day on your hip gets tiresome. The DeWalt 12V drill chuck is too small for the vent tool. I saw this 18V Ryobi at a pawn shop new for $50.00 with battery and charger and saw that it had a 1/2" chuck. This Ryobi is the size of the DeWalt 12V, weighs roughly the same and has a bigger chuck and has great power. I bought it and am glad I did. It works GREAT! The only downfall is the tool clip screw is some obscure size that a commercial maintenance tech of 2 decades didn't have. I had to tap out the threads and I tossed a DeWalt clip on it.

I bought the one with 3 speed and 4th is automatic tool only, struggled on a rusted bolt in my truck, went and returned and got this package and oh boy it has no delay and is a monster at taking the bolts compare to the model with 4 settings

I saw this set the other day when I was at home Depot shopping for other things. And I was thinking to myself "why would I want something like this?". This was just 3 days ago and here comes this video. I kept thinking about it the whole time I was shopping throughout the store. It was like it kept calling me all the way from the tool section even though I had long left that area... LOL. I kept thinking to myself "I don't see a reason why I would want this, but something is telling me that I'm going to end up buying it".

Should of maxed it out on breakaway torque but I'm still impressed. The impact with 4-mode is only $99 bare tool, coming out very soon. It is listed on home depot now but says not available which means it's being released very soon

A 4/6 or even 9Ah battery improves the torque. These are great tools.

Something to note, that I found when I was going to buy the HP series drill and impact.....the HP series drill/impact driver have slightly lower torque and speed specs than the standard non-HP drill and impact driver....so don't pay more to get less...$100 for the regular Ryobi 18V kit, and the "HP" versions are $159....

Thanks for this info! PBLID02 is the 4-mode sister to this impact, but I've seen reports of collet wobble with that one. Does that occur with the PBLID01? They look to me like the same tool except for the modes, so I would imagine any issues would exist in both models, and likewise the torque capability would be the same in both models? If all else is equal I'm leaning towards the 4-mode PBLID02 but nervous about the collet wobble reports. (Also there's a PBLCK02K which includes the PBLID02 as well as a hammer drill, seems like the same drill as the one reviewed here except for adding the hammer feature.)

Lowes currently has Dewalt compact Atomic brushless combo for $159. Ryobi compact hp brushless combo - Home Depot has it for $159. I’m a homeowner for home use. I like the the Ryobi has a battery meter on the batteries. So battery meter aside, which do you think is the better value or which would you go with for my purposes?

I like the Atomic DeWalt stuff, but I don't like the tiny batteries (1.3 or 1.5Ah) included. If they were bigger batteries, I'd choose the DeWalt. However, even with the included batteries, the RYOBI performs very well. I'd have to choose the RYOBI kit. Thanks for watching.

I love impacts and want to give a little advise based on my exp. No matter if you are DIY or Pro, dont buy an impact driver that is only variable speed trigger. You want a selector switch.

@@Shoptoolreviews Ohhhh!!!! OK... Makes sense because The closest one I could find is the PSBCK01K version online, but it only has a 1.5 amp hour battery (not the 2 amp hour battery). Then there is the PLBCK02K version that is not even available yet either according to the Ryobi website.

All Ryobi is doing is repackaging their old brushless tools with the same specs and less features, but with a new model number. I think they're doing this to move people into higher priced tools. I get the feeling that the days of incredible Ryobi bargains is a thing of the past. I have several Ryobi drills and some of their impact drivers. The P238 impact driver is also rated at 2200 lbs/in of torque, *plus* it has tri-beam lights *and* three speeds. I wish Ryobi would quit trying to cut corners on everything. Lowe's house brand Kobalt is absolutely kicking Ryobi's butt.

@@Pro1er No, the HP tools are a step above anything they offered before. The tools self regulate, allowing for peak performance, and auto protect themselves to reduce risk of damaging them and turning them into paper weights by pushing them too hard. Ryobi has never done that before... You can torture an HP tool to the point an older Brushless would burn out. Previous HP+ batteries only worked like Rigid Octane, coupling better batteries with compatible brushless tools to peak performance but that was it, the tools needed the HP+ batteries to make that work and did not self regulate or self protect... While overall the HP line is reducing bulk and weight as well and was the first to introduce compact tool options to Ryobi's lineup and it's also being expanded into the 40V range of outdoor tools as well... Their marketing on it is terrible, though. So understandable to not understand what's different about them... They're moving away from needing special batteries to get peak performance and making the tools much more reliable. Doesn't change that they're still a Entry level/Home Owner/DIY'er range tool brand but it's a definite change for them...

What I find odd is that some of the "new" HP tools lack the extra battery contacts. @@Pro1er Sorry but no, not the same things. Shutting down from overload still allows damage that accumulates until the unit will no longer operate... The HP tools use a much smarter system that is far more effective and even flashes the light on the base to give an error code to let you know what's happening... While the HP battery regulation was a lot more primitive and required coupling the HP batteries with the compatible tool... But there's no such requirement for the HP Tools as it's all built into the tool now and isn't reliant on using a special battery with it...

How come when I bought this very same kit mine came with an identical looking drill an the same impact but the model number on my drill is not the same shown in the video here mine is a pbldd01 drill an for some reason my drill has the hp terminals an my impact dont

That's the same as the video. You have the same drill and impact. The extra terminals only go on tools that need the higher amperage. Small motors don't need the extra juice and don't need the extra terminals, such as impact drivers.

A more appropriate comparison to the full-size Ryobi HP drill and driver in this video would be a the full-size Ridgid Octane line. At that price point, there’s a really good argument to go with Ryobi at point. Regardless, your point stands: The subcompact line from Ridgid will be able to handle probably 99% of the tasks these bigger full-size tools are designed for, thus making it a better deal.

Yes they’re getting more expensive but in fairness people are asking for more out of them. Ryobi would be dead in the water if they were still producing their original drill and impact driver. People want innovation and more features every year so Ryobi delivers but at a cost. My issue is that they seem to be encroaching on Milwaukee and Dewalt prices but Ryobi performance isn’t getting that close to Milwaukee and Dewalt performance.

huh so the impact driver has 200 more inch pounds than the P238 but 200 less rpms and 350 less bpm, why couldn't they improve on all 3 specs i get tti don't want it to beat milwaukees 2853 but they could have came close they could have done 2200 inch pounds which beats milwaukee by 200, 3300 rpms which would he 300 short of milwaukee, and the same as the old ryobi 4350 bpm which beat milwaukee by 50 the lower rpms would nerf it to a little worse rpms

Not always just about raw specs, things like tool reliability and optimizing for longer use with better power efficiency are just some examples of other areas that also are important. While they usually try to hit target price points when it's a entry level budget tool meant more for home owners and DIY'ers... Always trade offs, won't always hit a good balance, but there can be conflicting interests and reasons why they end up doing it a certain way...

We understand what your getting at and the frustration. It is a difficult path for TTi to walk, making sure that Milwaukee stays at the top, yet moving Ryobi up the ladder.
