You are going to get better results if you clamp or secure the wood. Power carvers work by vibrating, so when you press the cutter into unsecured wood, the wood starts vibrating along with it and it either won't work or won't work very well.

I agree with your comment on using clamps. For testing purposes in this video, there was no need to clamp the wood as I wanted to see if the factory edge on the bits were sharp and cut with very little pressure, and as you can see there was no way those would cut anything, clamped or not. Ryobi should make sure the bits are sharp so it truly could be used right out of the box.

Good illustration on how sharp tools work best. Thanks. I have not used mine yet, but will sharpen the chisels before I do.

THANK YOU for a great video. I'm going to sharpen up some bits. I'm new to this - so this kind of video helps a ton.

I was hoping you would also show one or two bits from the Power Gouge Set. So they fit the Ryobis? Great video, too. I subscribed with notifications as I really like your content! You are indeed an artist! 😊

Sharpening definitely made a world of difference

Yes it did, I really did not have to work too much at them to be sharp. The factory edge just is not enough.

Brand new tool, with a purpose made wrench right there and you decide to round the collet nut with pliers????
@BradfordGuy6 ай бұрын
One can tighten a collet with pliers without rounding the corners. You just need to use a little care, is all.
@urielswing6 ай бұрын
@BradfordGuy and you can use a crescent wrench as a hammer or a screwdriver as a pry bar, but it is neither the optimal choice nor what those tools were designed for. We have all used pliers in a pinch but it's never the correct tool to preserve the nut.

Hi Chris ... thanks for the review! ... will the flexcut gouges fit this tool? ... thanks!

The Flexcut power gouges will fit this, I am not sure about the travel gouges that have the interchangeable handle.

How long do the batteries last before losing power?
@diydarkmatter2 жыл бұрын
not a fan of battery style tools . i have been interested in a power carver but tbh this is disappointing that ryobi could not even take the time to sharpen the bits just goes to show the level of care taken to insure a quality tool that people would love . when i carve i carve in alot of small detail so the fact it is so big would hinder my work . have the same issue with my rotary power carver . it gets crazy detail but the grip is way to big . but if this had a flex shaft and a small pen style handle grip it might be ok . but the battery is to small and wont last long . im guessing the inner parts are plastic and will wear out pretty fast . the fact that it does not move till you press on it leaves more room for it to wear out faster it should have a permeant connection . the most impressive part of this whole video was the flex cut bits . ryobi needs to step up there game . great review i enjoyed it . work safe

How is this working out for you? I picked one up yesterday on clearance.

For the times I have been using it, it seems to help a little when it comes to general wood removal. I still use hand tools for fine detail work. The battery life is okay for what I have been doing with it.
