Unless you want the smallest available Shield Plus, the optic ready 4” Performance Center Shield Plus is the best version in my opinion. The negative aspect is that S&W includes a Crimson Trace red dot in the package so you end up paying for an optic you may not prefer. I replaced the fiber optic sights with night sights from Night Fision. As others have stated, virtually the only light option is the TLR-6.
@GlitchyRijndael2 жыл бұрын
Recover Tactical SHR 9 Rail adapter for the Shield line gives you the option for any picatinny mountable light option. The bigger limiting factor at that point is holsters. There’s starting to be more OTS options for holsters which fit Shields with the rail adapter and lights, but depending on your choice you may have to pay for a custom holster.

Hey Chris, stick the new sights in the freezer for an hour before installing them. M&p sights are very tight but freezing them helps a lot before installing. A little dish soap helps them slide on and dries after a few minutes too for a tight fit.

Another great vid!!! I carry a regular Shield Plus, optics ready but not ported. I have fired a number of sub and micro carry pistols, but this one is the best, at least in my hands. General shootability, accuracy, grip texture and recoil is all well above average. There's a reason I have chosen to carry the Shield Plus. Particularly the accuracy, truly surprised me - one inch groups at 10 yards with the right ammo. Torso targets at 40 yards are no problem (Dickensen Drill). Depending on clothing and area I am visiting, I may carry a larger capacity arm or even a 1911, but 90% of the time, I'm carrying the Shield Plus. Thanks again for a great vid.

Your light question and some tid bits I found for this awesome piece. 1) This review helped me seal the deal for this pistol. My G43 which I love and Taran Tactical "plus mag bases" have been totally overshadowed by the micro nines with modern capacities. I've been holding out till now, and now this will be making the transition to primary CCW after 500 plus rounds and putting it thru its paces. THANKS ! 2) Weapon Light: I know you are top notch high end on things, but I was researching lights and stumbled on a brand I hadn't seen before. "Viridian". They make lights and lasers that are pretty compact for a host of weapons including the shied. They have a unique feature of standard on-strobe-off AND Instant On with a proprietary holster they supply with the light for model ordered. I thought I'd get some chinsy holster but IT CAME WITH a DeSantis IWB unit with the magnet for instant on sewn in. Seems they work with Galco, Alien Gear, DeSantis, Bravo Concealment and a few others for different holster types. That in itself gave me some confidence in trying this light. 140L, 2 hrs run time, uses 2-1/3N batteries and it came with 4. $119 for a decent light, DeSantis Holster, and extra batteries. The instant on feature is pretty cool. Time will tell. viridianweapontech.com/reactor-rtl-gen2-m-p-shield-9-40 3) Capacity of the Shield Plus: I see tips on Mag guts and extensions to up the count. BUT !!! This tid bit is kind of like not seeing Clark Kent and Superman in the same room. We all know Smith advertises 10 and 13 + 1. HOWEVER ! The EQUALIZER 15 Round Magazine is a direct fit too! In fact I did order two Equalizer 15 round mags that are advertised as Shield Plus / Equalizer mags. On inspection when received they are marked "Shield Plus". How nice is that! Nowhere Have I Seen the shield plus 3.1 barrel model advertised as 10, 13, and 15 +1. I think that makes this package a game changer over many other pistols of this category. I don't see it replacing my G19.....but dang! I do see me carrying it a little less. A micro with a flush 10, little extra 13, and full 15..... The potential for one gun for most anything, but not replacing a duty weapon. Anyway.....sorry for the long winded comment, but I think this is good info when considering this pistol. Plus.......you did ask, I just took it further. PEACE ~OUT ! Ride Fast......shoot straight.......keep the wind at your back.......and don't let the bastards get ya ! Looking foreword to your 1K rnd review.

After I finally decided to give 40 a try I went in on the Performance Center version of this. Now I am kicking myself for waiting so long. Lots of nice little extras I hadnt realized before. Ranging from the sights, to the porting, to the slightly better trigger, to the metal guide rod, and even a quality travel size cleaning kit in a case. Details matter. Digging it!

That's the setup I carried for about a year, but it makes it very bulky and the switch seems way too low to activate the light. Im curious if one of the new tlr-7subs would fit better.

I need to try some of those Pearce extensions. I have the same issue with the slide not locking back on the last round. Pretty sure it’s my shooting hand thumb hitting it but need to test this more. Have really been liking my Shield Plus. Considering adding a dot, but waiting for Holosun’s new EPS Carry with Green dot.

My hot take: Got the performance center non ported version with the 4 inch barrel. Ballistically superior and no harder to carry IMO. Left it stock. It does roll in my hand for low left hits but not by much and I can compensate if I focus. No Red dot, no light, no BS. I have had a few cases to the face...usually on the bill of my ball cap which is why I always shoot with a ball cap. No issues so far with failure to lock. I can shoot almost double the distance with my Walther PPQ 4Tac (30 to 35 yards max) but this Shield plus beats my Ruger LCR for micro carry which is my most common carry. It's comfort zone for me is about 20 yards max. I also shoot better than my PPQ w my Sig Nightmare 1911 by about 5 to 10 yards. It's good to have options. For a "fight w a gun" situation the LCR (comfort zone is like 5 yards max for me) is probably as good as any...but if a mass shooter in a mall or church etc. I'd rather have my Commander sized 1911. ALL that said this Shield is what I wanted....a VERY GOOD "all rounded" (there are always trade offs) for my needs. And yes, I know people can overcome their distance limitations with practice.... vision w old eyes, no so much.

I got mines stock. All my shots landed on the 8-10 point center at 25 feet. The red and green iron sights improve my focus on the target. Even when my hands were sweaty, I was able to maintain my grip. The magazine release springs the magazine out nicely. The trigger is smoother than the regular shield plus meaning less movement pulling the trigger. The thumb safety is perfectly reachable and easy to switch off/on. I think the colored sights and the port makes the gun look cooler cosmetically. Best handgun decision I bought.

I have the 4" Shield Plus Performance Center pistol that came with Crimson Trace red dot. Great pistol. Small and easily concealable. If you want the 3.1" optics ready with no safety ... it's SKU 13534 ... but that isn't the "Performance Center" edition, the PE's that are optics ready only come in 4".

I have the older model, M&P Shield 9mm. Love it. How about doing retrospective reviews of older pistol models? I nominate Springfield 's 1911, 9mm Range Office. Had one for years; only used it sporadically for plinking & short distance target practice. Took it recently to my first IDPA meet. OMG! Made head shots easy; central body shots were so natural as to be automatic. Not a single malfunction despite using cheap ammo.A keeper! Next: What 22 pistol do you recommend? Do a comparison video.

Another great video! The Sig P365XL Spectre Comp has peaked my interest possibly adding a compensated carry gun. It has everything you need in a CCW pistol (and it's optic ready) except that it's a bit too pricey. I'd love to see a head to head comparison between the M&P Shield Plus Performance Center and the Spectre Comp.
@jase11252 жыл бұрын
I recommend getting the P365X-Macro. Significantly cheaper, more capacity and only slightly larger than the Spectre Comp. The Macro shoots very flat and fast. One thing I have noticed with it, is it will punish bad trigger work. More so than my P365X and P365XL for some reason.

@@jase1125 Thanks for the feedback. Have you tried running the P365 X-Macro slide on the P365 grip? I'm curious if that would be a good combo in terms shoot-ability and conceal-ability.

I had the PC version of the 3.1” Shield Plus and loved it. A year later the optic ready was released. I purchased the vanilla version (orange front white rear night sites) and swapped the uppers. No problems at all. The other hybrid also functions just fine and shoots better than I can.

I have this one, equipped with the Holosun - Green Dot HE507K-GR X2 Series $319.99 and Streamlight TLR-6 - Light/Laser (100 Lumens) $129.99. T-Rex Sidecar 2 holster. Love it!

I just picked one of these up (literally today) as my first carry pistol. My other pistol is an M&P full-size that I run with the largest palmswell and was surprised at how well this fit in my hand. The PC trigger tuning is noticeable compared to the similar flat-faced trigger on my full-size with the latter being noticeably gritty out-of-the-box (though it smoothed out after ~1000 rds) with a spongy, inaudible reset. The PC trigger is definitely smoother with an audible reset, and I can't wait to take it to the range.

I'm still a newbie. I have a M&P 2.0 9 compact setting up for home defense with the Holosun 507C (green dot) with a C&H adaptor plate instead of the plastic adaptors it came with. I have plans for a light. I really like shooting this gun! For EDC I have the Shield Plus with the 3.1 inch barrel & night sights. I sent it to C&H to mill the rear lugs off and shorten the front lugs for my Holosun 507K green dot. Just got it back and the direct mill (vs plate adaptor) makes the iron sights quite usable. This gun has been a bit challenging but I wouldn't say this isn't fun to shoot. I just need to shoot it more to be as good as I am with my compact. Also bought the Shield Plus PC 4" barrel with the CT dot for my wife. (Not ported) It shoots just a little smoother than my shorter Shield. Not a fan of the Crimson Trace but if my wife decides to start shooting it more and wants to go Holosun that will be a no-brainer. I recently viewed a review of how my Federal HST 124G rounds do in both a 3" and 4" barrel vs ballistic gel with cloth barriers. The short story is that the 3" barrel did nearly as good a job as the 4" barrel. I'd be interested in how the ported 3" barrel fairs in comparison. Still, I'm working on accuracy and I suspect good hits are king. Finally, I'm using a FHLster Enigma holster system. The holster works for both the 3" & 4" barrels. I actually like the longer holster that keeps the grip closer to me without a wedge. It works for me but YMMV. The bottom line is that in 6 months I have gone from not owning a gun to having three guns. Late to the game at 67 years old. I have no regrets starting with the S&W M&P line. Watching your reviews for several months I believe maybe there are "better options" out there but at a price point I'm not willing to pay for.

Thanks y'all! I'm all "choked up" on what to say... Lol. Still waiting for the day I upgrade certain guns, based on your reviews. It's a shame I'm so old now (60+) that the weapons are better than my skills, but I'm not upgrading for imperceptible gains. Still going to carry my PC 45 at this point. Christmas tree sights an all.
