New satellite to better predict Solar Flares, Solar Storms (

On April 23, 2023 a powerful #solarstorm hit the earth and created a stunning display of the Northern Lights over the state of Iowa. These same storms, caused by a #solarflare, also pose a threat to our modern way of life like the power grid, similar to Earth-based storms. The 2020 Iowa #Derecho devastated the region with wind gusts of 140mph. Near its peak nearly half a million customers were without power. It took weeks before the power grid was restored. While the storm was devastating, a different kind of storm, one originating from 93 million miles away, has the capability of doing much worse.
