Well, I have sat through a couple of training videos laying out the best training schedules we could put together, now it is time to hit you with a bunch of random tips that we also learned. This is for anyone struggling with injury-prone players on Football Manager, for anyone trying to develop their wonderkids to the fullest, for people who want to actually know what the heck a sports scientist does for your team.
Football Manager is always going to have little ambiguities, but my goodness we have done our best to get rid of all of them around training. I obviously knew these tests would have a lot to do with development. I do love a good wonderkid. But, I really did not anticipate the impact this training series would have on actually match-day performance in FM. I was a fool for not thinking about it, I’m glad we’re here.
Much Love,
FM Senpai

Hey Zealand - great video series. One other thing I reckon would be good to test is whether having an AM and coaches (including fitness coaches) all with the same tactical style enhances player development. I was once able to get a coaching staff who all had a gegenpress style and I felt like the player development was much better than normal. Just a feeling though….

I thought everyone trained their players at the position or role they play at??? It’s incrises their familiarity in the tactic massively! Been doing it for years and always seen good increases in ability’s and mostly in game performance in every tactic

I've always done this. The exception is a position like pressing forward, I'll train them for the Advanced forward or Deep Lying Forward role, because I want their technicals addressed, and PF ignores them. Also, if I have a "Final form" I want my tactic to represent, and that's different from my current system (common when I'm new at a team and have to make due with players on hand instead of my players) I'll train the players I want in the future in the Final Form roles.

I usually train nybyouth players at their position until they are 20-21, then move them to role. So as an examlle. If i have a youth striker come in, ill train him at St, then when he turns 20, if hes a pressing forward, ill change his training to that specific role. By that time, hopefully, the attributes that arent a priority for the role will have been increased and make the player better overall.

I don't. I determine which attributes that I want the player to work on , and I find a training position that focuses on those attributes. i think training the tactic is what grants familiarity best, NOT individual positions.

One thing I have noticed with the "praising" and "criticizing" is that how the players react is also personality based. If players have a "better" personality, then you can praise them if they are 7.00 or above, but other players with worse personalities you cant praise until they hit 7.75

Thanks for the great guides youve made, over the years - have helped me undertsand different aspects of the game!! I^ve finally taking over training for all my teams now (youth/23 etc). One question thou - is there a way to set up training matches for the youth teams on a predetermed day - like wednesday - instead of sat/sun - and let my youth team managers handle it? Or do I have to do it manually like i do now for all of my 3 teams? I like to take semi-pro clubs up the system, and want to max out training and match days - and keep the youth/reserves ready if main team needs then at the wekend matchday. Thanks in advance!!

0:50 When I restarted the Newcastle save, I didn't realize how poor injuries and youth development got. I started later in the year, this Monday (April 25, or ANZAC Day) game time using Canadian database, actually. The injuries piled up in just 2 months that my first order of business in the new season wasn't on the transfer market, but to poach staff from Manchester United and Bayern Munich.

Had to switch alot with the training intensity. Because with alot of matches I think it might be just a bit much. Almost never in the season was double intensity do able for the starting players. Only for the players who only played 2/3 matches a month did double intensity work. Some starters were even on half intensity for months. They did progress tho.

Great video that highlights a lot of points that should be obvious but can be easily overlooked. Question ... does the personality of the coaches affect the development rate of players the same way as the players personality does? And if so to what aspect? For instance, would a coach with a model professional personality but only a training attribute (lets say defence) of 12, be better than a coach with a balanced personality but training attribute of 16?

I’ve always left general training to a good Assistant Manager and just controlled individual training myself, particularly the role I want them to play. Never done anything else. I can usually win the premiership with West Ham every season using a 442 with 3 Team Instructions. never rated faffing around with training as in real life the manager delegates it. Never bother praising players for training though, will try that.

I see this test as pretty "flat" and general. Evidence Based Football Manager did a test that showed that coaches attributes were important if your players are low in professionalism, ambition and determination but didn't matter if the players had high numbers in these areas. It would be nice if your training team could try and replicate this test. Also he found out that morale in itself didn't effect a players development in training.

@@boomdibam9823 you've literally just described real life. If a good player doesn't fit a system, he will be outperformed by a lesser player who does. Look at Man Utd. Their squad, on paper, is much better than Arsenal's. However, the majority of Arsenal's squad fit quite nicely into the way Mikel Arteta is looking for them to play. Utd, on the other hand, have a mish-mash of players with plenty of ability, but who don't suit the style they're playing, so they underperform. For instance, for England, Harry Maguire is a dependable defender. For Man Utd, he's the opposite. Why? Does he intentionally play badly for his club, or is it more likely because they don't play to his strengths and that their style of play actually exposes his weaknesses? The same question could be posed about Paul Pogba, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and many others... Equally, I could've chosen Pepe's struggles to break into the Arsenal team - a £70m signing and one of the most coveted players in the world at the time only a handful of years ago - or how Arsenal are considerably weaker when Cedric Soares plays at right back. Utd are set to change their style of play in the summer and have already stated that there will be a number of personnel changes. Why? Because much of the squad don't fit the style of play that they will be looking to implement. It doesn't make them bad players - they wouldn't be at Utd if they were - it just means that their strengths are not suited to the style of football the manager is looking to implement. As the old saying goes, you can't fit a square peg into a round hole.
@elgat34ux
@elgat34ux 2 жыл бұрын
@@boomdibam9823 I don't think you've understood the point I was making, which could well be, as you say, because there is a small language issue. My point is not about pa at all. My point is that a less talented player whose role in the team suits their natural style of play will perform better in that role than a more talented player who is better suited to a different role or system. For instance, N'golo Kante. When played in the holding midfield role for Leicester and Chelsea, he was a beast. Literally one of the most feared holding midfielders in the world. Under Sarri, he was forced to play in a different way that didn't suit him at all and it was clear for all to see. Chelsea would've been better suited playing a potentially less talented player in that role than playing Kante there and they would have been more effective.

Maybe I am an excemption, but I can not recommend them at all. I adjusted the schedule do my league calender, but that didn't do anything. A lot of Injuries and literally no progression. The entire squad has more reduction in traits than anything else. I may not have the best training staff and no player is above PA of 150, but according to his spreadsheet that shouldn't matter. My staff and facilities are better than Alaves in his sheet. Not sure what Zealand and his team were testing, but it didn't work for me.

I was wondering about the Sports Scientist: does a good sports scientist slow down the physical decline of older players? It would make sense and would be very interesting because older players that are still good can often be signed as out of contract players. In general I find the physical decline of players that are reasonably old- say 33- exagerrated in FM, there are many older players in real life who show they can stay at high level (I was watching Albiol today against Liverpool, he was let go by Napoli years ago because he was getting old and he is now in the Champions League semi finals) but in FM this seems impossible. Does a good sports scientist make this more realistic in FM?
@bimapriambada1098
@bimapriambada1098 2 жыл бұрын
It's not sports scientists job to make steady physical attributes for older players. It's fitness coach and older player's playing time. SS job is to make sure that your player have no issue with injury and suggest training workload. Having a good SS will give you an accurate info about player healthy/clear from injury.

@richardskelding4528
@richardskelding4528 2 жыл бұрын
Injury susceptibility is how prone a player is to becoming injured. For example, if they've had a lot of injuries before, especially recurring ones, then they're more likely to become injured again. Injury risk is just the general risk of injury through how intense the schedule is. Like if you have a lot of matches close together and intense training sessions, then players are more likely to suffer injuries due to the physical intensity of the training and matches.
@sld1776

I just don't have the time, if I get a 16 year old with a ca of 90 and pa of 160 then ill keep him around and give games if I've won the league or loan him out at 17 , if he gets to a decent ca at 20 then he gets more time on the team However there is no way I'm messing about taking a 16 year old ca of 90 pa of 130 , unless I'm in the lower divisions, I dont even bother signing them at a top club , if a player has the code to be good he will be good , you might get an extra 10 ca out of him , but to take ages finding the right staff, I haven't got the time tbh. FM is and has always been Tactic Keep upgrading players every year Loan out kids Try and get staff thar can do 3.5 stars and higher in their section of training. Find the tactic that works against top teams away. Too busy to sort tactics , download them , nothing in the game is cheating , it's all down to time to play the game , if you only have 1 hour a day, the last thing you want is to faff about with a broken game, and i only play 1 game every couple of nights , the highlights lie , will and always have done, a player looking dangerous in the highlights looks like he is playing well , ends the game with a 6.8 , the actual info and stats differ widely to what you see , unless you play every minute of every game , even the 3d is a poor representation of the text , which is why reading the text commentary is a better idea of what happened

I have been using the training schedule for 1.5 seasons now and I can't say that I see much of a difference. Quite frankly, the results may be even worse than other training schedules out there. At least now I know that the sports scientiest does something.

Coaching staff and facilities always made a difference, trainning the player in a role that he plays always made a difference, i didn't even know this was a question.

Put in the stats you want on the screen then hit "ctrl+p" a window will appear asking how you want to save it then you save as a webpage. Once that's done you can open the file on excel and make it look nicer

Is it true that Acceleration, Pace and Drbbling are the most important stats across all positions and the ones that impact player performance the most? ZaZ linked a study done on FM that pretty much proves you should only predominantly do Quickness in team and individual training

When Zealand tested it, he also found jumping reach and strength to be important, in addition to speed and dribbling.

I would probably say goals and assists are more important stats. Acceleration and pace are attributes my man.

I'm applying Z's training schedule in my FM21 save and It's working well. Players are progressing well. I do understand though that I'm having quite a lot of injuries because I wasn't able to manage the pre-season training (joined team after pre-season)

It's a shame that it's so boring and time-consuming to fanny around going through all the players to praise/blame good/bad training performances every week ... surely you should just be able to tell your assistant to do it automatically ...
