Looks good. I have the X5 but in rainy/damp conditions I can't say I am too happy with the touch screen... unlocking is fiddly (either of the two options) and is sensitive to raindrops and my rain jackets sleeve somehow too. That battery life also seems to be a good step up.
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the screen responsiveness could do with improving, especially when it comes to rain although I did see that Shot Scope emailed today to notify users they're working on a solution. I do prefer the button control on the V5 to be honest as I've always just used the crown on the X5 and tend to disable the lock as it locks a bit too quickly. Finally, battery life is definitely improved on the V5. 70% after 1 full round so far from a full charge and 5 days general watch usage from a full charge!

I love my V5! It's the best of the V3 combined with the best of the X5, and a huge improvement over both. I liked the V3, but it wasn't as accurate as I would like. The X5 had the accuracy, but the human interface was abysmal. The V5 is perfect.

So glad I just bought my X5, returning it asap. It wasn’t completely terrible, the touch screen could be annoying at times but the battery life was pretty bad. I loved the buttons on my G5, this is basically a suped up G5 from the looks of it
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear you've not had a great experience with the X5. Personally, I've found it to be good golf watch since the second firmware update back in April/May 2023, and have had very few issues over the 30+ rounds I've used it. I know the screen responsiveness is a bit of an issue for users, myself included, so the buttons should help with that. Regarding the battery, my last 18 with the V5 used 30% whereas my X5 usually uses around 50%, so the V5 will definitely appeal to those looking to manage 2 full rounds from a single charge. In terms of the G5, it's considerably nicer looking and more premium feeling watch than the G5, although more expensive.

If upgrading from H4, how do you use the new tags and keep the data from the old tags? Thanks!
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Hey there! Just put the new tags in, go through onboarding within the app and you’re good to go (providing you’re just swapping like for like). All of your data will be stored as it was before and as long as you’ve not changed clubs, no need to reassign within the app. You could technically just use the existing tags with the V5 but the V5 comes with new and improved tags (in terms of fit, range and size), so it’s probably worth swapping. Hope that makes sense and please do ask away if you have any other questions. Should you wish to buy the V5, please do consider using my link (at no extra cost to you): bit.ly/43sIdqJ Thanks, Andy

Andy, what are your thoughts about the V5 charging connection ? I've used the V5 for the first time today but I expected the charging plug/socket to be a firm fit as with most devices - mine is loose and I can only "balance" the plug and socket to maintain charging. If I touch the cable by accident, the contact is broken !
@AndysGolfBlogАй бұрын
Definitely sounds like an issue, Philip. The connection is really tight with the v5 and x5. For example, I could connect the cable and lift the watch up by the cable without it falling out or stopping charge. It might just need to be pressed in firmly but it should in no way be at all slack. Hope that helps.

To be fair, the X5 pretty much does everything the V5 does and more aside from the 5 colour options for the screen colour - which will soon be coming to the X5. I've got a comparison video dropping this week, Tony.

Do you need to use the sensors or can you track your shots by manually pressing a button?would prefer the latter.
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Hi John, No, sensors are required as it tracks automatically but doesn’t allow any manual tracking with the exception of the putter, which can be manual or automatic. In truth, I can’t see any reason why manually tagging would be better than automatic (although I appreciated that’s your preference) but having used shot scope watches for a number of years, the automatic tagging is fantastic and it’s just one less thing to think about. That said, if you would prefer some sort of manual tagging, the H4 Handheld might be worth considering, but it doesn’t have the same features as the V5 or X5, although, it is much cheaper! Full review here: www.andysgolfblog.co.uk/blog/2023/shot-scope-h4-handheld-review/ Any questions about any of the devices, just ask! Cheers

Thanks for your review, Andy. I have the h4 and while I still like it, I find it painfully slow starting up and finding which golf course I'm on. My usual course has 3 different sections to it 9 holes each (you get assigned to 2 of them when you start). If I set it up too soon, the H4 times out before I tee off. If I wait until the last moment to select the course, by the time it latches on to the correct course (slow scrolling words on screen and you can only distinguish the 3 9's by the last word as it scrolling through), I'm already half way down the fairway on the first hole. Is the V5 quicker in starting the round out, locating the course and scrolling the name of the course? It sounds small, but getting the device going is really distracting to a good start on the 1st hole. Same problem when I play the back 9 since I have to tell it which back 9 I am on. Thanks!
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Hey Richard, Thanks for checking out the video and for the comment. This video is more of a first look/overview - my full review will be produced once I've thoroughly tested the V5 but so far, so good. I can't be sure if at your home course it'll be quicker than the H4, however, in my experience using it so far, it has managed to connect to GPS much quicker than my H4 or X5 devices. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised at just how quickly it managed to obtain a connection to the course. I suspect the naming convention used will be the same as it is on the H4/X5. I have the same at my home club which has two courses; 'Dunfermline Golf Course' and 'Dunfermline Golf Course Small'. I too have to wait until they finish scrolling to see which one is the the course I need to select. It might be worth feed the naming convention back to Shot Scope as they might be able to change the labels for your home courses knowing that they're a bit of a pin to select. If you like the sound of the V5 then I'd suggest buying and seeing how you get on with it. Like all other Shot Scope products, it should come with a 30 day money back guarantee, so you should be able to try it out and see how well it connects etc. It's also available for £199.99 for a limited time with this link. It'll soon be £239.99 as far as I'm aware. bit.ly/3PCPWwK Should you have any other questions or concerns about the V5 or any other Shot Scope products, please do just ask away and I'll try my best to help! Cheers, Andy

Do the new tags fit a counter balance putter ?
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Hey Robert. The putter tag (only one which can be used with the putter) cannot be screwed into a counter-balanced putter, however, you can cut the screw off and either glue or use 3M tape to attach it.I've previously used 3M and it worked fine, but a dod of silicone sealant would also work fine. Shot Scope do also sell counter-balanced putter tags but I think they're around £20/$30 for 3 (bit.ly/4arTCtg) but the cut and stick method above should work fine. Alternatively, you can also set the watch up to manually track putts, whereby you press a button at the location of each putt. This method works best for those who don't want to glue/stick the tag on or who use a putter where the tag will be too far away from the watch strap (depending on their grip style e.g. anchor stroke). Hope this information helps but please do let me know if you need anything else or have any other questions. If you do decide to buy a V5, it's on special discount right now for £199.99 here: bit.ly/3PCPWwK Thanks, Andy

@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Oh really? I've never had any issues but I guess silicone might be a better bet. The time changing method is still the same (done via synching with app). You should only need to do this a minimum of twice a year and probably a good opportunity to check for course updates too!

I have had the v2, v3, and x5. Like others i have been fristrated with the touchscreen. Unlocking while on course is a real chore, and i am lokely picking up the V5, because i do like the manual scoring. To me the 2nd gen tags havemt improved the club sensing. Forget about using rhe watch at all in the rain. I just tuen it off and use an app on my phone. I can say i have never used the feature for mutliple clubs distances, beacuse i know my numbers due the performance data offered by rhe watches.
@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Yeah, the touchscreen isn't the best in terms of responsiveness, which I do think is one of the biggest downsides to the X5 (have a review coming soon), and one of the main reasons I tend to just use the crown to control it. Aside from the screen and the battery struggling to offer 2 full rounds (although I have managed to do so twice), I do think the X5 is a great watch. I've never really had any issues picking up my shots and often think that many of the tracking issues others experience are down to user error. I do think the 2nd gen tags are better in terms of their fit on the grip and length of screw, but haven't noticed a tracking improvement probably because tracking has always worked well for me. If Shot Scope has suggested improved range with tags then I'd like to think this is factual and not fabricated, so hopefully some users will benefit from them. All in all, though, I do think the V5 is a great offering and have been impressed so far. I especially like the button control and suspect that this also helps with battery life, which is a good thing. I, like you, have a good idea of my performance yardages already, but I do think being able to see your three longest club distances (based off your last 10 rounds) overlaid on the map is a great idea, and definitely useful. It's not a deal breaker but a next extra. Overall, the two watches aren't too dissimilar but on the basis of battery life and the responsiveness of the screen, I'd probably lean towards the new V5 if choosing between the two as a new customer. I've tested the X5 over 40+ rounds and aside from the above points, have very few bad things to say about a watch that has served me well. Will be interested to see how the V5 performs longterm too.

@AndysGolfBlog8 ай бұрын
Hey there. The device comes with a quick start user guide and an onboaring process which is really intuitive (in my opinion). If you open the quick start guide found within the box and look at the third page (step 3), Shot Scope provide a scannable QR code and links to the full user guide in various languages. It can also be found here: shotscope.com/userguide/english/Shot_Scope_V5_en_user_guide.pdf The watch does automatically track your shots, but that's on the golf course. The Read Tags option found within the Settings menu (which you have tried out) is simply an option to test that your tags are working ok. When out on the golf course, just be sure to take some practise swings, wear the watch on the correct wrist (left if you are right-handed and right wrist if left-handed), and check to see if the tag ID is displayed on the screen after taking your practise swings/shot. This should indicate whether or not the shot has been tracked, which is an automatic process. I'm currently in the process of creating a top tips video for the V5 similar to the one I produced for the X5 (which might still be useful just now: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqGUhKCrbsljrrc), and a full tutorial for the V5. Hopefully this comment has helped clear a few things up, but failing that, be sure to read trough the full user guide here: shotscope.com/userguide/english/Shot_Scope_V5_en_user_guide.pdf Cheers, Andy

@AndysGolfBlog7 ай бұрын
Hi Scotty, No, no need to have the app open during your round. The watch stores the data then the GPS information/shot tracking is all compiled when uploaded to the app. If yours is getting to 99% then stopping, I'd suggest doing the following: 1. Uninstall the app from your phone. 2. Go to bluetooth settings on your phone, tap on the V5 from the list and use the 'forget this device' option (IOS) or Android equivalent. 3. Re-install the app and log back into your account. 4. Choose More (bottom right) > Add a New Device > V5. 5. Re-pair your V5 with your phone. 6. Try to sync rounds from your watch to the app once again. If the above steps don't work, drop Shot Scope an email at support@shotscope.com. Let me know how you get on.
