POI. Not all Digital issues could not be replicated by beta testers. The dual decoding fault is a recognised bug and is to be remedied in coming FW. There are to be 6 models in this range, 70, 100 and 200 MHz, 2 or 4 channels.

Just bought the SDS814X HD largely based on your demo. Thanks so much for your detailed walk-through which now forms a large part of my instructions. I'm very impressed with the added capabilities over my old but trusty HP 1742A! I needed to capture stepper motor step pulses during motor acceleration and the memory depth and zoom capability made it amazingly easy to see the step pulse period changing from ~500uS to ~50uS. Still figuring things out but am very very happy. Looks and feels like a much more expensive tool. Have not figured how to set time and get it to stick, it just reverts to 1970... that's the only bug I've found so far. Installed the Feb 23 firmware update and it loaded flawlessly. Love it! Cheers

I was excited like you in the first few days. Until i found quite a few bugs. First i thought it is much better than the rigol. But it seems the Siglent bugs were just a bit more hidden. I dont know. There is one huge bug: the trigger holdoff is not working.

Sorry Peter, I case you didn't know you require a LAN connection to have access to a NTP server to get actual real time. You can set all this up in the Time/Date menu. The scope should sync with the NTP server for the correct time within a minute or 2 of boot.

@@inakiteira6612 Mine that Defpom looked at came directly from Siglent a few weeks before release. They are currently in high demand so keep looking but I suspect it might be a while until there is spare stock of these to pop up on eBay or Amazon. TBH you would be best advised to get one from a local dealer. Consult the Siglent websites for your local guys.

This is a great video of a demo of a Siglent SDS800X HD series oscilloscope. Thank you! I watched this video when I was considering the scope. And now with the scope on my desk, I am watching the video again to better understand what features are available and how to get to them. Easier to watch a video than read dry documentation. I can read the documentation for more specifics.

I'm holding out for the Rigol DHO814 vs Siglent SDS814x HD shoot-out. :) It seems Siglent waits for what Rigol is going to put out there, then a few months later puts out a product that is competitive in price for the same basic features (number of channels, bandwidth, etc) but exceeds in other specs and capabilities. But it's hard to compare their datasheets side by side.

Nice review thanks! I have the SDS 1202X-E but a couple of times 2 channels has felt like a restriction so I’ve been looking for a 4 channel scope. This looks like it might be a smooth upgrade. I do make frequent use of the Ext input though, for many of my tasks it’s close to having a 3rd channel.

As hobbyists we have never had so much choice and performance. Thank you Siglent. As the sample rate halves on channels 1 and 3 I assume there is only a single ADC in here, like the SDS1000 X-U. Is this the format across the range or will Siglent do a twin ADC version to mirror the SDS1000X-E? Whatever it all looks very nice. And well done on getting a review out before EEVBlog who's passion now seems to be pool cleaning robots.

NTP servers have a domain name as the name resolves to multiple addresses for fault tolerance and load balancing. You can probably enter a domain name in the box anyway, and you should.
@tautech8196
@tautech8196 5 ай бұрын
However Siglent models that support NTP require the URL of your local NTP server which can be found in seconds with a online search. NTP can be a one off sync or periodically as you wish. See the app note for X-E models: siglentna.com/application-note/datalogging-with-the-four-channel-sds1000x-e-oscilloscope-models/

@@tautech8196 Seems to be an IP. in this app note, not a URL. I guess if you do have a local NTP server and the address is hard coded this is fine. If you are using an NTP server outside your own network you should be using a DNS name. How I know? Worked at at cloud provider. Built an proper NTP client for an MCU (Not a simple polling but actual NTP, that takes into account the delay and jitter).

Yes, this is the first impression until you spend some time with these new HD DSO's. Many more features and substantially more memory depth. The new UI aligns with the more expensive upmarket models.Being able to use a mouse with it is a significant advantage although Defpom didn't demonstrate it. Pricing is attractive. As yet not tested however I believe the cheaper 70 MHz model will challenge SDS1104X-E BW -3dB point.

Ok, thanks for the reply. I guess as a hobbyist there are only a certain number of features I need and nothing was shown that would add value for me. I have a DHO914s and I'm considering bought a SDS814X HD. The Rigol interface its bad. They waste too much space on the DHO screen with non important things, like logos, draws, etc. Some people like and need the scope to be aside, so the Vesa would be a nice option. But the measurements results on the right of the DHO screen consume too much screen space, and the screen isn't big.Rigol put icons, draws, and some non sense stuff on a small screen. The DHO still have annoying bugs, freeze to much (I need to press Default button almost every use). I like the way Siglent does the measures results and other things. Even without the embedded generator I'm considering the SDS814X with care and attention.

@@RodrigoForrequi The siglent has an optional AWG you can buy. However, I am unimpressed with the built-in signal generator to the Rigol scopes and optional signal generator for the Siglent scopes. Just my 2 cents, you are better off getting a stand alone arbitrary waveform generator. Even if you have to go cheap and get a cheap Chinese $100 AWG Off ebay. Unless you want to do something like a Bode plot, then that might require a Siglent AWG to go with your scope unless you can figure out a way for your Siglent scope to control your non-Siglent AWG.

@@John.Doe.2025 Whilst the 12 bit ADC has lower noise than the 8 bit (Siglent spec is around 8.5bits ENOB) it's unlikely to be close to 4 bits better (I'd guess 6.5 to 7 bits ENOB for the 8 bit ADC). Also, note that the FFT noise floor is *not* the SNR of the ADC - the FFT has 'processing gain' as it is breaks the signal bandwidth into many narrow bandwidth bins. The longer the FFT the lower the noise; eg. a 4096 point FFT has a noise floor 33dB below that of the ADC. See Analog Devices MT-001 page 6 for an explanation.

Sadly, UI is still as laggy as it was 10 years ago. Seems like they don't really know how to write software. The whole thing stops acquiring and freezes whenever you interact with the UI, especially any of the horizontal and vertical knobs. Looks like the Keysight Megazoom series are still the only viable option if you don't want to get disrupted by a garbage UI.

The scope works for me. Most people watching this video cannot afford a very expensive scope from Keysight. This scope brings the high end scope features to a low end scope under $1000. And some compromises had to be made to get the scopes under $1000 such as a 7" screen vs a 10" screen for the higher end scopes. I am happy with this scope; it is a big improvement over my old used HP 54600B scope.

Display lag is by design. All measurements are ceased and restarted when setting changes are made. The ever running History in the background also has to be flushed and restarted. Even the cheapest models in this range offer a magnitude more mem depth than in a KS and for a fraction of the cost.

@@tautech8196 It's not "by design", it's the result of the software developers not understanding correct software engineering techniques. You have to decouple the UI from long running background processes. It's just poor design. You're right that it's the best value compared to Keysight, but that doesn't excuse poor software engineering practises.
