It still staggers me how Hyundai/Kia knocked it out the park with the Kona/Soul/e-Niro, given they’re not even riding on a dedicated EV platform and they’re still pretty much top of the class. The efficiency they are capable of is still amazing, and I don’t think has been bettered by any legacy manufacturer.

What's interesting is how huge the ID.4 / Enyaq is compared to the e-Niro. Going to a typical multi-story car park, means you have to hold the door carefully on the e-Niro to get out - and looking at the Enyaq it just fills the whole of a car parking space from side to side with hardly any space to get out. It means that the Enyaq and e-Niro are actually different beasts. For city living, the e-Niro is highly efficient, nippy, and can zip into different spaces - so it's more of a golf equivalent with more flexibility. The Enyaq is better as a family car filled with luggage - more of a Prius Estate equivalent. They are the right car for different scenarios. The eNiro is simple in its 4 specifications. The Enyaq requires complex configuration (£400 here, £500 there) before you've tailored it to you exact needs - so it's easy for the base Enyaq to become quite expensive, when you start putting all the additions that the eNiro has in it's 3 or 4+ specifications. However for both of them - adaptive cruise control and lane control just makes stop start traffic simpler and more relaxing (particularly if you see a petrol car burn its clutch out, or overheat). So the key is to know what size and use you want from your car and the eNiro OR the Enyaq will be better for different purposes.

I've bought an e-Niro, so my opinion is biased, but I would have bought an ID.3 were it not for the silly and dangerous lack of physical controls, and the unfinished software. The Skoda suffers from a similar pointless design, and to get a similar specification to the 4+ spec e-Niro requires spending many thousands more. My Kia is both hi-tech and familiar at the same time, does really well on range, and isn't enormous.

Agree 100%. I made the exact same choice for much the same reasons (plus the e-Niro is a little larger than the ID3). Of course, if size is that important maybe the Enyaq: but every extra comes at a price.

The Enyaq is an SUV and the E-Niro is a crossover that is classed as an estate on official paperwork. The Kona which is ever so slightly smaller than the eNiro can be had for £32500 in 64KWh premium edition. Personally, I think the comparison is skewed here.

Indeed.... the 4+ E-Niro, has tons of spec, the only option is metallic paint and can be purchased for around £37-£38. A top spec Enyaq will be almost £50k. If you don't need the space, the Kia is the most sensible buy. Tried & tested, easy to drive, familiar control layout with knobs & controls=simplicity. Easier to park & manoeuvre, more efficient, despite whats said in the review regularly achieves 300 mile+ range if driven sensibly, so cheaper per/mile running costs, faster acceleration, and to top it all off a 7 year warranty. It has won many many awards and best EV awards for a reason. The only reason to buy the Enyaq is for the extra space, which you will pay dearly for, and even more £sss, sss to similiarly spec it to the Kia. The e-Niro really is a no-brainer.

@@David-bl1bt totally agree David. Felt the review was a little one sided and during the compares eg charging speed it wasn't mentioned that everything on the Skoda is an optional extra. Be interesting to spec the Skoda up like for like and then compare the prices

My advice is test drive both, then decide. If you drive the top notch version of eniro and hear the sound from 7.1 JBL, then compare to Enyaq, you'll hear huge difference in sound quality. Besides the reason some eniro may sound louder than enyaq is the stupid Michelin tyres. Once you change them to Hankook Ventus Prime tyres the difference will be enormous. Also kia is much more sporty, responsive drive. It annoys me that all reviews give eniro a lot lower range than it actually does. In the sommer my eniro does 570 km (350 miles), so all these reviewers dont know how to use the regen.

The Chinese manufacturer BYD (Build Your Dreams) is starting shortly to break into the European Market with a greatly reduced price EV so I’m waiting for this company’s affordable EV. BYD are already here in the U.K. building electric only buses for the U.K. market and Europe. So if your in London or any other major city in the U.K. or Europe then if you see or ride on an electric only bus it will be a Chinese made bus by BYD.

Kia Niro is just smaller. Niro has better battery and is more reliable. Its faster and more powerful. Has much better entertainment and info system. Has more included extras. Has 7 years warranty and cheaper parts. Interior feeling is subjective. Skoda has bigger boot and drives like a bigger car. That's it. I am surprised that the additional packages were not fully mentioned. Just 2 of them. Extra payment for heat pump, private glasses, lights, cruise control and many others. You need to pay additional 5k for a Good upgrade. Kia is the winner for me. 😉

Most electric cars are poor quality cabins for any make & are unaffordable to the masses, expensive & totally impractical for many. Any thing decent is £40.000 upwards & then not eligible for the Government grant. I keep saying 2/3 of the worlds electric is still produced by coal fired power stations & the UK needs billions to put the infra-structure in place. The UK makes up two percent of the worlds emissions. Many people live miles from a motorway so the charging times a biased. How long do they take on a 13 amp socket. I think the Kia is about 32 hours. Completely unrealistic review. I notice Toyota & Nissan-Renault alliance did not sign at COP26. What does that tell you? I often had issues where I would want to control the heating and ventilation and the screen said this function is unavailable! What!! Couldn't turn off the air con, adjust the fan speed or the temp. Got two faults on the Ibiza at the moment too (9 months old). 3 weeks ago I returned the Formentor after a painful 5 week battle and took delivery of a BMW. Idrive works great and I have manual heater controls (praise the lord!) I would like to get shot of the Ibiza but cant afford 4 new cars in 9 months! Stay away! E Niro has manual heater controls, might be a little more "sensible" in its styling but I bet it works it better knowing Kia/Hyundai. VW group have tried to save money in the last 2-3 years and its back fired. The last car I had Skoda Superb was exceptional, but sorry to say you have lost Two very good customers.

Thanks for this comparison. I’ve seen enough reviews now of the VW stable infotainment problems to steer clear until they sort it out. We want to move away from petrol to an electric car in 2022.

The exceptionally nice thing about an eNiro is that it is "ordinary" enough in it's appearance to not attract the morons who like to wantonly damage cars. It doesn't look exceptional and doesn't attract attention and yet it quietly and effectively does a class leading job. Great qualities if you ask me.

I call mine the RonSeal mobile - it does exactly what it says on the tin, it does it all very well (not class leading, just consistently very well) and it doesn't ask for anything in return. When i was shopping around the same spec Enyaq wasn't even comparable price-wise, nor on the warranty.

... and, buttons please. Working your way through screens when driving, especially with glitchy software can only be considered as both frustrating and potentially dangerous. I wish manufacturers would get the message and tone down the quickly outdated tech. In ten years time some of these cars will have systems that you cannot use because the tech is out of date or too expensive to repair. Stick to switches to avoid disappointment.

Skoda cars are of course better built against this korean Kia but the new 2022 refresh new E-Niro is coming out soon. Worth a check. Skoda, VW and Audi are better built against the Kia. The better higher end Genesis GV60 would be a better car against the Germans, European cars.

One thing you didn't mention is that the E-Niro has a place for one of the mini spare tires under the rear floor. The spare for other Kias fits so it is not difficult to carry a useful spare tire when traveling. There have been too many times when I have destroyed a tire by hitting something on the road and the air pump and sealer are useless.

Yeah I looked at the e-Niro about a year ago and range and boot space ruled it out for me. The enyaq came out and my deposit went down for the sportline in July 2021. It is exactly what I've been looking for in my quest for an EV
@onlineo2263
@onlineo2263 2 жыл бұрын
The Enyaq actually charges at 50kW. If you want it to charge at 100 or 125kW you have to get this as an optional extra fitted in the factory. I know a number of people who got the Enyaq and didn't realise the speedier charger was an option. The standard Enyaq is terrible. You need £2-6000 of options to be a decent car. Used Enyaqs are going to be difficult to purchase as no one will want one that charges at 50kW when everything else charges wy faster and all the chargers have been upgraded.

Moving from a PHEV to a BEV my final shortlist was Enyaq, eNiro and Volvo XC40. I opted for the eNiro based on reputation, price , warranty and customer interface plus I prefer the option of standard buttons rather than pure touchscreen. Volvo was way to expensive and on test drive I had compatibility problems with my home charge unit. Kia were very responsive to my request for a test drive and enabled a half day option. I am still waiting for a response from Skoda for rest drive of the Enyaq and that request was made in July. Thumbs down on customer support and communication.

skoda is a junk, most EU cars including high emd ones are just playing the catch-up game. Tesla, korean car makers are now in 4-5th generation of EV cars. Much more stable software, batteries etc. The only reason to buy EU cars would be as a fashion statement. Price to features korean cars are way better.

Fun fact about the e-Niro: there is a 'hack' to increase the boot space by a fair amount by taking out the foam inserts from the underfloor compartment. There's also an aftermarket little frunk available.

I'm planning to get an EV for my next car and I've been looking at reviews and comparison videos like this for a while now. I am planning, up to now, to go for E-Niro. It still out does most other EV's in its class. I like the look of it too. Too many EV's have an overly designed look to them, which is just unnecessary. The E-Niro looks familiar and isn't some scary looking (come and steal me) expensive car design. The interior again isn't scary, it's familiar but still has some nice high-tech systems (which have been proven and are stable!). It's battery range and efficiency is second to none really and something all other cars in this class seem to be way behind on. Also most other companies are still doing the old 'added extra charges' for things that come standard on the Niro. As for the mention of the Frunk... the Niro has been around long enough that you can get an easy to fit cheap 3rd party Frunk for it too. If that's what you want. It's very small, but it works. lol. That's the thing it might have been around a while, but that also means there is a fair few 3rd party extra's that can be bought relatively cheaply now to bump up the quality of Kia E-Niro too.

As an EV owner ( Nissan Leaf gen 2) I would highly recommend having all of the technology options, i.e. self driving, self parking, driving assistance of all sorts. Maybe you can sacrifice on the leather seats and chrome parts, but EV are good with the technology.

A great back-to-back comparison review, Doug - thank you. Like other's have already said, though - pretty much everything you ACTUALLY want on the Enyaq is a cost option and you have less than £1,000 in options value before it disqualifies itself for the Government's PiCG.

The extras don't count towards the cost of the car to qualify for the government grant. I ordered one in June (iv60), and the total cost was just under £40k, but still got the grant as it comes off the base price, hopefully get my car next week as there have been hold ups due to chip shortage
