I've three ideas for the timeline placement: 1: After Generations, Before Forces. The inconsistencies are a consequence of the Time Eater shenanigans. 2: After Murder of, Before Dream Team. Prime establishes Rouge as a possible 5th ranger, like Cream and Sticks before her, and Dream Team runs with that. Best explanation I got for the inconsistencies is that shattering the Paradox Prism REALLY messed with Sonic's head, and it affected the past as well. Everything we see in Episode 1 is a retroactive consequence of the shattering. We know from the finale that it can mess with time. 3: Pre-Sonic Origins. This is a "creation of the Sonic Multiverse" story, and the game canon is one of the new Shatterspaces created in the final episode.

Solid and makes sense, I could see it even being post Generations leading into Origins, going full circle and again yeah multiverse parallel timelines shenanigans. Especially when you consider that 3&K initially was not canon, the canon was 2 seperate adventures not the combined one. Renditions since its release have depicted this or also include the combined one like Mega Collection Plus did... Origins however only provides the combined version. So that's a new timeline. Also why, despite disliking Forces too, Tails' quote of Classic Sonic being a Sonic from another universe makes sense, because he is. He is both past and now because of event changes an alternate Sonic. Parallel Timelines and multiverse doesn't mean Classic Sonic won't grow up, just means he experienced things differently from the "Modern Sonic" (Why I prefer to call them Sonic A and Sonic B lol, rather than Modern and Classic, so we'll go with that rest of the comment, B is classic, A is modern). Sonic A experienced the events of 1, CD, 2, 3, S&K, 4 Adventure 1, 2 etc until Generations. However he didn't experience Forces, Mania, or Generations in his youth, only Generations and Forces when he was older so they're not on the A timeline. Meanwhile B Sonic experienced Generations in his youth, Mania, then Forces in his youth, then Mania encore mode. He has experienced events differently from Sonic A, however this doesn't mean he still won't experience other timeline events, he still can run into Chaos, Shadow, Metal Overlord, get killed by Mephiles, kiss a human girl, werehog out, then rexperience Generations when he's older. This also explains Silver still existing, that is an alternate timeline. It's not like back in the 80s when we thought messing with time ctrl alt deleted stuff, time is ever flowing, unchangeable, that's how we THINK time travel could work. Why multiverse and parallel timelines have been on the rise in media, Avengers, Sonic, other game franchises have been doing it for decades like Zelda and Pokemon. So I don't see why people are up in arms, it's Sega themselves that said everything is canon... and this is how lol.

Well, to be fair, he still had the same reactions to them back then as well, example, when he faces off against Lancelot, a Shadow variant, he still sees him as Shadow, even though in that instance he's not. Same thing with Eggman in Secret Rings, that wasn't our Eggman, but a variant of him. This Sonic from Prime might have had his first experience with alternate variations of his friends. At least to what Ian Flynn is saying the placement is, sometime after Advance 3, but still considered moot since it kinda just wiped itself, similar to 06.

Yeah... It's almost like SEGA created the Lore Team just so that said team can take the blame for inconsistencies - despite SEGA ignoring some arguments in the first place. Also, about Prime wiping itself out from the Sonicverse/lore - Sonic 06 did the same thing after they blew out the Flames of Disaster in the past after the Final Story. it happened, but, it didn't - it's complicated. But it is iconic and widely remembered because we experienced the game in it's buggy, physics-broken glory EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that Elise, at the final scene, feels a rush of wind and says "It feels familiar, somehow" something-something, wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff

The good thing with 06 is that it dind't wipe ou the characters , but instead "rewrote" the timespace for the new characters involved , so Blaze was reset to being from an alternate dimesion (rush) , and Silver taking a different route to stop Sonic (in Rivals) , while keeping the major character's untouched (Shadow having his memory restored) .

When I first heard about that Sonic Prime was canon to the mainline universe I was kinda annoyed with it but not like mad. I’m just confused why Ian Flynn say that Prime takes place some where after Sonic Advance 3 but if you think about that Shadow would had his memory lost because Advance 3 takes place after Heroes. The one thing I don’t like about Prime is that Sonic will mention that he had never seen Birds in badniks when he literally saw them in the first episode of Sonic Prime. I’m not mad about how Knuckles was in GreenHill in the show. I’m just kinda confused why Rouge was working with Sonic and crew instead of Shadow or she could’ve work on her own. Overall, I’m not really mad about the reveal that made a lot of people mad. Great video Chris!

I mentally see Sonic Prime as its own thing tbh, i never saw it as canon and i saw the Sonic in it being another Sonic, like how people see Boom!Sonic. The craziest thing is the adaptation of Sonic CD, the way you can travel from Past to Future through gaining speed. I think most of the inconsistencies because they couldn't bring out the Paradox Prism Story and combine it with the other canon Stories of Shadow, Metal and the Chaos Emerald that Shadow found.

For instance, the Archie Comics are clearly a separate series of events from the mainline games - considering events like Robo-Robotnik taking over after the original died, the Mega Man crossover, The Super Genesis Wave, and more. If I were to pinpoint where Sonic Prime took place in the canon, it’d probably be after Sonic Lost World because that game had a pretty goofy tone so it makes sense for Sonic to carry over that tone, Sonic got in a big fight with Tails (and the first episode has Sonic apologizing to Tails for ignoring him), he ends that game hanging with Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, and Sonic getting along with Shadow near the end of Prime ties well into them working together in Forces (correct me if I’m wrong because idk all of their interactions in Forces).

It’s sad because, for what it’s worth, I actually liked Sonic Prime for what it was. I liked it as its own thing with its own Sonic and its own characters. But to tie it into the mainline games? I don’t think that works or is necessary. Yes, Sonic Prime had its flaws. But some of those flaws can be ignored if you seperate it completely from the game timeline. At least it’s not so closely tied in that we can mostly ignore it when concerning game canon. Sonic Prime is fine, but it’s just not my cup of tea. Pros: The animation is gorgeous, the voice acting was really good, the character designs are really cool, this version of Shadow is the best we had in a while ever since Sonic 06, he’s definitely my favorite character in this show and I hope he’s written well in the third Sonic movie and Nine was a good character in seasons 1 and 2. Cons: Many of the shatterspace variants with the exception of Nine, felt extremely one-note to me. There were some variants with depth like Rebel Rouge, Renegade Knucks, Thorn Rose, Rusty Rose and Knuckles The Dread, but their arcs felt very rushed and Rebel and Knucks were just there, Nine’s character in season 3 was meh. Like in season 1 and 2 he was cool, but in season 3 he was just meh, his villain arc had a great setup, but in my opinion it went on for way to long and I just got tired of it. Sonic’s character wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t very good. He had great moments, but other than that he felt more like Sonic from the 2010s and that era of Sonic was garbage. I still don’t understand why they had to make as tho Rouge was part of Sonic’s crew when games like SA2, Heroes, and 06 proved that she mostly work alone or with Shadow and Omega, heck Rouge was the reason Team Dark exists so having her be a member of Sonic’s team to me felt odd to me don’t get wrong I don’t mind her interacting with other Sonic characters like Sonic and especially Knuckles as Knuckouge is my 4th favorite Sonic ship behind Tailsmo, Aunnie, and Vectilla, but I just don’t want her to leave Team Dark as her friendship with Shadow is my favorite thing about her. Sorry for the long ramble I just wanted to bring up some points.

I think what Ian Flinn was trying to say is that "you can't connect all sonic media perfectly, and there will be such inconsistensies." And honestly, I would also choose the way to make such lore connections with slight inconsistensies, rather than other way around which would make even more of such inconsistensies. People just did not understood the idea, it's not Sonic Prime lore team ignored Ian Flinn's notes, it's inconsistenses, that we're ignored just for the sake of good enough connection of the media.

More Sonic fans need to learn to be less anal about having inconsistencies in a long-running media franchise with several iterations being handled by different people. Sometimes it's necessary to handwave details that don't connect and recognize that you're talking about different forms of media that will make certain changes to fit the audience they're targeting. That doesn't mean everything has to be separate timelines just because a character said something that doesn't make sense when considering the totality of every single Sonic game put together. If anything, that just makes all of this a thousand times more complicated than it needs to be.

That’s what I’ve been saying about IDW Sonic. Tying yourself to the Games can present a host of problems for writers what happens in the newest games has to be acknowledged and that includes the retcons. Whatever character progression is made will be undone by the latest mainline. If you made it a separate entity based on the Games, you have room to craft the world and develop the characters freely. Though Sega Mandates might need to scram because it’s ridiculous how limiting they are.

Sonic prime might also take place after sonic rush. In the first episode of season 1, around the 20 minute mark when sonic is being chased, sonic notices a little tunnel he can escape thru. Well, by that tunnel you can see a purple cat with hair similar to blaze. Now the cat doesn't have the same outfit blaze would have, but still a cool little easter egg and shows us that it could take place after sonic rush.

Honestly, it feels like that time gap and the one between Generations and Lost World are missing key adventures of some kind. Like, Eggman got stuck in white-space at the end of Generations, and then he just randomly shows back up again in Lost World with ZERO explanation. And then we go from the silly lighted hearted ending of Lost World just straight to Sonic living in Green Hill during Forces and COINCIDENTALLY, Knuckles is also just chilling their instead of Angel Island, and everyone acts like Green Hill is the whole world for some reason. Like, what? What happened in between those two games for them to just suddenly start hanging around in that area specifically. I mean, it does make sense though given that Green Hill is like Tailor Made for Sonic so.....😅😅

@@RClipsGaming101 Yeah I think something else could go between Generations and Lost World because Prime definitely wouldn't explain anything better. But I can explain Green Hill a tad bit. Green Hill is on South Island. Sonic 2 is on WestSide Island and Sonic 3&K are on Angel Island. However, SA2 is on South Island again as Green Hill is a near by location. I considered that Green Hill was representing all of South Island in that game cuz some games do portray all of South Island as Green Hill, but sometimes it's also just the outer part of the island. The other thing is that SA2's main city is Central City which is also in Sonic Battle and Shadow The Hedgehog. Central City is connected to Station Square, from SA1 which, in turn, is connected to the Mystic Ruins loosely (Sonic territories are weird). Mystic Ruins is a place humans hadn't explored before clearly, and turns out to house the ruins of the Echidnas where Angel Island originally came from. South Island is said to move around so it makes sense that Angel Island, which has fallen in two games, did not fall in the same place. However, they are nearby. Because in Sonic 3 &K, the Death Egg was in the area near Angel Island and fell into the ocean. In Sonic Battle, which has Central City (as well as Green Hill, so confirming it's South Island) also had a location called Holy Summit where Eggman resurfaced the original Death Egg. Same area. This is convoluted but the point is that it shows that the Death Egg and Angel Island landing spots are near similar areas showing that SA1 is the same island as Battle which is the same as SA2 and Shadow The Hedgehog, 2 of which have Green Hill which is on South Island. In later games we see Green Hill more and more often. So it's likely a place they live close to as seen in Sonic Battle. And why Knuckles is able to visit, as he's actually not far. And maybe they refer to Green Hill as the whole world because the show writers didn't know any better but you could also chalk that up to them just referring to the area the gateways lead to. After all, No Place, Boscage Maze and New Yolk are also specific locations rather than the entire world.

It's interesting because currently I'm in the process of making a video, where I defend Green Hill's appearances in recent Sonic games on my second channel @IAmSpeed10161. I think that all of this would have been really cool to know about prior to me making the script cause this only serves to strengthen the idea that Sonic lives in or around Green Hill. So having it reappear from time to time makes sense. Would you be interested in checking out that video when it comes out, and maybe giving your thoughts in the comments? It would definitely serve to strengthen many of the arguments I've decided to bring up in and maybe there are some things you can add to the discussion that I might not have known about. That's another thing that bothered me about the show. Not the MLP thing, but having the ENTIRE cast of Sonic characters in a new show with completely different voice actors from the games. I get the live action movie did something similar (although still featured Tails' VA for...reasons) but it's really shocking to hear Sonic and his friends sound so dramatically different. Especially since Prime is now somehow tied to the games. I know alternative media forms of Sonic get different VAs at times but why not just keep it consistent? I'm guessing either there is some complicated contract with most of the game Sonic VAs or they just don't wanna be in anything but the games (which would be strange since Roger Craig Smith has definitely done TV shows before).

9:12 how is sonic 06 a part of the main timeline? It was a reboot wasn't it? Even if we accept the new art direction as still the Canon story, it cannot coexist with sonic Generations(which I 100% assume is canon, especially with the new Shadow edition coming out later this year)... sonic 06 cannot be canon because Blaze dies in that game, yet you can clearly see her in sonic generations at the birthday party... Also Sonic Rush introduces Blaze in a totally different way so I assumed 06 was just not canon... Right?

Sonic Prime could take place right after frontiers, or after Sonic Forces because, those robots doesn't have flickes, same with the ones in Frontiers, plus, I think it just makes sense for Prime to take place after Forces. Due to Shadow being some what of an AntiHero in that game, and in Prime, Shadow is somewhat of and Anti Hero. And Rouge hanging out with the Main Cast, I don't know, she could just be hanging out with them, plus, we never saw Omega in Prime, and what else didn't we see Omega in? Forces! Sonic Prime takes place after Forces! Fight it out in the replys, but I do believe that Prime takes place after Forces.

My biggest gripe with prime was the fights didn't feel impactful at all, it just looked like rubber colliding with rubber leaving no scratches, dents or anything. The characters barely even felt it until the plot decided they'd be "injured". Its a kid's show really so I'm not surprised.

According to Sonic Stadium in an interview with Takashi Izuka, he wanted the Sonic Universe to feel like they're one connected universe, and he listed that this would apply to the Mainline Sonic Games, the Sonic IDW Comics, and of course Netflix's Sonic Prime show.

When I first found out that Sonic Prime was canon I complained about it. If I remember correctly, it was before the show even aired, but we already had a basic synopsis. It's not that I dislike his characterization in Prime, but if it is canon, it has to be consistent with the sonic of the games. Back then, I didn't see any more people complaining about it, and some even told me that I was wrong. It's been very refreshing to see that a lot of people agree with me on this.

Personally although I am more than willing to except the show as part of the canon, I think it would’ve been best if they had the mindset of “if you want this to be a part of your personal Sonic head canon, it can be” Kind of like how Murder of sonic the hedgehog is a game saga has stated can be a part of your head cannon if you want but if you don’t like the game it can easily be written off as non-canon as the events don’t have much of an effect on later titles

I feel my biggest confusion is rouge being on the team. When she’s technically a solo adventurer. Or still working with Shadow and stuff. If anything it would’ve made a bit more sense if Shadow was on the team. But in all honesty when it comes to the Sonic. I honestly believe they should rewrite the whole franchise and stories. Like the games and a fresh show to help with canon events. Because with all that we have now. Because there’s so many stories games, and shows that I don’t even think the Sonic team know what can be canon anymore and how to even connect it. So a clean slate in my opinion would make more sense.

Sonic Prime was not as good as I hoped. Sure it's more of a kids cartoon, but they could have taken the plot and saved it for perhaps a game and made something simpler up for the show. Kids show or not, this felt so rushed, especially in season 3 with that dumb battle that went on for what? 3 - 4 episodes. It was so dragged out, so boring, and sure, Shadow's characterization was better, but it didn't save the fact that this show was so boring! I was babysitting my friend's daughter who is 10 and she just walked out of the room when I put this show on! Sonic Prime deserved better and I'm not even gonna complain about the cannon or not cannon thing. I'm probably just gonna forget about this show.

If I had to guess, some bigwig in Sega marketing sold the idea to the higher ups that making everything connected was a great idea. And on paper, for marketing and sales teams it sounds like a great idea as it seems to encourage fans to buy items they wouldn't normally buy. So a comic reader would get the video game to find out about a new character or a tv show fan would finally read the comic to catch up on the current lore etc. The reality though is that it's highly off-putting to fans. There's only a very small number of people willing to buy EVERY comic, video game, and tv show to keep up with the latest Sonic stuff. However the vast majority of people won't and this will actually discourage them from buying Sonic products as they feel like they have to buy and invest huge amounts of time to get caught up on the product they actually want to experience. The second big issue is actually managing this. It's hard enough to keep your own lore consistent in a long-running series but now having to keep track of and manage and coordinate dozens of other people, all working on different projects with different goals in mind, is a nightmare. Made worse by the fact Sega hasn't actually given their lore team any real power to force other project managers into following the lore. And to be fair to the Sonic Prime team, who knows what they were told. Like they might not have realized they were going to be literally cannon with the other video games and stuff until it was way too late to really change anything. To me, it feels clear that the show is "inspired" by the Sonic lore but not directly connected to it. They had a very specific vision for what this show was supposed to be and the story they wanted to tell. That brings me to the third big issue with connecting everything, stifling creativity. When everything has to be connected with each other that's going to really restrict most writers. Mario, and Zelda succeed because they make no promise that the games (and other works) are connected to each other. This allows us to see these characters in very different environments and how they adapt and overcome those challenges. Forcing Sonic Prime to be part of the main cannon doesn't enhance or help the show, it only hurts and hinders it from growing by using those cannon events in its own way.

Sonic 06 technically takes place before everything else in timeline despite some of the games also being canon to its backstory due to it also wiping itself out leading into the main timeline in which Solaris doesn't exist. Prime could be a similar thing in which some of the games are also canon to its backstory, just in a version of history in which things are also a little bit different such as Eggman not making use of Metal Sonic or Egg Pawns, which then resets into the timeline as we know it in the mainline series. Basically it would go Sonic 06, then Prime, then everything in the mainline series. It's not exactly the most satisfying explanation but it's the best I can think of to try to make sense out of it.

Other games such as Shadow The Hedgehog still take place before it within its own timeline, or at least a version of it, but all of the events of the mainline games take place in the timeline without Solaris, and as such take place after Sonic 06. A way of thinking of it is that there's a "Solaris Timeline" which contains versions of the events of all the mainline games through Shadow The Hedgehog aside from Rush and Rivals and then ends with Sonic 06, and then because of Sonic blowing out the flame of Solaris at the end of Sonic 06 the Mainline timeline is created which doesn't have Solaris exist within it and does contain Rush and Rivals, introducing the main series Blaze and Silver respectively. Or in short, one timeline has Sonic 06, the other has Rush and Rivals. The 06 (Solaris) timeline needs to exist and then undo itself for the Rush and Rivals (Main) timeline to exist, and so it takes place first.
