I am so happy that Carlo and Brett are staying on Spawn books! These guys are my Spawn guys! I've been lucky enough to get 2 commissions from Carlo at my local con , one of King Spawn and one of Gunslinger, also picked up an OA page from Gunslinger by Brett and Adelso a year or 2 ago. These guys are so underrated. I've been buying every issue of Spawn since 200 , what Carlo brought to Spawn is what I had been waiting for and what Brett did on Gunslinger was godlike work. Always look forward to every issue these guys put out. That's not to say that Javier Fernandez and Steven Segovia are not also killing it on King Spawn and The Scorched. The expanded Spawn Universe is one of the best things that ever happened in comics recently and every issue is 2.99 on cardstock! You can't beat that.

I'd like to add something to what Mr. McFarlane said about superheroes being tiered. I do think that is the correct way of looking at superheroes because you do have your Superman, Spider-Man, and Batmans of the world which are the most well-known superheroes, but that isn't at all where I would categorize Spawn. If anything, Spawn puts me in the mindset of like a Punisher, Ghost Rider, Blade, or a Hellboy. In other words, he's a superhero that basically requires an R rating for him to be successful, but he doesn't really rank among the top tier superheroes mainly due to his darker nature as a character

What they didn’t say that Hollywood always seems to skip too, is that ANY character, ANY film can blow up, IF THE WRITING IS FANTASTIC. But if it’s just more half-assed phoned-in plots with lame dialogue & cheesy one-liners, then not even Spidey would make the cut. You need a moving, thrilling &/or hilarious story, with relatable struggles we all care about, & stakes that really mean something profound. If you don’t have that, don’t try to forcefeed us a pile of crap then pretend like the “character just wasn’t popular enough” or “people are tired of superheroes” when it fails. It’s not that we’re tired of seeing them. It’s that writers are tapped out of writing them. So Hollywood: Astound us, or stay the fk home.

I think the "Spawn" story needs to be told as a series of episodes. Not as a movie. And it should have a major feature film length opening episode, then followed by hour long episodes. And a Sam and Twitch spin-off series that ties in with the Spawn series. And maybe a "Gunslinger" spin-off series. I don't think it's fair to Spawn's story to be told through a solo movie. Just my opinion

Truly all the best to Todd McFarlane for the new film, and I really hope he'll go with his second decision, as in just make the film exactly as he wants to, undiluted dark magic, and then just find a distributor decent enough to release it uncut. One of the problems with the old Spawn film was the lack of an 18 / Adult Only rating. It would have benn so much better if it did. Films like Deadpool and Logan have proven well that adult rated comic films can excell.

I think the best way for the C tier characters is to be introduced by the a characters and in a slow pace not just rushed in there and not introduce them all at one time either! For example let's say like Batman who would introduce you to constantine by looking for him or finding out what he lives or something like that so now we introducing ourselves or it's a Batman has to introduce us to Constantine it's a new character that we never saw before and because of Batman we able to learn from this character and who is he and what does he do so this is how they can actually do it but to not overdo it and introduce so many characters all at once which is kind of silly if you ask me. Now the question that follows is are these characters are they going to over perform the a characters and is that a dangerous move in the business of these characters?

I think the mistake with any previous Spawn movie was to do a 1st person telling. He should be talked about in 3rd person, in horror movie format. Let his legend grow by being seen, mostly through the terrified accounts of others. This is one angle. I want to see Todd get it right. I'd love to see the Spawn thriller movie.

I loved the original comics but McFarlane’s idea for the new movie is absolute shit imo. Basically a movie where Spawn is hardly seen? Why? That’s such a terrible premise. Just give us a movie where he is the central character, adapt the original story and premise and have it directed by someone with a sensibility for the correct visuals and tone.
