You do realize those mics have pop filters on the right? The pop is not a pop filter issue. It's the proximity effect. There is a plosive issue. The mics are too close to their mouth which is creating the popping sound you hear.

I'm also a heavy guy and have often had comments about the larger cassette on my bike, but when they're grinding up hills, I'm smug when I know I'm not ruining my knees and can produce more power by spinning. Power is heavily influenced by cadence, so don't take any notice if people say its unnecessary to have a larger cassette

From someone who has just got back from watching the Vuelta over the weekend, I can safely say it definitely does not have the level of planning & attention to detail that the TdF has. Yes, the TTT finish was 6km thru Barcelona traffic to the team buses (bumped into Remco at some traffic lights on his recon 😂) , the barriers for the first sprint finish were badly played out, that Remco finish area was on a downhill and had nowhere near enough run off after the line. For rider safety, it's really amateur. For viewing, it's chaos 😂

Re: Rapha - of all the cycling brands I’m not sure who else does more for local outreach and community building on a global scale. When I’ve traveled to other countries I’ve visited local bike shops and I’ve visited Rapha shops. I’m always impressed by how the Rapha shops have a wealth of local knowledge in terms of riding locations and routes for different levels of experience and are delighted to share the info without judgement. Yes, other brands do group rides but they’re usually very much aimed at the quasi-competitive cyclists looking for KOMs (in my experience).

Only one note fellas, the 'plosives' are brutal to the ears when listening with headphones. A plosive is the air you breathe directly into the microphone capsule. There are two reasonable solutions. 1) get a metal or high quality fabric windshield, and place it in front of the mic, or 2) practice good microphone technique by angling the mic 60-45º to the side of your speaking direction. The sound quality will still be good. The mic can be quite close to your mouth still, but the air will not explode against the mic capsule. Love the show!

how could you not want to know the weight of the bike? thats the first thing I look at tbh when I scroll the specification list and I hate when manufacturers hide this information. especially when it comes to gravel or mountainbikes - there sometimes is a 3-5kg difference, which is well noticable on any terrain, flat and/or uphill.

I love Rapha products. I don’t know why, but I just love them. Bought my first Rapha in 2012 (club jersey), and still using it to this day, and most of my cycling apparels, including my commuting apparels, are almost exclusively Rapha. The others are local products from Indonesia. I never like pineapple, and putting it on a pizza makes it even worse.

The problem with Remco was that there normally is quite some run off at the finish and people let you through. That day there was no run off but the riders didn't know that. So Remco didn't break because he assumed he'd go straight through and the people didn't move because they assumed no one would ride there. So once again, the most fault is with the crap organisation.

I completely agree with Jimmy's sentiments about Di2 vs SRAM eTap - I don't want to fuss with wires and batteries inside the frame tubes either. Same thing with hydraulic hoses. I don't have a problem with cables, probably just because I am so used to them. My gravel bike is built on an old Salsa Las Cruces frame which had disc brake mounts way back in 2005 or so. I first equipped it with mechanical disc brakes, which were just okay. Since then I've upgraded through a couple of versions of mechanically actuated hydraulic brakes and the Juin Tech calipers I'm using now are actually really great!

Watch LR’s breakdown of Remco’s crash. The way the barriers were set up & the people were standing, he couldn’t see the second right turn to exit. Granted, if his hands were on his bars & not celebrating, he could have easily grabbed the brakes in time, but race organizers should consider a celebration when they set up the stage finish.

The base layer has been around for a while now. Dan Bigham used to break the hour record. HUUB make one for £129.99. Rule 28 and a few others make them. Not for us mortals, but you can bet your house on it, that old masters racer’s who have a S-Works SL7 and believe the hype will be buying them😂

I’ve noticed the new season colours in the Classic jersey that Rapha makes & the new Brevet insulated gilet do not have the same quality as they did in previous seasons. The cut is also slightly different. Pro Team socks have also changed! I like Rapha & as a larger cyclist their kit fits well but I’m going to start phasing out if the quality doesn’t improve!

The UCI *is* currently allowing the aero base layer. Pros have been wearing V1 from Rule 28 for a while now. I have their aero jersey and it does make me faster on my park laps (you don’t need fancy testing, the effect is large enough that any segment you ride regularly will be obviously faster in more aero tech)

I built my first bike about 3 years ago. Hydraulic DI2. it is a TCR semi internal including internal routing through handle bars. It was super easy to run the wires... I literally used a darning needle some yarn and a fridge magnet to pull them through. I also had too short cable but I fixed that by going and buying a bluetooth adapter and a 1 foot cable and using that combo to lengthen my cable run. If you can run mechanical cable internally, you can do di2 whilst drunk. And high. And asleep. And dead. Simultaneously.

Di2 12 speed is pretty simply with the wires. Just 2 wires; one from the battery to the rear mech and one from the battery to the front mech. No more need for junction boxes, etc.

How do the shifter sizes compare between the current small sram ones to the shimano hydro, or shimano 12 speed di2 ones? I personally find the shimano 11 speed hydraulic shifters too big compared to the 11 speed rim brake ones, but no one ever mentions shifter hood size beyond "bigger" or "smaller"

I have the current SRAM Red AXS, and you still can't switch between Garmin screens even though Shimano Di2 shifters can. That's the only nuisance of owning a SRAM group, but other than that, I'm not going back to Shimano. Truly wireless shifting is the cat's pajamas.

I own a couple of CAAD 7's with a BB30, and neither of them creaked. The USA made frames were some of the best out there. Now there are TONS of carbon frames that seem not to be able to make a circular bottom bracket shell, and it's a huge problem... but again, it's a good deal of all brands.

Regarding the Vuelta crash immediately after the finish it went into a decently steep downhill. There were several other rider who barely braked in time. Remco was carrying more speed since he won and also celebrated giving him less time to brake. Either way there was much less runoff area than usual.

13:00 l build up a bike with eRX (kinda annoying in some redards like brakes) but also a bike with 105 Di2. never build up bikes that fast. hydro wireless or semiwireless os so easy and fast nowadays. took me a whole day to properly do semi internal mechanical brakes and shifters back then

Re upgrading the groupset doesn't make much difference: it depends on both the old and new groupset. I went from 10 year old Tiagra and slightly newer Sora (9 speed) to 8000 series 11 speed Ultegra on my commuter / touring / all around bike before a long tour. That made a HUGE difference in shifting, and comfort, as the hoods are so much nicer on the newer stuff. It's definitely expensive, but if you can do the labor yourself ( or teach yourself to do it) it helps bring the cost down. That's what I did.

the new sram red would be a blessing if it can work with classified powershift, as they kind of lead the charge in the 1x game. to my understanding (from what i hear) only di2 can be "hacked" to integrate buttons without cutting your shifter rubbers and adding them yourself.

21:34 the only thing you really get in running is the shoes. The carbon plates for energy return/impact reductions to keep your legs fresh, but they come in many levels. Nike's range is from about $150 -$250 from the low to the highest performance plated road running shoe. Around the rio olympics they were experimenting with aero shorts, jerseys, arm/calf sleeves, and even iron on race bibs instead of pinned on bibs. Though the effect of these is most likely slim to none when running at 13-15 mph at the elite level of distance running (and even less so with mid-high level running at 8-12 mph). The barrier to entry in running is way less than it is for cycling where you need to spend $2000 to get a nice carbon bike with a good group and wheels(yes i know you could get a cheaper aluminum bike but if you want to truly pursue it this is the true imo). You can spend 150 bucks on shoes and run in whatever shorts and singlet and be happy to train and race.

I agree with the majority on here, re. the new backdrop location. Ref, Llangollen, I live about 4 miles around the mountain from the Old Shoe(Last year's National Hillclimb venue) stunning area to live and ride, so take advantage of it. I run a 50/34 chainring, and 11-32 cassette, perfect. Riding for me isn't so much about beating times and mates, it's about how much my 'smile meter' is activated.

Its a shame for bigger guys like Davith from Wales entry level road bikes don't come with a triple anymore. I'm glad I had one when I first started out. Personally I hate the big gap's when using a MTB type cassette on road. Its also way more fatiguing for lots of people to have to push a low gear on the flat, not everyone can naturally spin away at 100rpm for hours on end.
