I think range may have way less of an impact on this unit. Sometimes you may even want smaller range to maneuver around enemies and strike the tower, for example.

yes, range and cloaking are opposed techs; with long range the Ray leaves cloaking mode earlier, which is normally not desired

He also said long range units like marksmen should counter these, like wraiths. However, with the cloaking tech that extra range isn't going to help, and they could easily get within striking range of the marksmen "undetected"

Thats what I thought when cob started ragging HE. Dont get me wrong I really dont like it on anything but stangs either but holy crap burst mode plus He would literally wipe chaff off a field and still deal great damage to medium units.

Why would you invest into 2 techs on fragile air units just to clear chaff. That would be like getting HE and Overload on phoenixes. I only use HE on tarantulas, so cheap and destroys chaff.

Got ideas of like using cloaking, the burst fire, with armor and shield to make a tanky high burst damage unit that gets around the threat of being blown out of the sky by high ranged units like Marksmen and such. The armor and shield just there to make survive popping out of stealth better, though they'd clearly need proper chaff clear to support them or they'd get stuck for ages on the buggers.

I think these will be a solution to winning range vs. range wars, such as EM marks+storms vs something that's close to a mirror. With the target lock breaking with cloak and being able to get in and nuke things down, these will be amazing.

6:37 thats because your placement is pretty poor . if you had the mustangs closer to the fangs they would be much more effective 12:32 i think the range upgrage is pretty worthless if you are using the stealth cloak . you dont need range . making it tanky and propably also giving it more splash damage range would be propably better because it seems like it wastes a lot of time with small units . meanwhile the stealth cloak makes enemy range irelavant

I'd probs try them with Burst mode, cloak, HE and shields, along with acid crawlers galore, maybe acid scorp as backup too. Alternatively, drop HE for oilbombs and run with tanky firebadgers? Should be able to just outright murder anything on the ground, and dip as long as they aren't one shot. You could also hide them alongside wasp columns, they would have a bit less range, but would also recloak to engage, dropping aggro back and forth? I assume most people will just go with a hit squad of around 3-4 packs, and mobile beacon them over targets... Make them tanky af, and you got a little assassin squadron... *Degen wraiths would love these, I don't think anything on the ground save for Farseer/ Typhoons would stand a chance... or am I overestimating their capabilities?

I really like doing ball wasp rush builds and when wraiths were added I tried adding them as support but it didnt work very well. But these phantoms seem like they will be awesome to add with high explosive, so the wasps can DROP their HE tech and can add a more damaging tech to them. I am a specific type of player but these guys seem very useful for me

If you pick oil it could benefit a lot from that equipment that allows free repositioning that nobody takes. Move it around as needed, make lots of oil puddles that disjoint left and right flanks, giving you more time to gang up on one side.

Definitely a very cool unit. Use cases: it's short range and high damage, so it Definitely seems quite good at agro. Will also probably be a good anti agro tool, as it has sticky oil bomb to slow units, but no fire to ignite it unlike the vulcan, which can be useful. Burst mode seems very niche, but could probably work very well versus balls of medium health units (think sledges, steel balls, mass marksmen in FFA) when paired with cloak, and maybe even high explosive ammo. Run in whilst cloaked, dump there missiles onto the opponent, high explosive means they hit and kill most if not all of them, then they recloak and any remaining enemy forces can't hit them whilst they reload. Still, extremely cool unit, i look forward to seeing how it's used.

Range and Stealth have anti-synergy. Stealth and Armor makes them brutal brawlers that can dodge a lot of anti-air units. Volley is the dedicated giantkiller. High explosive is general anti-chaff that can be good on flanks. Oil bomb is good if they're in the backlines and you have fire. Stealth, Armor and a Nano-repair kit makes them obnoxiously hard to deal with if you have decent chaff. These things are pretty likely to pick up levels so they can be quite hard to deal with.

The tech i want on these guys is launcher overload, get rid of the increased range and give it overload so that you can use these as wasp meat shields more easily. I also think new unique techs to go with a tanky low range flier like this should be Anti-fire ground and / or Anti-acid ground skill.

I think it would have been cool it they had Field Maintenance instead of Armor Enhancement. It would let you cloak in, assassinate a target, and then heal back up as you cloak over to your next target.

if you intend to use the stealth than the range is useless. the oil bomb seems counter productive but since i don't know how it reacts to fortress barriers, we will see. this unit might actually be able to pull off High explosive to counter large chaff clears and strong arm counter fangs. i begrudgingly have to say cool unit and at least it is air and ground so i will not run from air units and waste round time like sand worms.

OH.. MY... GOD... this may mark the end of mass marksman comp in FFA. Ranged so chaff protects it still unlike sandworm plus multiple units per pack and the stealth. Edit: it also has shields?! Oh my god I am running stealth, range, shield for these things in FFA for sure. Finally something that might stop the cringe marksman spammers

Mark spam can be annoying as hell but a great answer to them are range storms, some stangs, and forts making shielded fangs. It can be rough getting used to knowing how much of each to use during fights though. The things I see now that are most annoying in high mmr for FFA is mass war factories if the person is able to build them up and also mass worms. Worms being untargetable underground is just obnoxious lol.

Are marksmen good against these? Cloak and shield might make them somewhat resilient against marksmen because of the target drop.

@Sten43211 fair enough, emp prevents cloak but does not help against shield. It would force the marksmen into an auxiliary role. There is a line where you go Wraith to get aa out on Marksmen then you add shield to the Rays to make them relevant and range on the Wraith so the Rays tank. Then cloak to bait out EMP. If EMP comes out the rest of the Marksmen upgrades are now very expensive and don't further help with clearing the Rays.
