I own the company that’s developing the 41 Great Lakes the round drops about 20 percent less at range than a 450 or 400 legend. The recoil impulse averages 2.2 pounds more than a 350 legend , the terminal energy is 30 percent more than a 450 at effective range being 400 yards roughly. The 41 Gl was designed to address the general shooting public concerns over the current offerings . We have tested everything from 135 grain JHP to 400 grain sub the latter being a mathematical model. The ballistic sweet spot during testing would seem to be 180 grain to 210 grain though we have tested 220 and 265 the fastest speed we have attained is a150 all copper monolithic bullet we were able to drive at around 2900 FPS.

@tcburgess293911 ай бұрын
@@blauer2551 yea like I said in my other comment new things are cool but why reinvent the wheel… we run the bear creek ammunition and out to 400 yards it’s still capable of taking a whitetail easily with the right shooter behind it…As well as being a great woods rifle. As far as recoil goes my 9 year old nephew uses his cva single shot 450 and with the break installed the recoil isn’t much more than a 20 gauge game load.
@FullQuiverOutdoors11 ай бұрын
Totally understand. I also run Bear Creek ammo and have for years. But for a guy that doesn’t have a rifle and wants something that’s the best of both worlds, this is gonna be a great option. The tested numbers for comparable stick Ruger Americans for recoil show the .450 is around 50ft-lbs of recoil while this .41 GL is around 10. It’s not even close when it comes to recoil. Feels like shooting a .350 to me.
@blauer255111 ай бұрын
@@FullQuiverOutdoors That would put it near the top of the list of hunting rifles, think you might check the charts. That puts the .450 up there with .458 Win Mag and other monsters. @@blauer2551, the guy who is developing this new cartridge also owns a recoil management company and has independently tested these rifles with these findings. I have 5, .450’s and 4, .350’s and can say this gun kicks like my .350’s. You won’t find any info on the 41 GL yet because it isn’t out yet. Nice.... But instead of making new cartridges why don't we educate the law makers/the public about the fact that new legal cartridge are faster and go farther than what's currently NOT allowed 🤔... So this new 41 GI sounds a hell of allot like the same ballistics as a 444 Marlin Hot hand load (that can't be used due to the case is longer than 1.80") but 2900 fps is way faster like by 600 fps (feet per second) faster and that's a huge difference. So my experience tells me that the new proto type 41 GI should easily reach 350+ yards with the firearm zeroed at 220 yards. So it's frustrating to me that I can't use something that doesn't compare or come close to the ballistics of the legal cartridge/ case restriction ....I don't want to HAVE to go buy a new gun when I already own one that will work, but I'm told I can't because it "travels" to far and I KNOW that's BS, and your video is just another perfect example of my flusterations... The only thing that's traveling to far is my damn truck driving to the rifle zone to use my firearm to legally take deer. This is the biggest reason I also hunt out of state because if I'm going to travel 4-6 hours north and spend 300+ in fuel, why not just head south and do the same and have had better hunts.... Im not bashing you or the 41GI at all, and I really think this is awesome, that thing would be wonderful for mule deer and even elk as a option hope it takes off.

Totally agree. Model .99 owner in .300 Savage. Can’t use it. Ballistically inferior to most of the “new stuff.” Gotta keep the economy moving while the “old stuff” becomes a safe queen. .300 savage 5 years ago was 25.00 a box. If you can find it now, $75.00-100.00.

The reason for the straight wall laws is to limit range. If something exceeds the range significantly, the state might ban it.
@FullQuiverOutdoors2 ай бұрын
I worked on the bill to allow it in our state. It was to help with deer management and allow more effective means of harvest. So in essence, it was to extend the range and accuracy of rifles allowed. It had a sunset that was removed years ago and will remain, irregardless of straight walls developed. Some states like Iowa now allow even necked cartridges.

The 414 is only 1.6” long while the .41 GL is 1.8” so by that alone I’d guess it’s quite a bit superior. I can’t find much for the 414 so I can’t give any real info. The cartridge length of the .400 is also 1.65” so again, less case capacity and smaller diameter. The 215gr Winchester is going 2250fps. If I remember correctly, the .41 with similar weight bullet was tested around 200fps faster. I can’t remember exactly because there’s been so much testing and numbers. But it was significantly faster. And low recoil similar to the .400.

Buffalo Bore ammunition has some interesting 450 ballistics charts that go out to 1000 yards. With a 300-grain bullet going 2500fps with a 100 yard zero, there is a 1075" drop. That same bullet at 1500fps will drop 1917". I know this cartridge is flatter shooting, but I would think a 9 foot drop would be safe.
@kevinkerr284724 күн бұрын
Cool cartridge but 1000 yards is nothing for a bullet travel if you were to have missed even if the bullet ricocheted that farmhouse was directly behind your target and well within range of that bullet!
@FullQuiverOutdoors24 күн бұрын
We’ve discussed this in the comments already but the farmhouse is actually beyond 1400yds when I actually verified it by GPS and was vacant at the time. It is NOT possible with a limited straight wall cartridge with a flat base bullet that exponentially looses energy beyond 400yds. A high miss would fall to the earth around 400-450yds (47-67" drop) and say I missed high by a foot, it would still not make 500yds. The drop at 1000yds is well over 9ft and a ricochet would cause energy to be lost. So it’s really not “well within range” of our limited straight walled cartridges. If it were, there’d be very few places to hunt in southern Michigan.
