I believe the standard acceptance regarding length in irons is about 3-4 yards of extra distance for every 1/2” in length and about 1.5 to 2 yards for every degree of stronger loft. So, if he was getting about 5 yards or so of extra carry out of the same length club, and the stronger loft should give him about 2 yards more carry, and he was getting a little more carry than that, then the new version might be ever so slightly hotter on the face and result in perhaps a couple or a few more yards, on a 6 iron. The difference would probably be even less on a 7,8,9iron, etc. But even if there is just a small gain, that’s still not a bad thing.

Just hit the 699V2 Pros last week and loved them. I've been playing Cleveland HiBore for 10 years and thought it would be hard and they were easy to hit and felt great.

Very excited to see this, as I am about to go for a fitting with Sub70 in mid-March. I love the look of the original 699 clubs, and nothing I've seen here has altered my preference. Especially as I need a little help with launch, so the old-school 31degree 7 iron would be better for me than the newer 30 degree 7 iron. Great review, and lovely to see the focus on feel and looks as well as the numbers from the GC machine. Thanks!

@@TrumpsEarBandageso this was over a year ago, in Spring 2023. The fitting itself was fantastic. Essentially a 2.5hr lesson. I ended up getting fitted into the 699ProV2 irons and the JB wedges. I went to Sub-70 in Hereford, England - which is a couple of hours from where I live. A year on, I can safely say that these are the best feeling and best looking clubs I've ever owned. I'm a convert, and now also a preacher! They are really forgiving, and also give lots of feedback through "feel", so you know when you've nailed one from the sweet spot and when / how you've struck one off centre. Several friends of mine have since gone for a Sub70 fitting and made a purchase too. I cannot recommend the product and the service highly enough.

Thanks for the link, AJ. I've been the hobbiest clubmaker for about 20 years.....mostly to be able to afford my sick obsession with trying what I felt were unique or innovative club head designs. Back when I was less of a golf snob, the only thing I cared about was whether the design helped me hit the ball better, and the component company, Hireko, in some ways was ahead of it's time with coming up with such designs. They seem to have gotten away from forgings and stick with castings, but especially a few years back, you could build a set for a fraction of even today's popular DTC brands. Anyway, I digress. The end result is a golf room with clubs everywhere, and in hindsight, l feel that I should have invested in the best shafts and grips for me AND put these fittings on them, and then when I get that inevitable wild hair up my ass and feel I have to try new heads, then I only buy the heads, then put fittings like these on those, thus saving myself from duplicating unnecessary costs by foregoing having to buy new grips, shafts and ferrules each time. In addition, when I do a set for friends and family, I could have the luxury of having a few extra shafts with fittings around to have a mini-setup like you. For me, it was never intended to be more than a hobby, so having a wall full of shafts would be pretty stupid. As many clubs lying around as I have despite being only the hobbiest, I bet you as a professional have way more. I am curious if you think these fittings would still work as everyday clubs, or do you think they only really work for fitting purposes? I can see why the bulky nut would be a bit off-putting, especially compared to the sexy ferrules you use, but if that is the only real issue, I could get over that if I could forego the cost of a shaft and grip every time I just couldn't help myself to try something new.

I have really liked them. Had a few initial fail issues where I was trying to use minimal amounts of epoxy, but I have tweaked my technique especially with the shaft connecter part that seems to be holding well. Most important thing for me besides the ease of use is that the club weight isn't compromised with these adapters. Worst part is just having to drill out the hosels, which is still time consuming.

I just ordered Sub 70 699 Pro originals. I just like how they looked better than the v2. I had previously ordered the Takomo 101t but after waiting a long time I finally just cancelled the order. They do refund me right away, which slowed me to try and order these. Would’ve been nice if you had the 699 Pro original to match up. Maybe I’ll add in a review after I get them.

@@michaelsnakebite4707 Takomo has less offset and higher lofts when matching against similar Sub 70. What I ended up doing with my 659 MBs was adding a little loft across the set to both give more traditional lofts (which I prefer) and reduce the offset a little.

Can you do some video on why most companies are going "stronger"? Also, my current P is at 46 and 5 is at 25. If I buy a set with P at 44 (and let's say 5 is at 23), would you adjust wedge lofts (and also hybrid loft) or just make the iron new set weak? This has been one of the main reasons I stay with the old iron set.
@EFG2
@EFG2 Жыл бұрын
Just comes down to the gapping both between irons and transitioning from irons into wedges or hybrids. I think getting everything bent 1 degree weaker is never a bad idea.

Impressive distance out of pitching wedges AJ. What club were you actually hitting? You NEVER said, never showed the club number. Also would help to know your swing speed to determine smash factor or it could have been displayed in your data set. It is helpful to find out there is very little difference between the performance of Sub 70 club heads. I have been trying to decide between Sub 70 and Takomo so this pushed me toward Takomo a bit.
