I've never head such an off-touch take in suggesting that this game wasn't successful in that it only ranked 4th on the Wii top games list when it came at a close 2nd to the number of copies sold to the original DS (still selling over 30 million copies, which is nothing to overlook). I also have no idea what you mean when you mentioned no one talks about this game. Even in 2023, I still hear people mention how they used to play this game with their friends/family and had good memories of it.

I played this game casually with my dad as a kid, and because of the hint videos in Peach’s castle, we actually found a lot of secret exits. I remember we beat the game without completing World 3, playing 6-6, or even unlocking World 4. This made it really fun to go back and find tons of new levels I hadn’t seen on my first play through. Great retrospective btw. It honestly baffles me that this channel doesn’t have more subs since the content is consistently high-quality and very fun to watch!

good video. This game was still very enjoyable. But it set up the disappointments I will feel for New Super Mario Bros U and New Super Mario Bros 2.

I still think New Super Mario Bros 2 is better because it has more personality than this one and its level design is more engaging because of the lack of four player multiplayer. I can’t say the same for NSMBU unfortunately however the Deluxe version of that game is a kinder experience as it allows people to play as whatever character they like in single player.

i am so sorry about this hydrogen bomb of a comment Everyone I've seen talk about this game has the same conclusion, and it baffles me. It was my first mario bros game, and I couldn't touch another afterwards, because they're all so weirdly different from it. While other games may have technically been more unique and interesting, it feels distracting, but what this game has feels like home, and that's symbolic of why I feel strange about talking about it like it's purely a video game and not a social phenomenon in and of itself. It's not Mario. It's baby's first Mario. It's baby's first attempted murder, baby's first taste of the cruelty enabled by total power, baby's first taste of learning how to speedrun. It's bland in the way Earth kinda is, like, you live here, of course it's not gonna be too crazy, right? The idea everyone else is just...beating the game and moving on, like that's how it's really meant to be played (even though it totally is) is CRAZY to me too. Like, we weren't all playing through worlds 1,2,3 and 5 exclusively over and over for years, memorising everything and teaching others how to play games with it? No wonder it's blah!! Come back when you've thrown your 20th obnoxious 7yo into the abyss or watched everyone die in a level then became their salvation with a hundred coins...tch. I really like this video and do understand the conclusions perfectly, and so anything seriously mad sounding here is in jest though lmao. I just also happen to genuinely think that the best version of this game is not the version you finish and expect to want to beat again, but the version you experience as either a carer or assimilated part of a wild flock of small kids who have about two hours collectively to make their weekly attempts, just hammering at the easy levels and treating them like a playground, where the multiplayer is THE feature and everything else exists to serve it.

TLDR i think this game is like white rice. You can think its bland, and honestly it kinda is. Most people prefer it with other more interesting flavours. But leave out some rice after a storm and a swarm of little autistic bitches will swoop in specifically looking for that blandness. Not Long Enough, Tell Me More: That also reminds me, another reason for loving this game specifically is that when you're playing with folks with certain disabilities, getting them to understand complex mechanics like those you find in other games can be damn near impossible. This is possibly the best Mario bros in this regard, it's VERY visually clear, you can be a guiding hand directly with the multiplayer, and the early stages in particular provide a gentle kind of learning ground you genuinely just don't find elsewhere, like I always find myself having to manually teach things to my sibling in other Mario games (odyssey was....sigh ...) but very rarely if ever here. NSMB U from what I've seen does this too, but I'll always recommend this one first. sorry. im normal about this i promise. there's just stuff that's so memorable about this one that is completely severed from the most common or expected game experience and i wanna TALK ABOU T ITTTTTT

Newer wii and ds are better than the official games and feel unique like Mario bros 1-3 + world did. Each of the classic Mario bros games added something new. Mario bros 1 introduced us to it. Mario bros 2 added new mechanics and enemy’s like shy guys and pokeys. Granted it’s a doki doki panic reskin and mario bros 3 which added new power ups themes item inventory and world map. World added secret exits an interconnected world new ghost house and forest themes and yoshi. While the new games just repeat things without pushing the series forward thankful wonder got us covered. Newer games have unique world themes bosses ds though had original bosses and the hammer suit. Also new music.

the mario wiki lists mario's species as "homo nintendous" but refuses to put luigi his brother's species as the same and just lists him as a "human" therefore i dont trust the mario wiki
