I’m curious is you’ve even spoken w/oem engineers or club designers about the ‘high toe’ designs. I recall Karsten Solheim being first I saw to do this with his Ping Eye irons. Others have of course dabbled in this same area. I could certainly see it help square the face for high handicap players, essentially balancing the mass from hosel. I just think the same could be accomplished w/tungsten at back of club or drilled and plugged into sole. I’ve certainly added lead tape to wedges in past, albeit centered at back of blade, mostly for feel and swingweight but I have noticed it can make noticeable improvement in ball performance, both launch and spin. The point being, the mass added at high toe creates an unpleasant look at address for many of us, especially those that play forged blades with thin top lines. It just seems there’s more effective ways to accomplish same benefit without making the toe so thick & bulky

Lots of folks saying the rust doesn't increase spin. I rusted up my tm 3's in a h202, vinegar and salt solution and they look like they were on the Titanic. I'm spinning the ball more than I ever have before. Off real grass and hitting onto a real green. No mats. I've also gained more confidence knowing if I hit it a little far the ball will stop on a dime.

Zero evidence rust improves spin. Boomer, but good for your delusion.

Michael Newton Golf 18 hours ago It’s not so much the rusting that provides extra spin. It’s that fact when they leave the face raw then it keeps the precise milling and sharp edge of the grooves as plating creates a slightly more rounded finish 👍

I always thought rust could actually reduce spin as it can be powdery and act as a dry lube such as graphite. I do love my Cleveland Rtx full face wedges in back finish which I believe is thinner than chrome. I'm just glad golf manufacture's are starting to produce more of them. Cudos to Michael, great video. I watch them all.

Interesting video as always. I have the Big Foot version in 60deg. I would have been interested to know your views on how the new wedge performs out of bunkers as I find the Big Foot hard to open up the club face.

Always check your new club videos first. Straight to the point and no manufacturer selling fluff. I bought the previous model just a few months ago and only limited use :( and grooves are good. So, enough difference in v3 to make the change now or just wait until new ones needed? Thanks again for the great videos, clubs AND swing help!! Brent

Taylormade hi toe wedges are excellent I think the feel is better than the milled grind 3 wedges

I got 50, 54 in MG3 and a 58 in Hi Toe. The Hi Toe did feel better. But the MG3 were the best feeling out of Vokeys and callaway jaws for me.

Crazy they stopped making 64 in this I had to find a used one for basically the same price as a new 😂 (my wedge shots are low even with 60’s)

Bit off topic But how much do you think a shaft in a iron can decrease spin ? I tend to spin my irons ALOT, due to setting my wrist very late, and hitting down 5-6 Im currently playing Nippon 105 X-flex, and i spin them ALOT. Costing me distance I know i should probely try and work on my swing, but honestly cant be bothered to change it yet again Can you take off a decent amount of spin with the right shaft ?
@MichaelNewtonGolf2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your spin loft is too high (difference between angle of attack & dynamic loft) the bigger the difference the more spin you’ll generate. Changing loft can have a bigger influence on spin, maybe look at making the lofts stronger. Shafts can have an impact too
@akselnielsen42312 жыл бұрын
@@MichaelNewtonGolf 7 iron is about 20 degree with attack angle of 5-6 Currently use srixon zx7 with Nippon 105-xflex Swing speed is about 92-94 with 7 iron So was maybe wondering, if i could be overpowering the shafts ?

I love the look of raw finish clubs, but I just can’t believe natural and unpredictable rusting of a face is better for my spin rates than precision machine cut grooves, surely it creates inconsistencies? Even if I can get 11,000rpm out of a rusty face, it may well drop unexpectedly, where as pure grooves will stay around that 10,000 mark without too much deviation. Idk my Mizuno wedges are gonna cover me for a couple years more.

@@MichaelNewtonGolf thank you for clearing that up. I think a few people are under the same impression as myself, great content as always ✨

@@xXcharliegoonerXx just my 2 cents but I just rusted up my tm 3's using the "magic" solution and they definitely spin more. The ball is stopping on a dime on the green. It also gives me more confidence so there's also a placebo effect. I would get satin over gunmetal however. The gunmetal didn't rust up as nicely.

It’s more the fact it’s not plated which allows them to maintain the sharpest edges to the grooves
