That is a fantastic new teacher gift! My mentor teacher did something similar for me during student teaching. She got my kiddos involved with my gift. She had them brainstorm with their parents on what they thought a new teacher might need and I ended up with tons of pencils, glue sticks, my favorite white out, pencil cap erasers, post-it notes, sharpies, and so much other stuff. They gave it to me in a flower pot and some of the kids brought me little trinkets to put on my desk. I am saving it all for whenever I do get a classroom. I love that you got your student teacher a laminator and a label maker!! Those are invaluable tools. I have been using those items as I create stuff to put in my portfolio.
