I’m a hammock/tarp guy, but learning a TON just 1/3 into this video. Stuff that will come in handy when I start sewing more gear. Thanks for not hacking a bunch of tiny segments together and skipping steps. So many DIY videos lose me quickly.

Great to hear it is useful and yes tiny segment put together was tedious...then again good time to pass quarantine

Thanks for sharing. I noticed on the parallel stitches (reinforcing stitches), you go back and forth, left to right. This creates tension in the fabric, resulting in wrinkles. If you stitch in one direction only, the result is smoother and have less wear. A bit more work but worth doing.

Great video!!! Your machine should have a backstichinh lever or button, do you don’t need to reverse all the fabric at the beggining reinforcement of every stitching.
@markomm5571
@markomm5571 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, thanks for the comment, but with this sil material back stitching sometimes pulls material in. Few times got chewed up so I prefer to just move and go forward. It also maybe there was an issue with my machine , maybe others do better

Should be in description , but basically ripstopbytheroll.com , they ship world wide. You can also check out others like yamamountain or hillaberg , sometimes they sell leftover fabrics

does your reverse stitch button not work? i keep seeing you spin it around to back stitch.
@markomm5571
@markomm5571 4 жыл бұрын
Ha it does but its the damn silpoly, relatively thin and very very slippery and if you do back stitch close to the edge or the corner it pulls it in and gets machine stuck. I found if you in the middle of a seam and hold it or use another material like thicker reinforcing materials it is fine but this silpoly is tricky
@treksandpreps
@treksandpreps 3 жыл бұрын
what material were you using for the reinforcement material?
@markomm5571
@markomm5571 3 жыл бұрын
For the top where poles go as well as corners of doors I used thick material like cordura, not sure which , maybe 500. Honestly a bit overkill on the door corner. For the tent corners it was same as floor material, which I believe was 30D silnylon.

Very cool video, I was wondering, why do you cat cut fabric? Is it mainly for aesthetic or weight? Or is there some kind of strength benefit, thanks!

This is awesome! What are your thoughts on making a tent in a way that has the poles at head / feet instead of sides. Might be harder to get in and out but for tall people might result in more space.
@markomm5571
@markomm5571 3 жыл бұрын
you mean kind of staggered, one side close to feet and one pole on head area? I think there is one company that makes them... i can't remember the name. But if it works why not, be interested how stresses distributed
@OutdoorPrep
@OutdoorPrep 3 жыл бұрын
@@markomm5571 I meant the pole being at head/foot-ends. Found one that's called "The Yama Cirriform"

@@OutdoorPrep Oh i see, I was thinking kind of staggered like their Swiftline tent. Anyways, no that's a good idea especially for a one person tent. Would def be much lighter. I made this as I needed space for 2 ppl and gear. There is a post in myog reddit group recently making the tent you talking about

@@OutdoorPrep this one www.reddit.com/r/myog/comments/mye6g6/minitentbivvy_hybrid_final_i_promise/. which is like one person cirriform but can be opened from 3 directions, head, foot, and my favourite - side for easy access

is there a dimensioned drawing of the parts available? or even just a list of the parts and their dimensions? Also, I don't want to sign up for another thing, so a Sketchup drawing does me no good.
