Ok, I tested this and it will work. For this to work you cant have a password on the iPad which kinda sucks but it's the trade-off unless you want to put in the password or Touch id or whatever every time you go to use the car. 1. Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock > Never 2. Go to the Shortcuts app 3. Go to automation (at the bottom) 4. Select "Create Personal Automation" 5. Scroll down to "Charger" and click on it 6. Make sure "Is Connected" is the only one with a check 7. Click "next" 8. Add action 9. Search "Set Low Power Mode" and select it 10. Set it to "Turn Low Power Mode Off" 11. Add action 12. Search "Open App" and select it 13. Select the "EV Controls dash" app 14. Click "next" 15. Turn off "Ask Before Running" 16. Click "done" 17. Click the + in the top right 18. Select "Create Personal Automation" 19. Scroll down to "Charger" and click on it 20. Make sure "Is Disconnected" is the only one with a check 21. Add action 22. Search "Set Low Power Mode" and select it 23. Set it to "Turn Low Power Mode On" 24. Add action 25. Search "Open App" and select it 26. Select the "Clock" app (can be any app that closes when not touched but clock doesn't take much power at all) 27. Click "next" 28. Turn off "Ask Before Running" 29. Click "done" Now any time you turn on the car which means the iPad is now getting power, the car will open the EV Controls dash app, and by pre-setting the Auto-Lock to never just means the iPad will never lock as long as you are not on Low Power Mode (which sets Auto-Lock to 30 seconds and it goes back to never when it's off). When the car is turned off, Low Power Mode turns on causing your Auto-Lock to become 30 seconds (as I mentioned above), and switching to the clock app will allow the iPad screen to turn off in 30 seconds (I'm assuming that the EV Controls dash app won't turn off ever for safety reasons). If you have any questions just reply to this comment or message me on Instagram @numannakkash if you need personal help.

You are right, head units are only android. Maybe EV Controls will come out with an Android app. You could use a AEM digital display though.
@ajzride3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricSuperCar Apple does not make a head unit, and installing a tablet full time in a car is not as easy as it should be. I would reach out to EV Controls and see if an Android app is imminent. If it is, then an Android head unit will be the way to go. If not then you have to start looking at how to mount the ipad in the car. There are ways to make it sleep/wake with the power and automatically open the app. Used all the time for kiosks and other commercial applications of iPads.

It'd be so cool if a fully programmable controller interface was available. Like, imagine if they just published the API that the app uses to communicate with the vehicle. You could set up a fully custom digital dash, potentially adding all kinds of cool stuff. It'd make it possible to not only DIY the hardware, but the software as well. I'm imagining a few analogue dial needles for the important, constantly updated data like speed and RPM, on top of a big frontlit e-ink display for all the more verbose data and other info that you don't always want on-screen. Heck, you could set up custom security measures, like setting up 2FA for starting the car, where it migh require both a password and biometrics to start. Suddenly, your car doesn't even need a physical key... *you* are the key.
