|ABOUT|
I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

For me, 2-2.5 times yarn for italian bind off is usually enough!

Yay for Canadian yarns.mother old Buffalo yarn was also 5or6 strands and was used in full for the buffalo knit Cowichan knit traditional sweaters

Thanks! Another commenter mentioned this. It’s been fun to look up these knits 😊

You can always spit splice additional yarn for your Italian bind off, so I would try the 2 or 2.5 times length and see if you need to add more.

Hai! I have some vintage WhiteBuffalo yarn and it’s 6 strands, which totally threw me at first because I had not knit anything at the time I bought it. Traditionally (at least on the west coast of Canada) it’s used to make Cowichan Sweaters and we used yarn from the (now extinct) Salish Wolly Dog. I say we because I’m Kwakwak’wakw which is just a little north of Cowichan & we share a lot of similarities. Love your channel!! I’m knitting a Darjeeling Cardigan by Knitting for Olive as I binge watch your videos ❤

It has been really cool to learn about Cowichan Sweaters and about this yarn. I'll have to look up that dog, thanks! That cardigan looks lovely!

Hi focus on what you can do, take a deep breath and slow down. enjoy your house move, write a list and check off each thing you do. your baby sweater looks like it will be plenty big. all the best.

I am excited for your series on using knitting as healing! I find just giving myself some grace to help with the productivity helps me. Knowing that I am just a person and life changes and flows and I give myself the grace to just be. I also wanted to comment on the Country Roving - its meant for the Cowichan Sweaters. They are made with 5 strands of bulky and Briggs and Little make it (along with Custom Woolen Mills in Alberta) in place of Buffalo Wool yarn which isn’t made anymore!

Just thought I would let you know about a couple podcasters using that Country Roving. Nancy from Knit Sip Happy and Sophie from Cozy Meadow Knits separated their yarns into 5 different balls.

Check out Ailbiona’s or Miss Evil’s patterns. They use Nutiden a lot. I hear you about pressure to knit all the things. But I have realized that the pressure takes away the joy and peacefulness.

You can add more yarn in an Italian bind off. I know knitting for olive has video and while it is in Danish it really is very easy! You just do the set up again from memory.

If only we could mash our hibernated projects together! I have two cabled sweater sleeves hiding in the closet until I have time for the body after Christmas gifts.

Re knitting baby knits for a future baby: I don’t think it would work for clothing because you don’t yet know what size they would need in what season until you know when you’re due. Blankets and toys though would be a great project to put away for a future baby :) Re other places to knit- I knit stockinette projects on a stationary bike sometimes. It’s a great way to distract myself from the exercise, ha ha.

This is a great point, thank you! Does the yarn not get caught in your bike??
@natashaonis
@natashaonis Жыл бұрын
@@kuriaknits not really- I put my yarn in a bag and hang the bag on a handle bar. The workings of the bike are fully enclosed so there’s nothing for the yarn to get caught on.

The baby sweater looks amazing and the sizing looks right 👌🏼 I haven’t knit a sweater for my daughter in a while and now I’m itching to. I’ll checkout the pattern you used, looks on point!

I stressed myself out last year with gift knitting so much that I made the decision to do none this year! I am knitting for my daughters, but not for Christmas. It ruined December for me really, all the pressure to finish in time aged me!! I am loving having no pressure on me this year. Considering you are moving house as well, I think you definitely have taken on way too much! Go gently is my advice. Another great podcast 🧶❤️

I have a yarn that twists exactly like the Drops Andes you used for the Sunday cardigan and it drives me nuts!!! It's a 100% wool aran weight pink tweed Cloudborn (RIP) yarn that I bought in BULK because it was on a closeout sale on WEBS. Now idk what to make with it because the twist is so weird! I might end up making the cardigan you made because the pattern might distract from the twist of the yarn. It makes the stitches look really uneven and like you said, amateur :(

I think something with a stitch pattern really helps! Glad (but also not glad haha) I am not the only one having this problem.
