|ABOUT|
I live and knit in Southern Ontario with my husband and my terrier. The name kuriaknits comes from my last name - Kurian. Kurian has Indian and Syrian origins and I feel lucky every day that my husband shared it with me.

Hiya, I had Stage 4 Endometriosis and I couldn't fault my hospital, Liverpool Women's UK. I'm 10 years post operations and my life has been saved in more ways than one. There is no pain like it and I asked rather a lot of my hot water bottles and painkillers. Rest, care from your loved ones and shout as loudly as you need to in order for the medical profession to listen. Keep a pain & period diary too as it's very effective when explaining to doctors. If you ever need to talk to someone about it we're mostly a great bunch worldwide but if you're in the UK and need to chat/rant/scream, feel free to email. Been there, done that, knitted the t-shirt. You're not alone x

There’s something about the way you share from your life that I love and appreciate so much. I never thought of the vulnerability of having to apply for grants and “big up yourself”, feeling like you are putting on airs. I love hearing what it was like for somebody to come to you as an expert. Your self doubt is so relatable, and your joy as you grow into yourself is beautiful. The way you share from all parts of your experience makes your wins so much more impactful than if you just presented the glossy side of life. Also, here’s to washing machines that work well! ❤

Hi Erin, thank you for another video. Love the all natural look! You are beautiful the way you are :-) I always enjoy your company while knitting. I also do a lot of 'knitting through' stress, mental difficulties and waiting out monthly crises. I hear and understand all the things you speak about. I have my own version of all the themes. Including the 'pretending' and 'not believing you are good enough' theme. You are not alone in all this, and I wish you find good help for the period pains, soon!

It's nice to see you again! Please take all the time you need between episodes. Mental health is so important and it can be a challenge to enjoy joyful moments when our brains aren't cooperating. Between the xmas cardigan nonchalant decision making and the spaghetti sauce incident, your husband's knitworthiness is not proving itself to me ^^; I'm sure he's a lovely guy otherwise... Your knits are always an inspiration for me, thanks for sharing :)

Hi Erin. I suffered with endometriosis for 25 years before I found a doctor who could diagnose it. I know how painful and stressful the symptoms are and I really feel for you. Your idea of seeing a doctor in England makes sense. The sooner you get diagnosed, the better for your overall health. Best of luck to you!

I'm just a minute into the video but please let me tell you: your skin is beautiful! It has such a natural glow, it's like a natural 'glass skin' (kpop beauty trend), so please don't ever apologize for it! ❤

You are so sweet and amazing, I always enjoy your positive spirit 😊Thank you for sharing your struggles, it helps me feel I'm in good company, since my brain is broken much of the time, too! I find myself at my lowest here at the tail end of winter, so yes, we have to remind ourselves that spring is on its way! Praying for the best for you as you cope with all the pressures - your beautiful, clear spirit will prevail! ❤

It is amazing you are suffering with depression and physical pain and still so together and gracious. I had hormonal migraines that knocked me flat 2-3 days a month since grade 10, all my adult life basically. No medical help but to suck it up:(. Really wishing you well and that you can find some help:). Enjoy your knits, greetings from the west coast 🇨🇦.

I loved every minute of this video! I had so many thoughts I had to take notes. :-P *I was excited when I saw you posted a new video because I feel like I've missed hanging out with you. *There's no need to ask anyone to excuse your naked face. I think you are beautiful, and I appreciate your willingness to be genuine. *You are clearly a much more forgiving human being than I am. If my husband got spaghetti sauce on a handknit sweater, then got a hole in it, I might need someone to help me bury his body! *Dog cameos are always welcome; encouraged, even. *Homeownership is a blessing and a privilege, but it can definitely be stressful. The recently-burst pipe in my garage and I feel you. *A new cast on is a wonderful form of self care. *Thank you for mentioning your difficulty with women's health, and for doing so without any hint of embarrassment. Not enough people talk about this. I'm so sorry you are suffering. *Thanks for the shout out. The online knitting community is full of good vibes, and I can't get enough of it. I'm eager to pass on good vibes however I can; giving an extra skein of yarn to someone who can put it to good use is the least I can do. *Hugs to you, and many wishes for the hard times to pass quickly.

erin! if you're still debating what to make with the shibui yarn i would suggest the hiesu sweater by veera valimaki of rain knitwear designs! it's a beautifully textured short sleeve sweater knit at a dk weight and the size large only takes 820 yds! i haven't knit it yet but it's high on my list, i really want to make one for the spring with cascade 220 superwash, and i think it would be beautiful in that deep shibui gold! a lento would also be gorgeous in it too though, it's such stunning yarn, whatever you choose to make will turn out lovely!

Chronic illness is a very difficult situation to deal with and our mental health takes a major hit along with it. Be patient and kind with yourself, stressing will only exacerbate everything else.

Sending you virtual hugs ☺️😘....on top of house woes and health concerns it certainly doesn't help that we've had so many grey, dreary days in Ontario. I know I struggle with this. This time of year I start yearning for Spring. As for health care...I remember my doctor saying during covid that he worries about how many people weren't getting diagnosed until post-covid...and now I think one of the repercussions is also this delay in getting care. I've had the thought that it would be interesting to peek into history books 50 years from now to read about this extraordinary few years that we've experienced. As for your sweater....lol, I'd gift that one to your husband and get him to donate to you to knit a new one for yourself 😁.

Hugs!! Welcome to homeownership, it’s wonderful but will always have its challenges. Regarding your pain, I’m 55 and had severe pain every month since age 11 and would “miss” an entire day of my life every month. The “good” news is, I later learned that labor pains weren’t painful in comparison. Also taking an anti inflammatory medication (Advil or Motrin) for two days BEFORE your cycle begins, prevents the pain from even starting! Sending you love

I'm sorry you're going through such a hard time! Thank you for sharing and being vulnerable. This year hasn't started off the way I hoped either; my health is also causing issues and my brain isn't wanting to cooperate with other life things. I'm so glad we have this community so we can all feel less alone in our struggles.

GM I am from Kingsville ON and just wondering where you order your yarn ? Not to many shops here and shipping is almost about the price of a ball of wool Have you ever order from Hobbi? I love your podcasts and beautiful work you do Unfortunately our health care is horrible Been waiting 5 yrs to see back specialist 5 yrs for my colonoscopy We are not a priority it feels !!! You take care of yourself Please 🤗🙏🙏💝

I think Kingsville is where Shall We Knit is moving to! I would check there. I have tried Hobbii once. They arrived pretty fast but I don't think I ordered well. I have ordered from Knit Picks a few times and generally like their stuff - free shipping over $75USD I think. I mostly shop in person but if I do online, I usually save up to get the free shipping.

You don't have to excuse yourself for a normal face! Haven't you said anything, I wouldn't have noticed (meaning, it's just a face). Whatever you wear on your face it is for you, not for others, and if anyody can't appreciate the makeup, or the lack of it, they can yarn off!
