Top shelf Josh mate! No padding, no product promotions; just 6mins of pure facts covering the bases for beginners. Your channel is fast becoming one of the very best Australian adventure channels mate ... I hope to see those sub number rising in the future. Also for people who can't find friends to hike with, there are a few clubs around Australia as well, especially near the major capitals in each state. They are very welcoming and a great way to meet new people with similar interests. They are also a great resource for buying good second-hand gear once you get the know the peeps. So don't let your wussy friends who won't go camping with you hold you back :) Life is too short, and there's way too much awesome stuff to experience.

OMG yours is the first hiking video ever to warn of Roo's jacking up your trip - wtf I think a hangry roo might be worse than happy california bear. It'd be like some dude came out and took your food and if you try to stop it you get your ass kicked. I don't know how you deal with that kind of nonsense. Well that and some spiders and snakes that could probably walk off with your pack on theirs. Cheers and best of luck
@JoshCarrHikes
@JoshCarrHikes 2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not a common occurrence that you'll come across roos nibbling at your snacks in the middle of the night 😂 I'd imagine it's just been overly domesticated through people feeding it. I'll take spiders, snakes and roos any day of the week over bears & mountain lions!

Great vid - thanks. It's funny, I've done a few multi-day hikes in Nepal but they were all "teahouse treks" - you stay in lodges and don't have to carry much besides clothing and bedding. So despite having actually hiked in the Himalayas, I've been intimidated for ages by the logistics of overnight hiking in Australia! This is really helpful info and makes it seem achievable (once I get my fitness back a bit) - so, thanks again :)
@JoshCarrHikes
@JoshCarrHikes 3 жыл бұрын
That’s my dream to do treks over there, so jealous! It’s straight forward once you’ve got a couple nights under your belt, all becomes second nature pretty quick. Glad it helped, cheers Chris!

Hi Chris - how fabulous is Nepal! Like you, I've been fortunate enough spend time there, where I've done several month-long expeditions. We did have porters and Sherpas and sometimes stayed in teahouses, but it was certainly a lot of effort - almost no flat ground! I hope you've managed to get out and do some overnights here in Oz. We are big campers and our kids sometimes overnight camp in the back yard. We'll be doing some overnight hiking and kayaking in the next school holidays in a few weeks. Hope to see you out on the trail! Cheers from Sydney - Dave

We went with a mate that had done overnights when we did our first overnighter. Definitely different to the years of normal camping we'd done prior!! The hardest part was carrying lots of water in addition to our camp gear because it was really hot weather! Definitely easier coming back with the less weight to carry! Great list! The roo stealing your food reminds me of a monster possum that terrorised us trying to get into the tent one night!
@JoshCarrHikes
@JoshCarrHikes 3 жыл бұрын
Water is always the killer! Quickly starts to add up if you go through a dry section & need to carry for two days or more. Haha I’ve heard possums can be pretty nosey. Hoping to avoid that experience as long as I can 😂

Sooo, the original edit for this one was nearly 15 minutes before I decided to cut some fluff and strip it back to bare basics. Hopefully there was still enough value for you as it was a pretty short vid by my standards - Feedback come at me! I was also planning to head to QLD for my next multiday hike but alas COVID had some different ideas. If you've got any suggestions for a pearler multiday hike in NSW, VIC or SA I'm all ears.

Really great vid and just the right amount of information to be digested quickly. Would you consider doing a vid focusing on personal safety equipment at all? I have never used a location beacon or GPS tracking except Google maps and often walk on my own, so I probably should start to consider one but don’t know where to start. I usually just refer to my phone if I can get a signal, or an old fashioned map and compass if I can’t.
@JoshCarrHikes
@JoshCarrHikes 3 жыл бұрын
That might be something I’ll consider in the future but not at this stage. There’s nothing hard about using a plb at all. Just have to register it and know which button to press. The peace of mind you get from carrying it is well worth it

@JoshCarrHikes
