I do not use X enough for the simple reason that it turns into a 50 50 situation if I cannot get up fast enough. I like that detail of sitting up to the side. Maybe that’s where I’m going wrong.

Do you use butterfly just to sweep and get a better position? Or do you have a specific submission that u like to use from butterfly? I’m just starting to play around with it but I only really use it to sweep. That seems to be the focus on most butterfly videos. Any good tricky submissions from there?

Just been learning X-Guard today in no Gi and struggled with it. This was really useful. Can you go into a leg lock if you sweep your partner backwards? Instead of driving through by standing?

Where did jusitsu originate?

Shawn Jones Japan. It was created by the samurai for unarmed combat. Kept secret among them and the upper class until the 19th century. There was a small student named Kano Jigoro who learned Jiu-Jitsu and adopted more leverage and armdrag techniques and named the system judo. One of Kanos students was named Mitsuyo Maeda who traveled the world doing exhibitions of the art. That's until he landed in Brazil where he met Gatao Gracie. Gastao was a wealthy man and politician with a trouble maker son named Carlos Gracie. In exchange for helping Maeda establish a Japanese settlement he asked him to teach his son Judo. When one of the younger Gracie boys named Helio Gracie found a lot of take downs didn't need to be a refined and instead focused on superior ground techniques BJJ was born. Really the Gracie's take credit for BJJ but it would be silly to say the entire art came from them. The origins are hundreds of years old and from all over the world. Even know Americans continue to add and deversify.
